Be Thankful to Our Parents

A vegetable seed buyer put a video online. The parents and their three children showed the vegetables they planted on their balcony (阳台). 

The video was in a group chat of an online flower store. People in the group shared what they planted on their balcony. In the group chat, a mother wanted to get some new seeds for free because her children were interested in growing vegetables at home. 

Balcony gardening are popular these years. In April 2022, the sales of seeds and products rose greatly. Shanghai and Beijing are the top cities for balcony gardening. 

Zhang Min is one of the vegetable growers. She said she got small tomatoes three times from her balcony garden. She put them in her dishes when cooking. 

For children, balcony gardening can help them love and enjoy nature.

More and more people keep dogs at home. For some people, dogs are just animals. But for others, dogs are their  or family. Dogs are very cute and clever,  some of them can learn numbers. 

If you want to have one, buy a little dog when your house is  and a big one if you have a big place. 

Dogs  many kinds of food. They like , fruit and many other things. But don't let your dogs eat too much. They may feel ill. So it is bad for  health to eat too much. And you  need to give them some clean water. In summer, it is hot and they need it very much. 

Dogs are very cute, and people like  with them or walking their dogs. Dogs are really alert (警惕的) at night. But they usually sleep  ten hours, so you can't forget to take your dogs to take exercise. You can  love from them too.

Almost all animals need to sleep, but some have special ways. 

The albatross (信天翁) is one of the biggest flying birds. Albatrosses fly in the sky for months without getting to the ground. They can fly about 22,000 kilometres around the Earth in 46 days! They sometimes even sleep when they are flying. 

A flamingo (火烈鸟) can sleep when it is standing on one leg. The standing leg always stays in the water. The other leg stays close to its body. It always puts its head on its back. 

Horses often sleep when they are standing up. If a horse lies (躺下) down, it needs a long time to get up. A standing horse can run away fast when it sees dangerous things. And horses only need about three hours of sleep a day. 

Giraffes often sleep for a short time. They sleep about 30 minutes a day, and 5 minutes at a time. They lie down when they sleep. They put their heads on their bodies or on the ground. What an interesting way of sleeping!

I still remember the memories of the following poems (诗) every time I read them. 

Do you know snails (蜗牛). They are interesting, aren't they?

People all say snails "walk", but most of the time snails don't move at all. They are in their shells (壳) —1 . 

The 2 sun will dry out a snail's body. So when it's sunny, a snail doesn't get out of its shell. A snail will be happy in 3 days. When it rains, it goes out of its shell house. A snail can sleep as long as it needs to. It can have a 4 sleep, or it can sleep for days at a time. And it 5 all the winter in its shell. 

In spring the snail wakes up. Its 6 , about 8 cm long, comes out of the shell. When hungry, the snail 7 food. It can't 8 very well because its eyes are very weak (虚弱的). But its smell can help find food. Usually, a snail looks for food at 9 . But on cloudy days it eats in the daytime. A snail can keep eating for 10 a day and never feels full.
