I'm Jack from America. My hobby(be) reading. I read storybooks, magazines and many kinds of materials (材料). I think they are(interest). This hobby started when I waslittle boy. I always wanted my parents(read) stories to me.

Soon they got tired of reading to me, I learned to read by myself. I started with some simple ABC(book). When I could read some easy stories later, I (feel) excited. Now I read about anything that I can get. Reading helps me learn about many things. I learned about how people lived in the past. I learned about the space travel, big animals like whales (鲸), and many other thingsthe world.

The wonderful thing about reading is that I don't have to learn things in a dangerous way. For example, I do not have to go into the forest to learn about wild tigers. I can read all about(they) in a book.

Books give readers a lot of information and facts. They certainly help us a lot in our(day) lives. I feel glad that I have such a good hobby.

In ancient China, willow branches (柳树枝) were often used as a parting (告别) gift between friends and family members. 

One reason is that willow trees are strong. Because of this unique (独特的) feature, giving a willow branch to say goodbye to loved ones is a way to tell them you hope they will easily adapt to their new living environment.

Meanwhile, in Mandarin (普通话), the pronunciation for the willow tree "liu" is similar to the character "liu", which means asking someone to stay—only the tones (声调) are different. Even though we know that they must leave, we still do like that.

At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang'an, today's Xi'an, was a common place to say goodbye. People often stopped there and handed willow branches to people who want to leave.

In The Book of Poetry, there is the line "When I left there, willows shed tears. " At the time of the Tang and Song dynasties, such poems were common as traveling was easy and poets felt the sorrow of separation (离别). For example, Wang Wei wrote "The willows by the hotel look so fresh and green," in his famous poem A Fond Farewell to a Friend.

Water is the gift from nature. No water, no lives. But there isn't enough water on the earth. So people around the world are trying their best to save water.

Singapore is a very small island. People there are very good at collecting rainwater. And they use rain water in different ways. Japan is a small island, too. To save water, people there reuse water very often. They even build special pipes to make the dirty water clean enough for washing or cleaning. In Australia, there are laws (法律) about using water. For example, people can only water gardens in the morning. People there also use a special kind of tap to save water. What's more, when washing cars, they can not throw water onto the car directly (直接地 ) . They must clean the car with a piece of cloth (布 ). In China, we have a special time to promote the importance of water. In China, we also have our own ways. March 22nd is World Water Day. We turn it into Water Week from March 22nd to 28th. It helps people develop a good habit of saving water.
