There are many ways to greet others (其他人).

A Modern Marco Polo's Food Journey in China

Antonio's thought of coming to China was from the story of Italian explorer MarcoPolo(1254-1324) who traveled to the same country over 700 years ago. " When I was a child, I saw The Travels of Marco Polo on TV, " he said, " The beautiful Chinese food completely shocked me and I decided one day I would explore this country myself. "

Now this Italian cook has a restaurant in China. Crazy about Chinese food, Antonio often traveled around China to find new ideas in his early days. Last year, he visited some cities along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal(大运河). "What interested me most was not only the food, but also the people, their kindness, and the customs passed down, " he said. Tai' erzhuang is one of the cities along the GrandCanal Antonio has visited. In this centuries-old water town, he tried the thin and crispy Shandong pancakes with green onions. In the past, the pancakes were made from grains(谷粒) transported through the GrandCanal. The pancakes show the creativity of Shandong people and their cooking skills. 

Recently, Antonio shared stories of the" food journey to the east" on social media. Many people left messages, saying that they were interested in Chinese food and culture. Antonio has realized that many foreigners will fall in love with learning about traditional Chinese culture if it is presented in a way they can understand. Antonio is becoming one of the modern" Marco Polos" who are attracted( 吸引)by amazing Chinese culture and show it to the world. Though Italian and Chinese foods are very different, they share certain similarities, such as the use of noodles, which is a common thread( 线) in both cultures. Antonio said, " Food is a bridgeto bring people together. (A)                                           "

How Technology Helps Emperor Penguins

With the development of science and technology, we have learned a lot about animals. Emperor penguins can grow up to 1.2 meters tall, and they are the  (large) of all the penguin kinds. In 2022, they were listed as endangered animals because the Antarctic sea ice that they live is becoming smaller and smaller. Now scientists are using high technology to follow them and leam more about how  (protect) them. 

One of the      (way) researchers are able to do this is by looking at pictures taken by satellites above the earth. Large groups of emperor penguins can be seen from space. When scientists first started using satellites to look at the penguins,  there were only 28 groups. So  far, scientists (discover)66 groups. 

Even using satellites, it is so difficult to count how many penguins live in different groups. Scientists can improve population estimates(估计) by watching the area's weather(careful). Measuring  the wind speed and temperature can help predict if the penguins gather closely together or spread apart across the ice. If scientists  know  the weather was like when the pictures were taken, they can estimate how many penguins are pictured. 

Scientists can also watch penguins' movements by giving    (they) special electronic tags. Ascanner(carry) by a robot, and it can read information on the tags. The robot also uses AIto recognize the penguins. It moves very slowly so that it doesn't make the birds stressed. 

Daniel, one of the penguin researchers, hopes the technology(lead) us to a"golden age of research". Thanks to technology, we are seeing more things no one has ever seen before.

For Chen Sheng, a young man in Mcitan, Guizhou province, caring for the elderly(年老的) is more than a job—— it is calling in his heart. 

Chen Sheng was raised by his grandparents, and his dream was to take care of more olderly people. After gruduating in2017 with a degree in healthcare, Chen Sheng completed eight months of training in a local hospital and started to work in a nursing home. In his early working days, what he met was more difficult than expected. He got up at 6. am. to help with morning tasks. He provided full bedside care, especially for the elderly, who had to stay in bed all the time. Often, his day didn't end until 11 p. m. He wanted to quit at first, but after a period, the warmth and trust he received from the elderly changed his mind, 

Using his medical knowledge, Chen Sheng takes care of the clderly in a proper way, including physical examining, health guidance, advice on food and so on. "I arrived at the nursing home with lots of illnesses and could only lie on the bed. After two months of good care by Chen Sheng, I was able to walk again by myself. Life here is very convenient from satisfying daily services to good medical care, just like at home, " said Grandpa Li. 

Besides medical care, Chen Sheng also gives emotional(情感的) support. He always offers comfort in time when a grandpa or a grandma is upset. Grandma Sun likes to talk with Chen Sheng very day and always shares the things sho considers valuable. Grandma Sun feels warm and happy because of Chen Sheng. Her family thanks him for his patience and great love. 

As needs for elderly care continue to grow, more and more young people, including those bom after 2000, have come to work in the nursing home. They are making every effort to take good curo of the clderly and make them live a happy life.

How does your teacher make you sit—in rows or in groups? How would you like to sit? Does sitting in rows make you feel good or does it make you feel lonely? Do you feel that sitting in a group and discussing things makes you learn more in an easier way?

In the last 30 years or so, experts on teaching methods have thought about these questions. They felt that sitting in rows was not very useful to children, and that they learnt more easily and better when they sat around a table in a group. That way, they could also learn to get along with others and exchange ideas easily. 

However, it seems they were not quite right. At least Nigel Hastings, professor of Nottingham Trent University, does not think so. He has been researching classroom behavior for the last 20 years in England. His conclusion （结论） is that children work much better when they sit in rows than when they sit around in groups. 

His study found that students wasted a lot of time talking when they were placed in groups. When children were made to sit singly or in pairs and not in groups as they were used to, they were more attentive （专注的） to their work.

Progress means the act of going forward. Making any kind of progress can make us healthy and happy in life. By setting and actively working towards our goals, we can make progress in our life. 

To make more progress in life, start looking at problems in a different way. Whatever happens, if we think positively, it can be useful and helpful. We need to know that problems are part of our life. After we solve problems one after another, we can make more progress and become stronger. 

Having confidence is helpful for us to make progress. Confidence comes for different reasons, such as proper education, training or having good relationships. We should also stay with people who believe in us and actively support us. These people can help push us towards progress. 

Slow progress is still progress. Just as the old saying goes, "It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. " Progress usually comes a lot more slowly than we expect. Even if progress is slow, try not to be worried. One important thing is that we keep taking steps towards our goals, and another is that we clearly remember what our goals are all the time. The actual speed isn't important.
