Should You Repeat Gossip to Others?

It is not nice to tell stories that could make someone feel bad. The information you've heard might be something the person wants to keep private. No one hopes their private things are talked about by others. So be kind to people by refusing to spread gossip. 

When Should You Tell Someone What You've Heard?

 For example, if a classmate takes unsafe ways to go to school, you need to report it. This is not gossip at all. Instead, it helps protect others' safety and shows your care.

It was a cold November in Greenwich Village. Many people there were very sick with pneumonia (肺炎) , which spread through the neighborhood, leaving weakness and fear in its wake. Sue and Johnsy lived in a small and old house. Johnsy was badly ill and lying in bed, weak and silent. She looked out at the top of the window all day, watching an old ivy vine (常春藤) climbing up the wall of the neighboring house. 

"When the last leaf falls, I shall die," Johnsy said quietly. Sue cheered her up, telling her that the leaves had little to do with her life, but Johnsy didn't listen. Her eyes were filled with sadness. 

Downstairs lived an old painter named Behrman. He was over sixty years old, with hands that had held a paintbrush for forty years, yet he had never finished a great picture. He often drank too much and talked loudly, saying something about the unfairness of the art world, but he cared for the two young artists deeply. When Sue told Behrman about Johnsy's words, he felt angry and sad. "How silly! No one should die because of falling leaves!" he shouted. That night, there was a heavy rain and a strong wind that shook the old house heavily. 

The next morning, Johnsy asked Sue to open the window. To her surprise, one green leaf still hung on the vine, bright and strong against the grey sky. It didn't fall, even when the wind blew again and again. Johnsy stared at it for a long time, and a little hope came back to her heart. 

What Johnsy didn't know was that in the middle of that terrible storm, Behrman had climbed up in the pouring rain, painted that single green leaf on the wall, to give Johnsy the hope she needed to live. He caught a bad cold that night, and died a few days later— but his work, the last leaf, saved a young girl's life, a quiet act of love that lasted through every storm.

④Another interesting reason is that dogs can "catch" yawns from people they love. That means when owners yawn, their dogs may yawn, too. This shows a close relationship between dogs and their humans. Dogs can feel our emotions and reply to them, just like close friends. 

⑤In short, dog yawning is not only a simple action but also a way to communicate with us. By paying attention to when and where dogs yawn, we can understand their health and feelings more easily. For example, if a dog yawns during play or training, it might be a sign that it feels stressed or needs a rest. In that case, stopping for a break or speaking in a gentle voice can help the dog feel safe again. Watching closely allows us to see when they are tired, nervous, or just trying to say hello. In this way, we can take good care of our friends.

"Love you, laoji" is a hot word now. "Laoji" means "the old self". Calling ourselves this way is a bit funny, but it makes us feel warm at heart. It is like talking to a good old friend — kind and caring. 

Here are some tips for you to love laoji more in the coming year. 

Take real rest. Real rest isn't sleeping all day or staying up late on your phone. That only makes you more tired. Try active rest — gentle activities that help you slow down in both the body and the mind. Feel the sunshine, go for a walk, or listen to music you like. Choose one or two small things each day to do. 

Don't try to be perfect. Waiting to be perfect often means never starting. Many people put things off because they're afraid of making mistakes. But doing something imperfect beats doing little at all. Start small. Learn as you go. The first step is important. 

Talk to yourself kindly. Pay attention to how you talk to yourself. When things go wrong, don't be hard on laoji. Try saying, "It's okay," or "I'll try again next time." Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend.

The earth is the only home to us humans and animals. 

Xian Xinghai was a famous musician in China who wrote one of the greatest pieces of music of the 20th century. He wrote nearly 300 songs and an opera during his lifetime. 

Xian was born in Macao in 1905. His father died before he was born and he led a poor life with his mother. He learned to play the violin when he was 13. At the beginning, his violin was so cheap and bad ly made that he couldn't perform well. Xian didn't stop practicing and soon showed his talents. In 1934, he was one of the first Chinese students who were sent to study in a music school in Paris. Before graduation（毕业）Xian became an excellent student who got high praise for his talents. 

In 1935, he returned to China to fight against the Japanese enemies. Later, he came to Yan' an to teach music. Although there were no pianos in Yan' an, Xian still wrote some of his most important pieces that are of great value, including The Yellow River, whose popularity continues to this day. 

In May 1940, Xian was sent to the Soviet Union（苏联）by the Chinese Communist Party（共产党）to write music for movies. In the Soviet Union, life was very hard. He had a bad cough and developed a lung（肺） illness and died in 1945. What a pity!

Xian's music encouraged millions of Chinese people. Wherever he went, his music gave people courage and strength to fight against enemies during wartime. Now it is regarded as our national treasure left for the future world to hear.

On April 19, 2026, the second Beijing E-Town Half Marathon and Humanoid Robot Half Marathon (人形机器人半程马拉松) was held successfully in Beijing. It is the world's first such event, and it has received great popularity at home and abroad  people and experts. 

More than 100 teams took  in the race. Robots were divided into two kinds: self-controlled and remote-controlled ones. Compared with last year, more teams preferred self-controlled robots,  showed the progress of robot technology. 

The 21. 0975-kilometre track was full of small hills and turning roads.It  a big challenge for robot performance. Seven service stations were built along the track to  support during the race. 

After a close competition, a robot  Lihtning won the first place. It ran steadily and set a new record. It ran far more  than most other robots.  amazing, the top three all came from the same team. 

Though some robots failed halfway, most of them  running to the finishing line. They tried their best till the end. This event shows China has made great  in the humanoid robot industry. 

During the Jin Dynasty, there was a child named Che Yin. He was smart and loved to read. He grew up in a poor family and couldn't afford lamp(灯) oil to study at night. 

One night he saw fireflies(萤火虫) outside his house and came up with  idea. He caught some fireflies in a cloth bag and hung it up as a lamp. It is said that he spent all of his summer nights (read) like this.

China Aims for First Private Space Tourism Flights by 2028

China is set to enter a new era of space exploration（探索）, with its first private manned suborbital（亚轨道的）tourism project scheduled to launch（发射）in 

2028. On January 22, a private aerospace company said that its spacecraft Chuanyuezhe-1 will carry paying tourists to the edge of space, known as the Karman Line（卡门线）. 

Among the first group of over twenty passengers is popular actor Huang ingyu. "It's a great honor to fly to space aboard a Chinese-made spaceship, " Huang said in a video announcement, adding that he will take professional training for the journey. The different list also includes respected scientist, leaders from business and technology, and even a humanoid robot. Each ticket is priced at 3 million yuan, with a 10% deposit to secure a seat. 

The Chuanyuezhe-1 is designed to carry seven people to an altitude（海拔）of 100 kilometers. During he flight, tourists will experience weightlessness for three to six minutes and enjoy breathtaking views of earth through a large window. The company states that the spacecraft's reusable "Cloud Landing System" has passed strict tests, ensuring a safe return. 

This project represents（代表）a big change. Space travel, once only a dream for the public, is becoming more accessible. While currently expensive, advances in technology promise a future where more people might look down at our planet from the stars, turning humanity's oldest dream into a real new chapter. 

Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics Opens with Historic Ceremony

On the evening of February 6 local time, the 2026 Winter Olympics officially started in Milan and Cortina d' Ampezzo, Italy. The opening ceremony made history with a special" four-city linkage" model, connecting Milan, Cortina and two other Italian cities using advanced technology. 

The ceremony, themed" Armonia"(Harmony和谐), showed Italy's rich culture and modern charm. As a world-famous fashion capital, Milan had top Italian designers create beautiful costumes for performers, mixing fashion and winter sports. The most important par was the simultaneous（同步的）lighting of two Olympic cauldrons（圣火盆）— one at Milan's iconic Arch of Peace and the other at Cortina's Piazza Dibona. The cauldrons were inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's art. They showed harmony between cities and nature. 

Many famous stars gave wonderful performances. Five-time Grammy winner Mariah Carey sang a song in Italian to loud cheers. Famous Italian singer Andrea Bocelli and Chinese pianist Lang Lang also performed, building a cultural bridge through music. 

The Chinese delegation（代表团）made history at these Games with its largest-ever overseas lineup. It had 286 members, including 126 athletes set to compete in 91 events across 7 sports. The team's average age was 25. It was led by Olympic champions like Gu Ailing and Su Yiming. Speed skater Ning Zhongyan and short track speed skater Zhang Chutong served as the flag bearers, leading the delegation to enter as the 19th team in the opening ceremony. 

The 2026 Winter Olympics will run until February 22 with 116 events in total. As the first multi-city Winter Olympics, it shows the Olympic spirit and brings different cultures together. China's full participation（参与）reflects the rapid development of its winter sports. Let's cheer for all athletes as they chase their dreams on ice and snow!

I give the white rose to my teachers who have taught me that there is no success without effort. When I started running in the 800 meters, I always finished last and I just wanted to give up. But the P. E. teacher, Ms. Huang, helped me. She ran along with me, and she said, "You only really lose if you give up!" I still can't run fast enough, but I've learned to try my best, not only with running but with whatever else I do. 

I give the yellow rose to my parents for teaching me that love is about trust. When I wanted to learn the violin, my father told me that I should work harder at math. I was disappointed. Then, on the morning of my birthday, I woke up to find a beautiful violin at my bedside. There was a note from my father, "I'm sure you will be good at music. I know that you will be better at math.

Today, we are going to talk about Wang Haoze, a member of the Shenzhou-19 crew（神舟十九号乘组）. In 2024, Wang Haoze became the third Chinese1 to travel to space. 

She was born in 1990 in Hebei Province. Her mother is a middle school teacher and her father is a policeman. 2 in a family like that, she learned the importance of working hard from an early age. 

During her time at university, she showed great3 ability, so she was always at the top of class. In addition to studying, she was also a sports lover and often took part in sports competitions. 

In 2015, Wang finished her studies and started working as a rocket engineer （工程师）in Beijing. One day, she heard about the selection（选拔 ） of4 and decided to try for it. About 2, 500 people took part in it. Finally, Wang5 all the tests and became the only woman among 18 astronauts.

CALL A FRIEND AND TALK

Last Sunday my best friend texted me to tell me that she was going to study abroad. I nearly cried.Just a text message? I sent her a short"congratulations" message with lots of emojis (表情符号).I tried to feel happy, but I didn't. For me, words and symbols on a screen are not enough. If it's important, we should talk.

Am I an old-fashioned girl? On the phone, you can hear whether a person is happy or sad,excited or disappointed. You can hear emotions(情绪). But maybe that's exactly the problem.Maybe we are scared of people's emotional reactions when we call them. Or perhaps we don't want them to hear our true feelings.

We seem to be cheerful in the social media world. Or we are excited, or shocked. Or some other strong feelings that make us use lots (yes, lots!!!) of exclamation marks. That's not real life. Some days are boring. Sometimes we might be in low spirits but a chat with a good friend on the phone would cheer us up. Try it! You don't have to talk about how terrible you' ve been feeling. Just talk. If your friend takes time for you, you' ll feel so much better after talking to him or her. And friendship is about sharing true emotions, the negative ones and the positive ones.

Just relax yourself. You misunderstand your friend. A text message can't be more convenient. You can send it anytime and anywhere. 

It matters which way to choose. If the thing is important, a simple text message can't show care between close friends. A warm call does, instead. 

Perhaps the way out is not to choose one side, but to find a middle ground. Calls,messages and emojis —— they' re there. Call me when you are free; text me when busy. 

Day and night, my phone shows me messages from my boss, workmates and friends. Why don't people call me? Anyway, I am totally on your side. 

Everyone sleeps. Good sleep helps you get enough rest and stay energetic. While you sleep,your brain processes the information it has received during the day and form memories. Also, your body does lots of repair work —— refreshing tired body parts, reducing pains and cleaning up waste in your body.

Today, people sleep for a whole night. However, diaries, books and other records from the15th to 17th centuries suggest people used to sleep differently. People would go to sleep between 9pm and 11 pm for a couple of hours. They would wake up for a while, and during this period they might read a book, visit a neighbor or do some chores. Afterwards, they would lie down for the second sleep, which lasted until morning. Researchers think it was the invention of the light bulb in 1879 that changed this. Electric lights meant people started staying up later, so when they finally went to bed, they slept until morning.

The Industrial Revolution (工业革命) also changed how people slept. Starting in the 18th century, people moved from the countryside to the city to work in the factories. People had to get up and started their job at a certain time. To make sure people didn't oversleep, knocker-uppers also known as wake-up helpers appeared. They made money by waking people up. Every morning, they would walk down the street knocking on doors or windows with sticks. As alarm clocks grew popular in the 1930s and 1940s, knocker-uppers weren't needed any more.

Today, our sleep is mainly influenced by both social pressure and electronic products. Falling asleep becomes hard and sleeping quality goes down. Put screens away 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime. Keep a comfortable bedroom temperature, avoid bright light and reduce the nearby noise.These will help you relax and wind down. If you have lots of thoughts or worries, writing them down before bedtime can help you put them aside for the night.
