Early in the morning, at noon, or in the evening in big cities and in the countryside, all over the United States, you can see Americans running—men and women, young and old. People run somewhere. Some people even run in their living rooms.

Running wasn't so popular many years ago. In the past, runners were mostly sportsmen and healthy strong people. When people saw a runner, they used to ask, "Hey , why are you in a hurry?" or they might say to them, "Is he crazy?" At that time, women almost never run. If they did, people might laugh at (嘲笑) them. But today all these have changed. Men and women of all ages enjoy running.

Doctors say many of the health problems in the United States come from these bad habits (习惯) : eating too much and taking little exercise. Doctors tell us, "Eat less and exercise more". Running is a good exercise because it can make people strong.

One day, a fisherman came to this pond. When he saw so many fish swimming around, he went back and told other fishermen to come as well.

Seeing this, the fish got worried. They didn't want to become food.

The wisest fish among them said, "We must find another pond and leave quickly." One fish agreed, but the third fish didn't want to leave. He felt that this pond was their home and he had many good memories (记忆), "We should not be afraid of them, for this pond is our home."

The other two fish tried hard to make their friend leave, but they couldn't. So they decided to leave for a new pond. On the following day, when the fishermen arrived, they caught all the fish in the pond and took them home for a delicious meal.
