My name is Li Fang. I used to be  shy girl. But this term, I decided to do a brave thing in public. When my teacher asked who would like to be the physics monitor(课代表)，I put up my hand and got this role. At first, I thought it was easy,  later I found that it was a little difficult.

When I spent the summer with my grandma, she sent me to the store with a list. Behind the counter(柜台) was a woman, Miss White.

Miss White just laughed. "I know what you think of me, she said. "Well, I don't care! I meet some children every day. My job is to teach every child life lessons. When you get older, you'll be glad!" Glad I met Miss White? Ha! Impossible!

Then one day my daughter came to me with her maths homework. "It's too hard, Mum, " she said. "Could you finish my maths problems for me?"

"If I do it for you, how can you learn to do it yourself?" I said. Suddenly, I was back at that store where I learned the hard way to add up the bill(账单)by myself. From then on, I've never been overcharged. 

I had a reason for being late, but it didn't  to the teacher.

The Grand Canal is  longest and oldest canal in the world. It forms a vast inland waterway system in China, running from the capital Beijing in the north  Zhejiang Province in the south.

Constructed in sections from the 5th century BCE and maintained several dynasties, it formed the backbone of China's inland communications system, which enabled the supply of rice to feed the population. The Grand Canal reached a new peak in the 13th , providing an inland shipping network consisting of more than 2,000km of artificial waterways,  linked five of the most important river basins in China, the Huanghe River and the Changjiang River. Still a major means of internal communication today, it has an important role in ensuring the prosperity (繁荣) and stability of China over the ages.

The Grand Canal bears witness to a remarkable and early development of hydraulic engineering (水利工程). It is an essential technological achievement  from before the Industrial Revolution. It is one of the  perfect examples of dealing with difficult natural conditions, as is reflected in the many constructions that  fully adapted to the diversity and complexity of circumstances. It best demonstrates the technical capabilities of Eastern civilizations.
