My Best Friend,Lingling

I have a best friend named Lingling. We 1 in the same class—Class Six, Grade Seven. Lingling is from Beijing, and she is 12 years old, just like me.

Making a Friendship Card for My New Friend

Last week, I met a new friend named Tom in the reading club. He likes reading science books, just like me. I want to make a friendship card for him to show my kindness. Here's how I did it:

First, I prepared the materials I needed.  I got a piece of blue paper (Tom's favorite color), a black pen, colored pencils, and some star stickers. My mom helped me cut the paper into a square—this size is easy to hold. 

Second, I wrote my info on the front of the card.  I drew a small book on the top left (because we both like reading), then wrote my name "Li Hua" and my hobby "reading science books" next to it. I used colored pencils to make the book look colorful. 

Third, I added a short message inside the card.  I wrote, "Hi Tom! It's great to meet you in the reading club. I hope we can read more science books together and be good friends forever!" I also drew a small star next to the message. 

Fourth, I decorated the back of the card.  I stuck three star stickers on the back and wrote "Friendship Card" in big letters. My dad said it looked nice and Tom would like it. 

When I gave the card to Tom, he smiled and said, "Thank you! This is the best gift I've got here. " We talked about science books again, and I felt very happy.

Why Friends Are Important in Our School Life

In school, we spend most of our time with classmates and friends. Friends are not just people we play with—they are important for our happy school life. Here are three reasons why friends matter. 

First, friends help us when we are in trouble. For example, if you forget your pencil case, a friend will lend you a pen or pencil. If you don't understand a math problem, a friend will explain it to you. When you feel sad because you fail a test, a friend will comfort you and encourage you to try again. Without friends, we may feel helpless when we face problems. 

Second, friends make school life more fun. We can play games together during break time, share interesting stories after class, and join clubs with friends. For example, if you like hiking, you can go hiking with friends on weekends. If you like singing, you can practice songs with friends for the school concert. Doing things with friends makes boring days more exciting. 

Third, friends help us become better people. When you have a friend who likes reading, you may start reading too. When your friend is kind to others, you may learn to be kind too. Friends influence each other—good friends help you develop good habits and positive characters. For example, my friend Lingling is quiet but hard-working. She always finishes her homework on time, and now I also try to finish my homework on time. 

Some people may say, "I can be happy alone. " But being alone for a long time can make you feel lonely. School life without friends is like a day without sunshine—it's dull and cold. 

In short, friends are an important part of our school life. They help us, make us happy, and help us grow. We should cherish our friends and be good friends to others. 

How to Describe a Friend Clearly

When you want to introduce your friend to others, you need to describe him or her clearly. A good description should include key information, so others can get a clear picture of your friend. The chart below shows the important parts of describing a friend and examples. 

First, basic info is the start. You should tell others your friend's name first—this is the most important. For example, "This is my friend, Xiao Ya. " Then you can add age and where he/she is from, like "She is 12 years old and from Tianjin. "

Next, describing looks helps others imagine your friend. You don't need to say every detail—just the obvious ones. For example, "He is tall and thin, with short brown hair. " Avoid using difficult words; simple words are better. 

Character is also important. It tells others what your friend is like. For example, "She is kind—she often helps classmates with their homework. " Or "He is active—he likes to organize games during break time. "

Hobbies show what your friend enjoys doing. You can say, "He likes hiking on weekends" or "She enjoys singing and playing the guitar. " This helps others find common interests with your friend. 

Finally, talking about daily activities with your friend makes the description more lively. For example, "We often go to the library together to read books" or "We play football every Saturday afternoon. "

My New Friend at School

Last month, a new girl joined our class. Her name is Sarah. She came from Canada, and she looked a little nervous on her first day. I wanted to be her friend, so I walked up to her and said, "Hello! I'm Li Mei. Welcome to our class. " Sarah smiled and said, "Thank you! I'm Sarah. I'm not used to the new school yet. "

I told Sarah about our class: our teacher is Miss Wang, who is kind to everyone; our math class is on Monday and Wednesday; and we have a reading club every Friday afternoon. Sarah said she loved reading too—she often read English stories in Canada. We decided to join the reading club together.

A Letter to My Best Friend

Dear Lily, 

Hi! How are you? I miss you so much. I want (tell) you about my new school life, but I also want to say thank you—you were such a great friend to me.
