Nong Jiagui is a village teacher in Guangnan County,Yunnan Province. For 38 years, he has helped more than 100 students in the village learn about the world outside of their homes. The 58-year-old village teacher was named one of the 2024 National Role Models for Teaching and Educating People ahead of the year's Teachers' Day, which falls on September 10th every year.

In 1986, Nong Jiagui became the first teacher in the "leprosy (麻风) village" where people with leprosy used to live back in the 1950s. This village was very separate from the rest of the world. When Nong Jiagui first got to the village, he was welcomed by the anxious (渴望的) faces at the health centre. At first, he wanted to run away. But he knew that kids there wanted to learn things. Finally, he chose to stay and teach the kids well. He also wanted to help them get out of the village.

He named the village Luosongdi, which means "peanuts (花生)" in the Zhuang language. This was because peanuts were the main crop there. By doing this, when students started at a new school, no one connected their home address with leprosy.

After Nong arrived there, all school-age children could study in the primary school, and the village became closer to the outside world. He said, "I will continue to teach as long as one child in the village needs me."

At the beginning of 2025, a short video on the Internet touched millions of people. In the video, a high school student is carrying another student out of the classroom to a safe place immediately when he1 the tremors (震颤) from the earthquake. Everyone spoke highly of what the high school student did.

The young 2 in the video is Guo Qing. He is from Yinchuan Foreign Language Experimental School of Ningxia. The student he 3 is his classmate who became disabled because of illness. He isn't able to 4 or move by himself.

Have you eaten tanghulu? It is a Chinese , which has been popular on TikTok recently, with many people sharing videos of making it at home. We'll talk about something about tanghulu.

Tanghulu is  made of dried hawthorn berries (山楂), which look like small red apples. Street businessmen coat the hawthorn berries with sugar syrup (糖浆). This is what makes it and smooth. Served on a stick, it  a popular hit in Chinese street markets. Couples on a date, children or teenagers looking for a treat will enjoy this fruit snack. Strawberry tanghulu is another popular  among people. And other fruits like , blueberries, apples, and even pineapples can be used to make tanghulu as well.

Although tanghulu is made of fruits, it is certainly not the  snack in China. For example, if you eat 20 candied fruits, you will get about 400 calories, equivalent (等同于) to a cheeseburger. While the fruits can   Vitamin C, the sugar coating can lead to tooth decay (蛀牙) if you eat it too often.

Historical records show that tanghulu is from Northern China. As a traditional Chinese snack, tanghulu has a long  dating back to the Song Dynasty. Many stories talk about how it started. One of them says that a woman was too ill to eat anything  a doctor suggested coating dried fruit with sugar. Whatever the truth, tanghulu becomes very popular. You can see it in theaters, streets, and tea houses.

"Troublemaker" was what was given to my friend Peter by his classmates. They also said that he had no future and no hope! But now I suggest that anyone said that should say "sorry" to him.

Peter finished Grade Nine, and then he went on to study at technical college. He became a leader of a group of bad boys. After graduation he had nothing to do, so he just hung around by the market with his friends.

It looked like nothing could change his life. It was not until the day that his father died. He left the boys and went to help his mother who sold food by the roadside.

He really pitied his mum and wanted to do something to support her. He loved reading cartoon books and had been collecting them for years. So he made up his mind to set up his own business. He went around buying cartoon books from other people. He bought them for 25% and then sold them for half price.

These days, he doesn't have to look round for cartoon books because there are always people coming to his shop to sell the old ones. He now has a monthly income of about 55000 baht (泰铢).

He was a "troublemaker" to his teacher but he is a hero to me. If you are judged by your classmates as "bad student", I suggest that you ignore (忽视) what they say. Just do your best in everything. Don't give up so easily. Believe me, one day you could be successful, too.

Have you ever walked into a room and realized you couldn't remember what you were looking for? We seem to do this more when thinking about a few things at once or doing two things at the same time. For example, you're crossing the street while chatting with a friend.Some people call this dual-tasking. Everyone does it and we tend to get better at it as we get older and learn new skills.

Our brain is like a computer—it can only use so much energy at one time. Think of your brain as a power station providing electricity for cities. If some cities need a lot of energy by having all their lights on, other cities would have less power to work with. There's only so much electricity to go around.

For young kids, dual-tasking is possible. However, it can be a little more difficult for younger kids compared with older kids. Why? The power station in their brain is smaller and can't produce as much energy as older kids.

So why do you sometimes forget to say something before speaking? The answer is that you were likely dual-tasking just before speaking. Maybe you were thinking about the words you wanted to say and something else at the same time. Sometimes your brain can't do two complicated things at once. You may not have enough energy at that moment.

Forgetting things is normal for everyone and can happen when you're doing too many things. When it happens to you, don't be nervous!

On December 18, 2023, 90-year-old Mao Shihua passed away, leaving many people heartbroken.

For 27 years, Mao served the residents (居民) of Huangtankou town in Quzhou, Zhejiang, by selling breakfast daily from her stall (摊位) near the Huangtankou Primary School.

Known as the "Breakfast Grandma", she started preparing food at 2 a.m. and sold it from 5:30 a.m, Mao would ride a three-wheeler to her stall to sell the breakfast and there she would stay till 7:30 a.m. Her breakfast was delicious and cheap, with each item costing just half a yuan and the price never went up. Despite her hard work, she only made about 50 yuan a day and sometimes had to use her pension (退休金) to cover the costs.

However, Mao didn't care. She wanted to spend her pension providing a delicious breakfast for the kids. She found great pleasure in hearing the sound of the children and reading aloud in the classrooms. The children's greetings every morning gave her joy, and the hours she spent serving food to them was the happiest time of the day.

Mao loved children and wanted to make sure none of them went hungry. Many of her customers were from poor families. They left their homes very early to reach school on time. Although the work was tiring, the love from her customers kept her going. Online, many people expressed respect for Mao, calling her an "amazing hero".

Liang Sicheng was the son of Liang Qichao, one of the famous thinkers in the early 20th century. But he made a name for himself. He is known as "the father of modern Chinese architecture (建筑)".

Born into a well-educated family, Liang studied architecture in the United State. But he had a strong interest in Chinese architecture. He returned to China in 1928. With his wife Lin Huiyin, he led the study of ancient Chinese architecture by visiting the buildings in person and making careful records. In the 1930s and 1940s, they checked more than 2,700 traditional buildings across the country. They drew paintings of these buildings to help people better learn about them.

His most important discovery was finding the Foguang Temple in Shanxi Province in 1937. This proved that China still had ancient wooden buildings from the Tang Dynasty. During the war against Japan, he kept working in difficult conditions and wrote China's first complete history of architecture. His book A Picture Book of Chinese Architecture is still very important today.

Liang also helped young Chinese people get the chance to learn about architecture. He founded the architecture departments (院系) at Northeast University and Tsinghua University.

Today, Liang is remembered through his books and the architecture departments that he founded. His idea that "old buildings are the heart of a country" still guides how we protect our cultural heritage (遗产).

The goal of most cheats is to steal money and personal information. They may also try to get you to download some kind of app. But that app is likely to contain malware, a computer program that will do harm to your mobile phone. Not only that, but some malware can also steal your information and take control of your mobile phone.

It's reported that over 3.5 million smishing texts are sent out every day. But the cheats have no power over you unless they can get you to trust them. Some cheats even do research on victims (受骗者) so that they can sound more real.

If you check your message and can't make sure whether it's safe, ask yourself these questions: Was I expecting this message? Is there any way for me to find out who the sender is? Don't join the millions of people who lose big from smishing every year. Stop and think before you click that link.

When Emma woke up, she didn't feel very well. She had a serious headache. Although she wanted to have a rest, she had to force herself out of bed and get ready for work. Then she hurried to take an umbrella and rushed out into the pouring rain. As she walked, she fought against the bad weather. Emma's umbrella was almost useless as it was raining cats and dogs. To make things worse, the wind blew it inside out. She was immediately wet through. "What a terrible day!" she held back her tears and said to herself.

I first became interested in calligraphy(书法) when my mum took me to a museum. The beautiful pieces of writing there were so shining that I (touch) by them at once. Idecided to try it (I) the very same way.

So, I took part in a calligraphy class. At first, I found it quite challenging. Holding the soft brush (correct) and controlling the ink(墨水) seemed difficult.  , with practice and patience, I got improved.
