The Changsha Marathon(马拉松) 2024 was held on October 20, Marathons are often seen as tests of physical and mind endurance (持久力). But for one man, the marathon was a symbol of hope and a(n) 1 of fighting on. His name was Terry Fox.

An AI app depends on a collection of information that someone has uploaded(上传)onto a computer system. A specially trained algorithm(算法)deals with the information to produce the type of writing someone might need. It may be useful for writing news reports, but it's not useful for expressing your personal thoughts and ideas.

Writing is the most difficult of all the language skills. You need to be good at grammar and have a good vocabulary. Writing also requires you to think clearly. If you read the book and write the book report by yourself, you will learn a lot and have the satisfaction of expressing your own ideas about the story. That's something AI cannot do.

The paper we know today did not appear until two thousand years ago. It was created in China. No one knows who first invented it. But history does tell us about one man who improved the process and this man was Cai Lun , who was born during the Eastern Han Dynasty.

Cai Lun often paid visits to the countryside workshops , inspired by women who raised silkworms (蚕), he used many materials to make paper, such as bark (树皮), pieces of net and pieces of used cloth. He broke these materials down into very small pieces and finally produced a kind of paper. 

In 105, Cai Lun showed his paper-making process and pieces of paper to Emperor He of Han (汉和帝). His way to make paper was strongly praised by the Emperor and it soon got popular. The paper made in this way, known as Cai Hou Paper, was used across the country. 

Today, Cai Lun is still remembered as the inventor of the paper-making process, one of the Four Great Inventions of China. He is regarded as the father of the modern paper industry. In 2007, Cai Lun was listed as one of the "Best Inventors in Recorded History" by the American Time. His paper-making process was specially shown in the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

What Do No.5 High School Students Do in Their Free Time?

Last month we asked our students about their free time activities. Our questions were about exercise, use of the Internet and watching TV. Here are the results.

We found that only fifteen percent of our students exercise every day. Forty-five percent exercise four to six times a week. Twenty percent exercise only one to three times a week. And twenty percent do not exercise at all!

We all know that many students often go online, but we were surprised that ninety percent of them use the Internet every day. The other ten percent use it at least three or four times a week. Most students use it for fun and not for homework.

The answers to our questions about watching television were also interesting. Only two percent of the students watch TV one to three times a week. Thirteen percent watch TV four to six times a week. And eighty-five percent watch TV every day! Although many students like to watch sports, game shows are the most popular.

It is good to relax by using the Internet or watching game shows, but we think the best way to relax is through exercise.它有益于身心。Exercise such as playing sports is fun, and you can spend time with your friends and family as you play together. And remember," Old habits die    hard." So start exercising before it's too late!

Mr. Horse is a hard worker. He runs between villages  towns to carry(运送) carrots.
