We usually take the subway with our subway cards or by scanning QR codes on our smartphones. But the development of science and technology makes a difference to people's lives. The subway line, Beijing Daxing International Airport Express, uses a new way to take the subway. It is to use the new technology of scanning the palms (扫描手掌).

To enjoy the service, people need to record their palms on machines in subway stations. Then, they have to turn on the palm-scanning function (功能) on their smartphones. After they finish this, they are allowed to go through the ticket gates without subway cards or smartphones. If they finish their rides, their smartphones will pay the money.

The new technology is popular among people. They think it helps them to travel faster and more easily. They needn't take out their subway cards or smartphones in rush hours. What's more, the palm-scanning technology is very friendly to people who sometimes forget to bring their subway cards. If their phones are dead, their palms can get them into the subway station. Besides Beijing, some other cities like Shenzhen also put the new technology into service in subway stations.

Palm-scanning has started to enter people's daily lives. It is believed that the technology will be widely used in more fields in the near future, such as in the supermarket or at the restaurant.

Many people say that a meal in a country can reflect its culture. It's true that Chinese meal has played the same important role.

Usually, in traditional Chinese restaurants, everyone sits at large, round tables where it is easy to see each other. Also, people can talk with one another easily than when sitting around square tables, even if it is a rather large group. One person orders the food for everyone, after thinking about what other diners(就餐者) in the group like.

Then, when the food comes, all is put in the middle of the table. Everyone then serves himself or herself by taking a small bit of the food and putting it on his or her own plate or small bowl. Finally, since people are seated at a round table, everyone is treated with equality(平等). No one is given greater importance over another. However, the older people are always respected by being seated farthest from the door while the host sits nearest to the door. Commonly, the meal gets started by the first move from the older people.

In comparison, Westerners always get their own menu and order their own food. And, since the tables are usually small, it is quite difficult to talk to or even see—— more than a few people during the meal. Just as in the West, Chinese people can also choose what they want to eat when ordering food. However, while in the West, importance is placed on the individual (个体), in China importance is placed on community. Instead of seeing themselves as individuals first, and part of the group second, Chinese people generally see themselves as part of the group first and individuals second.

Nowadays, as part of the meal, Chinese food has drawn more attention around the world. And so, when you are in China, you should make an effort to enjoy Chinese food as much as possible. However, don't waste the chance of joining the people but do it as the Chinese do as a group experience and a time for family, and friendship.

Have you ever tried to hide your emotions(情感) from someone during a conversation?Scientists from the Ohio State University have found that people are able to tell other people's emotions according to changes in the color of their faces.

Scientists studied pictures of people's facial expressions. For example, happiness makes our faces red around the cheeks and a little blue around the chin. Disgust(厌恶) creates not only a blue-yellow color around the lips, but also a red-green color around the nose and forehead.

"We believe these color patterns are the result of small changes in blood flow triggered(触发) by the central nervous(神经) system," Lead researcher Alex Martinez said.

 Does the color alone or also facial expressions help people tell others' emotions?

To figure this out, scientists added color patterns to pictures of faces that showed no facial expressions. They were able to tell the emotions 75 percent of the time without any difficulty.

 For example, when two people are heatedly arguing over something, we say they are red in the faces. When a person is very angry, we'd say he or she is blue in the face.

In 1419, a clockmaker named Fillippo Brunelleschi started working on a very difficult project. He was building the dome(穹顶) of Florence's main cathedral(教堂), the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore. For1,500 years, the world's largest dome  to the Pantheon in Rome. Brunelleschi's job was to build one even larger.

The building of the cathedral began in 1296. By 1359, much of it was complete, but no one knew how to build  dome. Many builders could build concrete(混凝土) domes. However, the dome in Florence needed to be  than any dome ever built. A concrete dome would be too heavy. And the base would not be able to hold the  of the dome. It would easily fall. The cathedral, therefore remained for many years.

Fillippo Brunelleschi promised to find a solution. He said he would build  domes, an inner dome made of stone and an outer one made of light bricks. He would use lighter materials  he worked upwards. Strong rings made of stone, wood and iron would hold everything together.

Brunelleschi also had to find a way  the materials high into the air. What did he do? He invented a new machine to do the job.

It took 16 years to finish the job. Brunelleschi had done something no one else could, and it turned out to be even more beautiful than people . However, he left no pictures of his design. So even today experts don't  understand how this amazing structure was built.

As teenagers grow up, it can be easy for them to form bad habits. These bad habits, if left unchecked, could lead to more serious ones. So teenagers must learn to recognize bad habits early and make proper changes.

To change bad habits is never easy. We make a choice to do something, and then we repeat it over and over again. Soon that choice forms a habit that is much harder to change. We can change, if we understand how habits work.

We must first learn about the"habit cycle", which works like this: Firstly, there is a"cue", an action or situation that acts as a signal(信号) to do something. Secondly, there is a"routine", the regular(有规律的) action you take in response(反应) to the cue. Thirdly, there is the"reward", the good thing or feeling we get from the routine.

For example, when we feel unhappy(cue), we eat lots of unhealthy food(routine), which makes us feel happy(reward). Then the bad habit of depending on unhealthy snacks is formed.

To change our bad habits, we must first examine our habit cycles and then try to change them. So, when we feel unhappy again, rather than eat unhealthy food, we could listen to some of our favourite music instead, which will make us feel relaxed.

Many of us try to change bad habits instantly, and if we are not successful right away, we often give up. In fact, the most successful way to change is not sudden, but takes more time. A person must take many small steps to change a bad habit.

For young people, there is plenty of time to change bad habits. But you have to think about your bad habits and decide on some changes. You have the power to build a happy and healthy life full of good habits!

It's 5:30 a. m. and your phone rings. A police officer says someone broke into a store and took some expensive items. They need you right away. It is your job to study the whole scene for clues that will help catch the thief(小偷). You are a crime scene investigator(调查者), and the game is on. 

Outside the store, you see a broken window, but there is no glass on the street. There are shoe prints,and marks made by a vehicle' s tires. You look at the shoe prints. They're large, so you're likely looking for a man. You photograph the shoe's pattern. This can tell you the type of shoe. You then measure the space between the shoe prints. You now know how long the person's steps were. This gives you an idea of how tall the thief was.

As you follow the shoe prints over to the tire marks, the spaces between the steps get bigger. They lead to the passenger' s side of the vehicle(车辆). Now you know the thief probably didn't work alone. You photograph the tire marks. They can help you find out the type of vehicle and the direction it went.

The most important clues will come from a person's body. You find some fingerprints near the broken window. Using a computer, you can compare these prints against millions of others. You also find a hair.You keep it, because you know hair contains a person's DNA. You can compare this with other people's DNA, too. If you find a match for the fingerprint or the DNA, you will know who was in the store.

Will you find the thief? You now have a lot of information! So it's possible. For a crime scene investigator, it's all in a day's work.

One day, a woman bought a parrot from a pet store. However, the woman decided to 1 the parrot to the store the next day. "This bird doesn't 2 ," she told the pet store owner. "Does he have a 3 ?" the owner asked. "Parrots enjoy watching themselves in it." So the woman bought one and left.

I'm growing up fast and the room seems to get smaller. So I decided to sell something I no longer use in a community . First, I needed to   all the things. At first, I was quite unhappy to the toys and model plane. But my mom told me life is always  goodbyes and pity(遗憾) and I need to get used to them. But  , saying goodbyes doesn't mean forgetting. I will always remember the happy times with them.
