Children around the world are familiar with stories like The Little Mermaid,The Princess and the Pea and The Emperor's New Clothes.The colourful 1 from the stories made us laugh and cry throughout our childhood.

The stories were written by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen.He was born into a 2 family in  Odense,Denmark,on April 2nd,1805.His  3 was not easy.His father was a shoemaker and his mother was a washerwoman.He received very little education.And he was always laughed at for being feminine(女性化的)when he was a child.

In 1816,his father died and Andersen was forced to go out to work,first in a tailor's shop and then at a tobacco factory.At the age of 14,Andersen moved to Copenhagen to start a 4 .

as a singer and actor.He worked there for several years until he had to 5 the theatre when his voice changed.

Afterwards,Andersen went to a grammar school and 6 to publish stories.They came out in large numbers.

Tom didn''t like Sundays.He had to go to Sunday school.He had to do homework,and it was difficult.He didn't enjoy doing homework,but he did it because then he would get  blue ticket.If one had ten blue tickets,he/she could get a red one.If one had ten red tickets,he/she could get a yellow one.If one had ten yellow tickets,you could get a new book.

Tom had lots of tickets.He wasn't very good at doing his homework, he was good at trading.He gave Bill a piece of candy and a fishhook.Bill gave him a yellow ticket.  He gave other boys some of the things he had from  (let)others paint the fence and got more tickets. (Final),he had enough to get a new book.

That  Sunday,a  new  girl  named  Becky  Thatcher  came  to  Sunday  school  for  the  (one)time.Her   parents   came  too,and  the  (child)learnt   that her father was a very important judge.

The Sunday school teacher wanted to show Judge Thatcher that it was a good class.He asked if any of the boys or girls had enough tickets for a new book.Everybody was very surprised when Tom   (stand)up.The   Sunday  school  teacher  was  (surprised) than anybody else.He counted the tickets.There were enough for a new book.He gave Tom the book,and Tom  (allow)to sit with the important new people.

"What's  your  name?"asked  Judge  Thatcher.Tom  told  him.

Then Judge Thatcher asked him an easy question from his homework.Tom did not know the answer.He guessed.He was wrong.He was so wrong that the whole class laughed  him.
