Next month, most of middle school students will graduate from their school. As for their middle school life, they have different thoughts. 

My school life is a learning experience for sure. It gives me trust and inspiration (灵感) . Most importantly, I have got a lot of knowledge and life skills. For me, my school life gives me many joys in life. 

Till now I have been a student at my school for nine years. For me, it has been an amazing golden age. It is like the happiest dream. Here I began to learn the alphabet and now can use different ways to solve problems. I can never forget the warm welcome on the first day when I came to this school to study. It determines (决定) why my life at school is so important to me. My life at school makes me learn something new almost every day. It helps me to get an understanding of knowledge. Besides this, it helps me to succeed ____ in my studies ____ in activities.

Huang Xuhua, the chief designer of China's first-generation nuclear submarines, passed away at the age of 99 in Wuhan. His life was a story of dedication and hard work for China's defense technology. 

Born in Guangdong in 1926, Huang grew up during war time. He studied shipbuilding at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and joined the Communist Party of China in 1949. In 1958, he was chosen to lead a secret project: designing China's first nuclear-powered submarine. At that time, China had no experience in this field, and foreign countries refused to share technology. 

Huang and his team faced huge challenges. They collected information from newspapers and studied two American submarine models. Without computers, they used simple tools like abacuses and rulers. To avoid mistakes, three groups checked every calculation. Even when the project was paused (暂停) from 1962 to 1965 due to economic difficulties, Huang never gave up. 

Finally, in 1970, China successfully built its first nuclear submarine, becoming the fifth country in the world to do so. Huang's name was kept secret until 1987 because the project was highly confidential. Even in his 90s, Huang worked daily to teach young engineers and share his knowledge. His first submarine is now displayed in a museum, and he received China's highest honor, the Medal of the Republic, in 2019.

However, there are different kinds of stress. Some kinds of stress are good and others are bad. Good stress might happen when you are called to answer questions in class or when you have to give a speech in public. This kind of stress can help you to get things better done. For example, you may do a better job on your test if the stress pushes you to prepare better before the test. 

On the other hand, bad stress can happen if the stress lasts too long. You may not feel well if a family member is ill, if you are having problems at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy every day That kind of stress isn't going to help you. And it can actually make you sick. 

The best way to fight the stress is to have a balanced life. Make sure you keep in mind: sleep, exercise, relaxation, and food. If you get enough sleep and eat healthily, and if you exercise and leave time to have fun, you will feel less stressed.

Maria Lopez was stirring soup and studying spelling words. Her mother was late getting home. Mother had a new job at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Universal Studios is where movies and TV shows are made. Maria thought it was exciting that her mother worked for a TV producer.

Maria was practicing her spelling words for the spelling bee at school.

When her mother came home, Maria hugged her, "Did you get tickets, so I can be on a TV show?" Maria wanted to be an actress. Maria dreamed of being on TV.

"Sorry, no. It is not easy to get tickets." Mother poured the soup. "If I could get tickets, we would sit in the audience. Not be on the TV show."

Maria sighed. She spelled, "U-n-f-a-i-r." "Unfair."

Still, Maria hoped the camera would point at her. Then she could be on TV.

The next day Maria rode the bus to Universal Studios. She wanted to look for her mother. Maria didn't get on TV. She didn't see even one movie star. She spelled, "D-i-s-a-p-p-o-i-n-t-e-d". "Disappointed (失望的)."

"Maria! You cannot come to my work," her mother said.

Maria went from being disappointed to being sad. She didn't want to get her mother in trouble. But now she might never be on TV.

The next day at school was the spelling bee. After many turns at spelling, Maria was the last one left. Maria won the school spelling bee!

When Maria got home, Mother had a surprise for Maria, too. She had tickets to watch a TV show! Maria hoped she could be on TV.

That night they went to the TV show. The camera never pointed at her. Maria didn't get to be TV after all.

Then, Maria's teacher called. Maria would be in a bigger spelling bee with students from many schools! The spelling bee would be at the Convention Center. And it would be on TV!

Maria jumped up and down happily. "H-o-o-r-a-y!" Maria spelled. "Hooray!" She would be on TV after all!

At the spelling bee, Maria would make her mother proud. Maria would be on TV because she had worked hard. Maria ran and got her spelling word list. She needed to study her words just like an actress studies her lines.
