Huang Xuhua was born in Guangdong Province in 1926. When he was young, he saw the hard times of his country under foreign attacks (侵略). These sad memories made him study hard. He made a promise to make the country strong with his knowledge.
In the 1950s, when China started to develop nuclear submarines, it was a very difficult job. Huang Xuhua was not afraid and stood up bravely. Chinese writing has a history of six or seven thousand years. Calligraphy (书法), the art of writing, is almost as old as writing itself.
In ancient times, written Chinese was the first symbols and pictures. Later, characters and even full sentences were written on animal bones or shells for communication.
With time passing by, a number of written forms appeared. Each had its own local style. In the 3rd century BC, the first emperor, Qinshihuang, set the same standard for the written characters—"small seal script". That writing system was very important in uniting (联合) the Chinese people and culture. At the same time, as people needed to write faster in daily life and work, Cheng Miao developed another style called "clerical" script. By Han times, calligraphers had created a new style known as "regular" script. From the Tang Dynasty, it became the standard form used in government exams.
What we needed were the Four Treasures of the study: a brush, ink (墨) stick, ink stone and paper. Students of calligraphy practiced the main types of script and improved their skills by copying the works of past masters. With the increase of their knowledge and practice, they slowly developed their own styles.
The art of calligraphy reached a high point in the 4th century. At that time there were many famous calligraphers. Calligraphy remains a living art form to this day. It has become part of the school courses to pass on the Chinese culture.
A. Then, they gradually became characters.
B. The tools of calligraphy were simple enough.
C. It used short, straight brush strokes (笔画) to write quickly.
D. It was first used in his own state of Qin, then in the whole nation.
E. Among them, calligrapher Wang Xizhi was often regarded as the greatest master.

① One morning, I got up early and decided to make an apple pie for my mom. I called my grandma for help, followed a TV program to make jam (果酱) and waited excitedly. I enjoyed every step so much that I didn't notice three hours passed by. Although the pie looked terrible and was not that delicious, mom ate it up and told me it was the best pie that she had ever had. For the first time, I realized that although I didn't make the pie successfully, I really enjoyed the process.
② The process is important because it brings us something bigger than the result itself. That is, we always have new experiences during the process, which may help us improve our skills or develop good relationships with others. If we just concentrate on the result and do not enjoy the process, we will probably become disappointed and want to give up. As a result, we will never understand the real meaning of success.
③ But in this busy world, we see that a lot of successful people are in competition. How can we enjoy the process? Well, the question has the answer in itself.
④ Don't always compare yourself with others. First of all, we are all different. And success means different things to us. For some, success means being famous, while for others, it may be health or power. Ride your own ride.
⑤Slow down. You need to stop expecting immediate (即时的) results in what you do and learn to be patient. Impatience leads to unhappiness. Do it slowly, but never stop.
