Have you ever seen a wall of sand coming towards you? It is not a cloud. It is a sandstorm!

A sandstorm happens in hot, sandy areas, such as Saudi Arabia, North Africa and the USA. Winds in the desert pick up the top layer(层) of sand and lift(扬起) it into the air. Sandstorms can be very big.The wall of sand can be up to 15 metres tall and many miles long. Sand from the storm can rise much higher, up to 1,500 metres. Sandstorms can travel 25 miles an hour. So if you see one coming, you must act quickly. It will arrive before you know it!

Sandstorms usually happen in summer, the driest time of the year, when sand lifts up easily. They are dangerous for many reasons. First, you cannot see well outside. Sand gets into your nose and mouth and can go into your lungs(肺). Second, drivers cannot see clearly, so accidents become more frequent(频繁的).

If you have to go outside in a sandstorm, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Also, cover your mouth and nose with a scarf. It is also important to close all doors and windows. Even if you do your best, sand still gets into the house. Everything gets dusty— even the pages of your books!

Sandstorms are a serious problem in many parts of the world. Scientists are studying ways to stop them, such as planting more trees. Remember, if a sandstorm is coming, stay inside and stay safe.

People in different   greet each other in different ways. These customs may surprise visitors at first, but they are part  each culture.

When you face doubts, the first step is to stay calm. Don't argue with others at once. Instead, take a deep breath and think carefully. If yes, thank the truth and try to improve. If no, just pay no attention to it.

Use your actions to prove(证明) yourself.

 For example, if someone doesn't believe you can do well in a test, don't just get angry. Study hard every day, do your homework, and go over your notes. When you get a good score,you will show them that you can do it.

No one knows you better than yourself. When others doubt you, don't lose hope. Tell yourself, "Ican do it!" Let your doubts make you stronger. Keep working hard for your dreams. If you believe in yourself, you will find success in the end.

In short, doubts help us grow. Stay calm, work hard, and trust yourself. You can turn doubts into power and become better.

What comes to your mind when you hear"a small waterway"? Can a small waterway influence the whole world? The Strait of Hormuz(霍尔木兹海峡) shows us that the answer is yes.

The Strait of Hormuz lies in the southwest of Asia. It is about 150 km long. It is between 56 km and 125 km wide, but the smallest part is only 33 to 48. 3 km. Even though it is not large, it is the only waterway from the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean. All oil ships from the Gulf countries must pass through it. That is why people call it the"World Oil Valve"(世界油阀).

In history, the strait was part of the Maritime Silk Road(海上丝绸之路). That old sea road connected China with many other countries. People used it to trade silk, tea, and other things. It was very important in trade and cultural exchange in old days. In modern times, the strait is not only important for oil transport but also for relations between countries. Countries near the strait, like Iran and Oman, play a key role in keeping it open. If the strait is closed, oil prices around the world could rise very quickly. That is why many powerful countries pay close attention to this small waterway.Sometimes, some countries send their military(军事的) ships through the strait to show how strong they are. A small problem here may become a big trouble for the whole world.

So the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important waterways in the world. Though it is small, it can influence oil prices and relations between countries. The more you learn about it, the more it will surprise you.

In a city, there stood a beautiful statue(雕塑) called the happy prince. He was covered with gold leaves. His eyes were two bright blue jewels(宝石), and on his sword(剑) there was a big red jewel.Everyone thought he looked very happy.

One night, a little swallow(燕子) flew over the city. His friends had already gone to Egypt for the winter, but he was left behind. He decided to rest between the feet of the Happy Prince. Suddenly, he felt drops of water falling on him. The statue was crying! The swallow asked,"Why are you crying?"The prince said,"When I was alive, I was always happy. But now I see all the sad and poor people in my city. Though my heart is made of stone, I can still cry."

The prince asked the swallow to help him. First, he asked the swallow to take the red jewel from his sword to a poor mother whose son was sick. The swallow did so. Then the prince asked the swallow to take one of his blue jewel eyes to a young writer who was cold and hungry. Again, the swallow helped. Then the prince asked the swallow to take his other blue jewel eye to a poor little match girl.The swallow did not want to make the prince blind, but the prince ordered him to do so. After that, the prince was blind. The swallow decided to stay with him forever.

The swallow flew all over the city, taking the gold leaves from the prince's body to give to the poor. The prince became grey and dull, but the poor people became happier. Winter came, and the swallow grew colder and colder. Finally, he kissed the prince and fell dead at his feet. At that moment,the prince's heart broke into two pieces.

God saw the dead swallow and the broken heart. He said,"These are the two most valuable things in the city. The swallow will sing forever in my garden. The prince will live forever in my golden city.Their kindness and love never die."
