As the saying goes, "If you don't succeed, try, try again. " This is quite true when you' re trying to learn English. Lai Shixiong,  expert from Taiwan Province, China, has a story to share. 

Like many non-native(非本土的) speakers, Lai didn't succeed   he was in high school. He once got a low mark of 7 out of 100 in an English test. He almost gave up English, but then he met a classmate who was talented  English. Surprised by his classmate's beautiful  (pronounce), Lai decided to start learning English all over again just like a baby. To pronounce words  (correct). Lai started learning 48 phonetic symbols. Every day he  (repeat) them hundreds of times. After that, he practised hard to improve his  (speak) skills. Not being able to find a partner to practise speaking with, Lai just talked to  (he) as if he were in the conversation. Lai also thought of ways to improve his other skills. He used English to describe everything he saw.  (improve) writing skills, he kept a diary in English every day.

Do you believe languages have magic? Whenever I missed my family during my stay in America, I would talk with my friend who was also in the same school in 1 . In this way, I seemed to 2 to my motherland where I grew up.

①When you are learning a language, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. When you read, not only can you learn some new words, but also you can learn how to use them. When you read, it gives you a good example for writing. But how can you do it better? Here is some good reading advice. 

②Try to increase the number of your new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, don't use a dictionary. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read and write them down in your own vocabulary book. Try to look them up in the dictionary and remember them later. 

③Try to read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes or half an hour every day is better than two hours every Sunday. For example, you can read before you go to bed, or after you get up or at lunchtime. If you continue doing that, you will also improve your writing. 

④ Tr y to read at the right level. Read something that you can understand. If it is too hard for you, it cannot attract you. If it's too easy, it wastes your time. It's good for you to read books just right for you. 

⑤Read something that interests you. Choose a newspaper, a book or a magazine about a subject you like. It is easy enough for you to understand. There is something interesting in it, 

⑥Try to understand the theme. When you finish reading a book, you need to think about the characters and what the book tries to express. You'd better search for the comments(评论) on the Internet, so as to understand the book better. 

How time flies! I will go to senior high school in September. I  (出席) my graduation ceremony this afternoon. I was deeply moved by Mr Li' s  (讲演). First of all, he congratulated us on our graduation. Second, he told us to be thankful to the people who gave us  (好意). Third, he advised us not to be  (害怕的) of the challenges ahead of us, to be responsible for our own decisions and actions and to (打算) to make use of our time. Don't be  (失望的).

⑤When we finally finished our alumni books, we were all so happy with the results. We had created something that would help us remember our time in junior high for years to come.

When I graduated from college and moved to Washington D. C. in 

2017. To cure my loneliness, Imade meals at home. And I always shared food with new friends. Because my food was pretty good, everyone liked me for the recipe(食谱). Then I started my cooking blog in 2019. 

As a little girl, I sat and watched Mum cook. I spent most of my childhood in the kitchen. Since then, I have been interested in cooking. Before I could learn my mum's best dishes, I left for France to go to school in 2015.

At first, my blog was just a space for me to put what I had learned into writing. I didn't want the secret and dishes like my mum's noodles and my dad's tomato soup to disappear. I wanted to write down every piece of advice I was given in detail. These days, I experiment more. I'm not as strict with myself about making the dishes as I eat them. I just use seasonal food materials as Ilike. My followers are growing and this makes me more confident in the kitchen. 

The blog also increased my confidence at work and gave me a space to write about what I love. It has connected me to new friends online. Most importantly, it makes me realise that I can mix the tradition that I've experienced and something new.

So hot water VS cold water, which one is better?

By the 1930s, the water supplies(供水) was polluted. In order to prevent people from diseases, the government suggested drinking boiled water, because they considered it a useful way to kill off bacteria(细菌). 

People at that time always boiled water and stored it in a vacuum bottle to keep it warm for the day. Even now, you can find hot water everywhere, in schools, factories and offices across the country. While for Western countries, many people died of the plague(鼠疫). They took water quality seriously from then on, so that people can drink water directly rather than boil it. 

You may also discover that Chinese people prefer hot meals. Some parents always teach their children to drink hot soup with meals, because they think mixing cold water with hot meals is really bad for the stomach, and cold water may cause digestive(消化) problems, while hot water helps digestion. 

According to the eating habits in Western countries, they prefer "raw" food, so they also prefer their water" raw". They also like hamburgers and fried food, which are all high in calories(高热量), so they need cold drinks to cool them off. 

Drinking hot or cold water also has something to do with medicine beliefs. In traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese people consider drinking hot water increases blood circulation(循环) and washes away the coldness in one's body, and thus eases pain. However, most Westerners believe that drinking hot water may weaken your body. Drinking hot water too often will make your body unable to stand water below your body temperature. ·33·九英全(W版)You may find out that there is no answer to this question. The causes are various, so don't feel strange next time you see Westerners ask for cold water, and just show your respect. 

Last Christmas Day, my grandma on my Mum's side gave me a new scooter(滑板车) as a present. It's yellow and black and there' re some lights on the wheels. I love it so much that this year I ride my scooter to school every day. I have learned lots of new 1 on my scooter.

National parks are popular with visitors. However, a handful of visitors break national park rules, which leads to them getting hurt. And they aren't the only victims(受害者)—— The environment, animals and park infrastructure(设施) often take the biggest hit. It doesn't have to be this way! You can make national parks better if you follow the rules. 

Never be close to wildlife.

 But the real problem isn't that they' ll hurt you. While it's always good to protect your personal safety in national parks, you will probably hurt the wildlife you are so curious about. You can love the wildlife without entering its space. 

Never ignore(忽视) signs.

When you get into the park, you should keep your eyes on the road and pay attention to signs. For example, don't walk on plants, keep pets off the camping ground, and keep away from the water…

National parks still have a lot of undeveloped places. That's why it's important to always be prepared. You should bring food and water with you. Even if it's a sunny, warm day, don't forget to bring clothes. 

Never leave anything.

National parks are shared spaces for all to enjoy. Don't leave empty bottles or food packages in your camping area. These things may hurt animals.

National parks protect wildlife and forests. It's our duty to follow the rules and protect national parks.

One of the greatest pleasures for me in life is going to watch a great movie at the cinema because it's a chance for me to get excited and relaxed. There's nothing better than being lost in a story unless someone decides to ruin the moment. 

Whether at a cinema or a huge theatre, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! There is an accepted way of behaving at the cinema which some people don't seem to understand. 

To start with, some people always turn_up_late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and makes a lot of noise. And what I can't stand most is people who decide to chat to their friends, sometimes not even about the movie. 

I'm not alone in this situation. Simon, a film critic(评论家) at the BBC, experienced a "new low" during a film. He says, "The woman in front of me got a mirror out, and then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!"

Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers(电影观众) should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off— the most serious offence(冒犯). 

Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the movie in the way we want to, but we mustn't forget moviegoers around us who want to enjoy the movie too. 

The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. It's your choice!
