The scenic Duku Highway in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. known as the most beautiful highway in China with various landscapes, reopened. It's the earliest reopening in the past five years, and it's expected to bring more tourists this year. 

The 561-kilometer highway along China's National Highway 217 connects Dushanzi and Kuqa. It goes through many kinds of landscapes like canyons, glaciers, lakes, forests, grasslands and yardangs. It's a popular spot for Internet influencers and a must-go for self-driving tour lovers. 

At about 10:30 am on Saturday, vehicle horns sounded at the Usu toll station in Usu city. Over 1, 000 motorhomes, off-road vehicles and motorcycles from all over the country started on the highway. A general manager of a tourism company said his company organized four vehicles for the reopening. There were many vehicles, so he could only drive at the speed between 40 kilometers and 50 kilometers per hour. 

Most drivers were from places like Yunnan, Liaoning, Henan and Hubei. Wang, a self-driving tourist from Sichuan, said it was his first time in Xinjiang and he planned a 10-day drive. 

Half of the road is at over 2, 000 meters' altitude. One-third is along cliffs. It crosses four snow mountains and 10 rivers. So, it has to be closed for up to eight months each year because of snow and ice. It usually opens from July to October every year but opened 17 days earlier this year. 

This year, Tacheng Prefecture and Usu city prepared well. They improved infrastructure and monitored the weather to reopen early. In Usu city, hotels and B & Bs are fully booked. Food streets are open and public toilets are set up. This year, Xinjiang is developing the tourism economy by launching 10 driving routes. Local departments are improving infrastructure and services. Visitor service centers have been equipped with supporting facilities such as charging piles for electric vehicles to continuously improve convenience for tourists.

One morning, a young man found himself under a bridge, waking up from a night's sleep. He checked his pockets and found only a few dollars. Feeling sad, he realized that he couldn't 1 a job and that no one was there to help him. Since he was 2 , he decided to spend his money on some food. 

As he sat down to eat his meal, an old woman with two children 3 . They asked if he could offer them some 4 , as they hadn't eaten anything for almost a week. The young man kindly gave them all the food he had. In return, the old woman gave him an old 5 . Before they left, the woman reminded him to 6 it— and so he did.

The young man immediately went around in 10 of the three people to share the good news. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't find them. But he decided to continue to help others whenever he could.

Former Brazil international footballer Kaka visited China's Village Super League in Rongjiang county on Monday night. Even though it was a workday, the stadium was full of spectators who cheered and welcomed Kaka. 

In 2023, the Village Super League (VSL), also called"Cun Chao" with 20 teams, was popular in China and all over the world because it was real and had a happy feeling. It even got the attention of England's Premier League. Their representatives came to Rongjiang and trained local coaches. Former England football star Michael Owen sent his congratulations in a video. 

Earlier, Kaka said in a video that he was invited by the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development and a Chinese smartphone brand to take part in the"ChasingDreams" charity football event. This is to help local youth football and the VSL develop. 

Besides Kaka, former Chinese players like Wang Kun, Hong Kong celebrity football team member Chen Baixiang, and some Chinese Olympic champions also visited the VSL. 

Football fans made two teams for the"Chasing Dreams" charity football match. Team members of the VSL in Rongjiang joined too. 

Lai, a member of the VSL organizing committee, said, "The Village Super League is not just about football, but also about cultural exchange. " The VSL is a big cultural and sports carnival with football and ethnic cultures. The county hopes to make more foreign friends with the help of international stars like Kaka. 

Before going to the hotel in Rongjiang, Kaka tried the local tradition of drinking homemade rice wine when arriving. During the match, he saw shows of local Miao and Dong ethnic minorities. "I believe the ethnic cultures in Rongjiang will impress Kaka and help him know China better, " said Lai. 

During his stay in Rongjiang, Kaka also watched a match of students from local elementary schools. A 10-year-old girl from Guzhou Town Second Primary School, said she started playing football in the third grade and was a fan of Kaka for his good skills. Football taught her about teamwork. The popularity of the Village Super League made many of her classmates play football. She hoped more football stars would come to the VSL and have fun with grassroots football.

Last week, the media reports said some storage companies, like Sinograin, used the same tankers to transport both edible oil and liquid fuels made from coal. This"open secret" in the industry has raised concerns about food safety nationwide. 

On Tuesday, the office of the food safety commission under China's State Council said a team with many authorities has been made to fully look into the improper use of tanker trucks for carrying edible oil. Companies and people who are to blame will be punished hard. The results of the investigation and how it's dealt with will be told to the public soon. 

Professor Zhu said liquid fuels with a lot of toxic hydrocarbons can cause big health problems even if people eat a little. Long-term use can cause poisoning. Deng, a legal expert, said this mixed transportation is surely against the law according to the country's FoodSafety Law. 

Sanhe Hopeful Grain and Oil Group and the subsidiary of Sinograin, China GrainReserves Oil and Fat(Tianjin) Co. are among the companies involved in this issue. Market regulators in Langfang and Tianjin have begun their investigations and will inform the public the results in due time. Sinograin has ordered a full self-check. 

Yang, an assistant researcher, thinks that although the Chinese authorities have tried hard to make food safe, we need stricter rules and systems to watch the whole industry chain and make sure these rules are obeyed.
