We had to send her to the airport, and of course in the next several days, my brother and I waited nervously, hoping that God could return our mother to us safely. Finally, the day came when she walked out of the airport, with her eyes shining. We felt she seemed as if she were in her thirties again. She told us it had been a wonderful success. As it turned out, she had hardly spent any time alone after asking a taxi driver to show her around the country for some days. He took her to all kinds of places— the markets, churches and restaurants. He introduced her to a blanket(毛毯) seller—a lovely man and she bought some blankets. The seller took her address and promised to mail the blankets home. The seller and my mother clearly built a friendship and she told him to drop by if he were ever in Canada. My mother laughed happily when she told this story. However, we thought she was cheated. 

To our great surprise, her blankets did arrive some weeks later, along with a lovely note from the seller Leonardo. To our even greater surprise, the following year Leonardo himself arrived, who was a handsome young man. My mother was busy showing him around those days and they did build a stronger friendship. The mouths of my brother and I fell open in surprise. 

Her character of independence shows she totally understands that life is to be lived. It reminded me of the line from the movie The Shawshank Redemption(《肖申克的救赎》), "Get busy living or get busy dying. "

China has changed rapidly over the past 76years. We asked some students to share their feelings about the rapid changes and development of China. Here are two students' answers online. 

Think about what is happening in many families— Kids come home, throw away their schoolbags, jump onto the sofa and get lost in the world of the small screen. Kids lose themselves in screens and games. Now the alarm  (铃) start ringing. It's  (必要的)for parents to shape the future for their children. On January 1st, the Law on Family Education Promotion came into effect. Parents are (鼓励) to educate their children properly. 

The law bans(禁止) parents,  (尤其) those with primary or  (教育中等的) school students, from putting too much pressure on their children by carefully organising their children's time to study, rest. play and exercise, such as swimming in a (游泳池). The law also says that parents should not discriminate(区别对待)against the youth according to their gender or physical condition. 

The law also  (提及) children of migrant workers in rural areas. Their parents are always  (缺席的). It asks governments to keep a close eye on such families, and help the parents get  (当地的) jobs so that they can look after their children. Those children may get good health in both physical and mental with their parents' care, and then they can live a happy and (健康的) life. 

Now, with the instructions of the new law, family education is no longer just a family matter. The law says that society should provide support and services for family education.

Best Tourism Villages

Four villages in China have been named "Best Tourism Villages 2023" by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). Let's get to know them together. 

With a long history, Huangling Village is in the northeast of Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It is a typical mountain village with buildings in a fan shape centred around a water source. Its buildings are classic Hui-style. 

Once known as a poor village, Xiajiang Village in Zhejiang Province has developed a green way in recent years. Today, the village sits among clear waters with green mountains around, And more and more people come to visit this 800-year-old village. 

Zhagana Village in Gansu Province is between 3, 000 and 3, 300 metres above sea level. "Zhagana" means" stone box" in the language of Zang, Zhagana is a complete natural "stone city", like a great palace sitting on rocky cliffs(悬崖). 

Zhujiawan Village is in the northwest of Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province, in the southern foothills of the Qinling Mountains. This mountain village has been regarded as one of the first "Most Beautiful Leisure Villages in China". With the Niubeiliang Forest Park, the village is planned to be a beautiful natural "reception hall(接待厅)" for the Qinling Mountains. 

The beginning of spring is beautiful. The winter cold starts to leave, and flowers start to come out. It is the (完美的) time to visit flower gardens like Keukenhof, which lies in the Netherlands. The area used to(提供) food for the towns around it. People raised animals and planted vegetables as well as fruit. (因为) of this, it was known as the "kitchen garden" in the 15th century. 

As time went on, different people owned the land and made changes to it. In 1641, people(成功) in building a large house and named it Keukenhof. (超过)200 years later, the garden area was rebuilt in an English style. (官员) first opened it to the public in 1950, More than 200, 000people visited the park during its first year. Now, it receives about one (百万)visitors every year. 

Keukenhof is a spring garden and is only open for eight weeks each year, usually between March and May. The best time to see the flowers(决定于) on the growing season for that year. It is also quite convenient for people to get there. You can take a (航班)to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, and then get(径直地) to the garden. As one of the largest flower gardens in the world, Keukenhof is exactly a good place for flower lovers.

Let's celebrate an amazing victory! In the2024 Paris Olympics men's table tennis final, our beloved Fan Zhendong beat Sweden's Moregard 4-1 to win the gold medal. This win isn't just about one game--It shows the great spirit of Chinese table tennis!

Fan's journey to gold wasn't easy. In the quarter-finals, he faced Japan's strong player Harimoto Tomokazu, Fan was losing 0-2 at first, then 2-3, But he never gave up! With his amazing fighting spirit and skills, he turned the game around and won 4-3. This exciting match showed Fan's perseverance(毅力). In the semi-finals, Fan easily beat the French player. The final against Moregard was tough too. Moregard had beaten the top seed Wang Chuqin earlier. But Fan played amazingly and won the gold!

Let's cheer for Fan Zhendong! He has now won the 2016 World Cup, the 2021 World Championships, and an Olympic gold medal. He's become the sixth player ever to win the "Grand Slam" of table tennis after the Swedish player Waldner and the Chinese players LiuGuoliang, Kong Linghui, Ma Long and so on.

The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics was held successfully. As we pay more attention to the event, there is much to be learned about it. 

According to a new report, the organisers promise to do less harm to the environment by minimising the number of newly-built facilities(设施). In Paris, about 95 percent of stadiums are either already built or will be set up for short-term use. About 11, 000 seats in two stadiums, Porte de La Chapelle Arena in Paris and the Olympic Aquatics centre in Saint-Denis, will use recycled(回收利用的) plastic chairs. The decision was made after local manufacturers(制造 商) found there weren't enough plastic materials(塑料材料), which led them to turn to recycled waste. 

The organisers began working with Lemon Tri and Le Pavé, The two companies got an idea of getting plastic waste from recycling bins around the city. Over 100 tons of plastic is needed to make the seats and 80 percent of it is collected from local schools and street-side bins in Seine-Saint-Denis. It is also where the plastic waste is processed(加工) into new materials. 

"We ask children to put their plastic bottles in the bins and tell them they' ll become the seats of the Olympic swimming pool. This helps them learn about the importance of recycling waste and how small actions can lead to big changes, " says Augustin Jaclin from Lemon Tri. 

Of course, collecting plastic is one thing and turning it into Olympic chairs is another. After all, making them is not as easy as making normal chairs. 

Have you ever read Water Margin(《水浒传》)?It is one of China's four most81 novels. The novel described 108heroes who came from different backgrounds and fought for 2 . Although they finally failed and even lost their lives, their stories are still 3 today.

Ne Zha 2 is a sequel(续集) to the 2019movie Ne Zha. They were both directed by YangYu, known as Jiaozi. In the 2019 film, the character Ne Zha looked totally different from the traditional one— He is a naughty child with dark eye circles and a gap-toothed smile instead of an easygoing and handsome kid in the novel Fengshen Yanyiof Ming Dynasty. It took five years to create and produce Ne Zha

Most parents don't know what their teenage children are talking about when they are having a chat with their friends. This is also true when teenagers are using the language of texting to send messages. Words like "OMG" are easy to understand, but what about "POS"? I asked some parents what it means and only about 28%got it right! It means that a parent is near and that they are watching what their child is doing. 

Parents worry a lot and like to know what is happening in their children's lives at all times. This means they try to control as much of their children's lives as possible. However, they have no control over the language that their children use, so it is a useful way for children to keep parts of their life secret. 

Parents also complain(抱怨) that they never have serious conversations with their teenage children, Teenagers are always busy phoning or texting their friends, even when parents are trying to talk to them. And there are times when teenagers aren't busy, but they just don't feel like having a serious chat with Mum or Dad!

One way to start real conversations is to make sure that the whole family eat together at mealtimes and that everyone has a chance to talk, Teenagers are trying to find out who they are. They aren't adults yet, but they are learning how to act like grown people. 

This means that it is a good idea to speak to teenagers like they are adults and it helps to listen to their ideas and opinions carefully. When parents talk to their teenagers, some good advice is "Don't sound like your own parents!". In addition, parents who try to use the language of teenagers often sound very silly. And that's because most times when an adult tries to use "teen talk", the words are probably already unfashionable!
