Hello, everyone! I'm a student in Class 1, Grade 8. 

Raheel is a good child and likes to help others and care about the old. The only problem is that he is often late. 

One day, one of Raheel's  (neighbor) told him there would be a singing competition in their neighborhood. Raheel wanted to join it after hearing the news.  his surprise, he got selected (被选中). He was so excited about the competition. 

On the day of the competition, Raheel was so happy. He had a good breakfast and took a shower. He looked so confident (自信的). When everything was ready, Raheel had  look at the clock. It was just 7:30 a. m. The competition started at 9:30 a. m. So Raheel decided to play games on his phone to make  (he) relaxed. His mother asked him to leave for the competition while he  (play) games happily. He said he would play for five more minutes. However, Raheel lost himself in the games and he (complete) forgot the time. When Raheel's mother asked him to go again, Raheel  (notice) that it was already 8:30 a. m. He ran to catch the bus, but sadly he still arrived late for the competition. The security staff (安保人员) didn't allow Raheel  (get) in because all the singers had to come 15 minutes before the competition started. Raheel broke the rule.

Walt Disney: Turning His Hobby into Magic

Some people turn their hobbies into their jobs. Walt Disney is one of them. Walt's journey began with a simple  (梦想). He had a lot of fun paintings and wanted to share his paintings with other people. This childhood hobby became his job later. The journey wasn't easy, but he always  (期盼；等待) for the best. During World War II, Disney met a big problem. Fewer people went to the movies because they didn't have enough money for tickets. The situation  (听起来) difficult but Disney never stopped fighting. 

Over the years, Disney created many interesting characters  (满足) different people's needs. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy won many people's hearts. His love for animals and wild adventures brought these stories to life and gave happiness to others. 

Disneyland has been a magical place for people around the world  (自……以来) 

1955. At first, people called it "an  (不可能的) project" because they thought it was only for kids. To their surprise,  (没有一人) of them felt bored after having fun in it. He became one of the most famous cartoon  (艺术家) at that time. 

He was  (感到自豪的) of himself because he turned simple drawings into magic. "I do not make films for children, " he said, "I make them for the child in all of us. " He is a  (英雄) in the world of cartoons. 

Last month, I joined a school speech competition. At first, I was a little afraid—my speech skills were far from good, and I always  words during practice. 

My teacher reminded me to  the message rather than just words. "Speak like you're talking to a friend, " she said.  the practice, I recorded myself and solved the problems. Slowly, I felt better. When I was  standing on the stage, I took a deep breath and started. Surprisingly, the words came smoothly. 

That experience taught me the real  of speech: It's not just about speaking well, but connecting with others. Now, I no longer fear public speaking. Every time I stand up to talk, I remember that progress comes from trying. 

Have you ever seen the sun go dark in the middle of the day? About every eighteen months, the moon completely covers the sun somewhere on the earth. This amazing phenomenon (现象) in the sky is called the total solar eclipse. 

If you are a sky lover, how can you have a great eclipse-watching experience? First, you can check local news or visit https://science. nasa. gov/eclipses/ to find out when and where an eclipse will start. Next, find a place where it is not cloudy. If needed, you may also travel to other places. More importantly, you must prepare a pair of eclipse glasses. They are paper glasses made with silver (银制的) eye pieces that are very dark. They will protect you from the harmful sunlight. 

Here are some tips for a great eclipse-watching experience. Keep your eclipse glasses on whenever you can see the sun. When the moon completely covers the sun, it's okay to take off the glasses. But when the sun is going to appear again, put the glasses back on. If you want to take photos of an eclipse, you must use a solar filter (太阳滤光器) for your camera. Don't use your phone because it may stop working. 

Eclipse-watching not only is exciting but also helps us learn more about the sun, the moon and the earth. 

It's not easy growing up. Growing up can be a real "pain" for some of us. We are always doing things that someone else makes us do and aren't allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don't understand why we can't stay young forever. But we should take a look back on all the painful things in life with a positive attitude and we should learn from them. We should realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!

Throughout our lives we are going to face many challenges and pains, but we should never let these difficulties keep us from following our dreams. We must overcome them one small step at a time. 

As a young girl, my parents asked me to do so many things that I didn't like. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music and I also hated them. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I now comprehend that my parents and teachers wanted me to have a better life. 

We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just part of our life. Think about how we would feel if we had no challenges and lived a life like that. Life would be really boring and meaningless. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps on our road to success, we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!

They travel to many hotels. They sleep in the beds, eat the food, and use the swimming pool. They do all this secretly. Their job is to find out if the hotel is good. They help make hotels better for all guests. 

Who are they? They are "hotel sleepers". When people want to find a nice hotel, the reports from these sleepers are very helpful. Thanks to them, hotels can know what is good and what is not. 

Lena is an experienced hotel sleeper. She loves her job and explains, "My job sounds like a fun adventure, but it needs a careful eye. I have a long list of things to check. Is the room clean? Is the pillow (枕头) soft? How fast is the Wi-Fi? I even see if the staff smiles and says hello. I take photos and write notes on my phone. I must be like a normal guest, so I can't tell anyone about my job. After I leave, I write a long report for the hotel company. " 

"It's a job that makes me proud. We help hotels do better, and we help families have happy holidays. I feel good when I know my work makes someone's trip more enjoyable. "
