A true friend your hand and touches your heart.

China is a long way from my home in England. There are many cultural (difference). I thought I would often feel homesick in China, I'm surprised to find that I usually feel right at home. I think it's because my mom is like Chinese person! Every time we see each other, the first thing she'll (sure) say is, "Did you eat?"

When I was growing up, she often told me, "What we eat isn't just food, but also the culture of this country." At that time, my mom (show) interest in world foods. She made German dishes, French dishes, and especially Chinese dishes. I still remember the days when the smell filled the room sweetness.

More interestingly, if she makes more typical (典型) English soup, it (have) a little Chinese touch. So whenever I try a dish in China like roast sweet potato (烤红薯), I'll think, wow! This is just like my mom's cooking! wonderful memories I have!

English cooking can be boring, but my mom loves mixing all kinds of spices (香料) and food together to create (delicious) taste in the world. She is always creative in making food that her family will love.

The food culture in the UK doesn't seem as big it is in China. But it was more important in our home. Food is something that brings us together and gives us joy, just as it does here in China.

Smart life in the future

Host: Good afternoon, everyone! Our guest today is Dr Li, a technology expert. Welcome to our show, Dr Li.

Dr Li: Thank you, it's an (荣幸) to be here.

Host: Dr Li, can you give us some examples about how the internet will further change our lives in the future?

Dr Li: Take health as an example. We will wear smart devices all the time and they will collect useful information. People can use it to fight (对抗) common diseases like colds and fevers. Doctors will also (受益) from it to solve our health problems.

Host: Well! So will the internet help protect the environment (环境)?

Dr Li: Good question! More things will be (连接) to the internet and our cities will become smart cities. Different devices will be really good at (沟通) with each other by sharing data (数据) . For example, smart rubbish bins won't tell the smart city network (直到) they are full. With this data, some rubbish collection factories will (明智) plan the collection.

Host: That's great! How will the smart cities influence our lives in other ways?

Dr Li: I think the biggest change will be in transport. Cars will drive themselves and share data with the smart city network, so there will be fewer traffic (事故) on the roads.

Host: That's amazing. And will this really be (可能)?

Dr Li: Yes, it will. We've already started doing some of these things!

Fiona was a popular girl at school because she was kind to everyone. She loved1 all of her classmates to her birthday party. Besides, she even sent gifts to everyone.

2, everything changed on International Day of Friendship. That day, everyone had to make three gifts to give to3 three best friends in class. Fiona enjoyed the4 of choosing three from among all her classmates. But in the end, she was5 to find that she was the only one to get no gifts! She didn't6 this and felt terrible, crying for hours. Everyone came to comfort her, but each stayed only a short time—just as she did to others.

Yollando is also known as Yanming, the Chinese name given by his teacher at the Shaolin Temple. When he was a college student in Abidjan, he learned Chinese at the Confucius Institute. In late 2016, he had the chance to visit the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province. "The spirit of martial arts (武术) of my friends touched me a lot. They set a good example for me. I truly felt sure that this was the place I had dreamed of since childhood." he says.

After going back to the Côte d'Ivoire, Yanming still wished for life at the Shaolin Temple. In July 2017, he went back to Shaolin and stayed there for six years. His years at the temple greatly changed him, and made it easier for him to understand and enjoy traditional Chinese culture. He says the most amazing things in Chinese culture are hard work, respect and kindness. "Coming to China to study made me moredisciplined and hardworking. I used to be a little lazy, but the Shaolin Temple taught me to be on time and respectful." he says.

When he finished his studies at the temple, he began working to spread (传播) Shaolin culture at a Shaolin cultural center in Zambia, the first of its kind in Africa.

In mid-2025, scientists did an online survey (调查) about kids' housework.207 kids aged 5–13 from 15 countries took part in it. The results show that girls have a higher participation rate (参与率) than boys. For example, only 49.5% of boys make their beds, but 70.1% of girls do so. Age also matters. Making a hot meal for themselves is done by 53.3% of the kids. But only 8% of 5-7-year-olds can do it, and the number goes up to 59.2% for 11-13-year-olds.

Scientists also found that housework can build children's life skills, such as executive functioning (执行功能). When those children did several things at the same time, they could do them really well. A worker said, "Housework needs organizing, planning and self-control. Usually, these skills grow in early childhood and will be important in late teenage years."

However, poor development of executive functioning can make it difficult to have the ability to plan and solve problems. They may also influence their reading skills, math abilities and other school performances in later childhood.

Nezha is a brave boy from a popular Chinese movie Nezha 2:The Devil's Fury. In the story, Nezha is born with special powers,but some people call him a "devil.(魔鬼)" He doesn't give up and fights to prove（证明） that he can be a hero.

The oil-paper umbrella (油纸伞) has a history of over 1,000 years in China. There are different 46(story) about the invention of the umbrella in China. The most popular has something to do with Lu Ban. It is said that once he and his wife visited the West Lake. It started raining suddenly. His wife said, "Let's have  competition. Before sunrise tomorrow, the person  finds a good way to visit the West Lake on rainy days will be the winners." Lu Ban  (think) it was easy. He collected some tools and materials. Then he spent the whole night building pavilions (亭子) around the lake. He was quite proud  his work.

The next morning, when Lu Ban talked about his achievements and felt proud, his wife held something unusual in her hand. It could be opened into a round shape. Lu Ban was  (surprise). He found the object which was made of silk and bamboo could be opened and closed  (easy). It was light, beautiful and easy to carry. Lu Ban said, "You win. Your invention can protect us from rain better." So the umbrella  (invent).

Later, people began to use paper, which was (cheap) than silk. To make the umbrella waterproof (防水的), people brushed a kind of oil on the surface. So the  (one) oil-paper umbrella appeared.

Fish babies in space? In a space study on zebrafish (斑马鱼)， Chinese scientists have set a new record (记录). They1 got four zebrafish to live and grow in a closed water world.

The zebrafish went to2 space station on the Shenzhou XVIII spaceship (神州十八号飞船) on April 25 2024. Since then,they 3 in a closed fish tank (鱼缸) with some plants. The fish 4 and had babies in 43 days.

AI Helper in Daily Study

Nowadays, many students use AI tools like DeepSeek to help with their studies. For example, it can check homework answers, explain math problems, even help write essays（短文）and so on. Lately, Lily, a ninth-grade student, used DeepSeek to review math questions. "It analyzes（分析）things clearly, like a patient teacher," she said.

However, some students rely too much on AI. Tom, a middle-school student, once copied an essay directly from DeepSeek without thinking. The essay used complex sentences, which was very different from Tom's usual simple writing style. When his teacher read it, she noticed some mistakes. So she became angry and said to Tom, "AI is useful, but you need to use your own brain!" Also, when solving a difficult math problem one day, DeepSeek gave two different answers. Tom felt confused until his teacher helped him explain the steps. What's more, when students use AI to write, they often miss the chance toimprove their creativity.

"Students must verify（验证） AI answers and express their own opinions." says Professor Li from Hunan Education Institute. "Use AI to learn, not to replace（代替） your efforts. Always double-check the answers and think independently."

Koalas might look like cute teddy bears, butthey are actually marsupials(有袋动物) like kangaroos.

These gray furry animals spend 18-20 hours a day sleep in gineucalyptus tree(按树）their stong claws help them hold onto branches tightly, even while sleeping.

Koalas face many challenges. Forest fires and habitat loss make it hard for them to survive. Also, koalas seldom drink water—they get most moisture from leaves. Scientists call them "climate refugees" because they struggle to adapt to hotter weather.
