The Little New Year，or Xiaonian in Chinese，often comes about a week before the Spring Festival.In northern China，people traditionally celebrate it on the twenty-third day of the（twelve） lunar month（阴历）.But in southern China，it（usual） falls on the twenty-fourth. 

Xiaonian is also called the Kitchen God Festival.One story says that the Kitchen God was a man named Zhang Shan.He was rich but he left his wifemarried（娶） another woman.However，his new wife used up（they） money.Then he became a beggar（乞丐）.When he was begging，only his first wife gave him food. 

It（make） him so sorry that he ended his life in the kitchen.Later，he became the Kitchen God. 

One（importance） tradition of the festival is to burn a paper picture of the Kitchen God.Families think this can send him to heaven（天庭）.There he reports on all families（activity） over the past year.Later，people will put upnew picture of him to welcome him back.They hope the Kitchen God will watch over the family for another year.

Scientists have found 30 unusual new kinds of animals deep in the Southern Ocean around Antarctica.This ocean is hard to study because it's far away and freezing.But scientists think many unknown animals live in its deep waters.

Earlier in 2025，a team used a research ship.They sent a remote-controlled robot named SuBastian to explore the sea floor.It took photos and filmed videos，and collected about 2，000 animals.

One interesting find was a round，meat-eating sponge（海绵）.Most sponges eat by cleaning small things from water.But this one has hooks（钩刺） that help it catch other animals.Because of its shape and the way it hunts，scientists named it the "death-ball"sponge.It was found 3.6 kilometres under the sea.

The team also found"zombie worms"（僵尸蠕虫）.They eat the soft part inside dead whales.Scientists found some new sea stars and worms too，even in hot places on the ocean floor.

In fact，it takes many years to name a new species（物种）.This team is working faster by asking top scientists to work together.So far，they have studied only 30% of the collected animals.They hope to find 10，000 new species in the next ten years.

At the 2025 National Games，16-year-old Chen Yujie won the gold medal（金牌）in the women's100-metre race on17 November.Finishing in 11.10 seconds，she broke the Asian U18 record（记录）.Her success didn't stop there—just two days later，she won the 200-metre race.

Chen comes from Ningbo and grew up in a sports-loving family.Interestingly，she first played tennis in Grade 5.At that time，she didn't find out she was good at track and field（田径）.Her early training（训练） wasn't easy，but she never gave up.She practised hard every day，trying to improve her skills.Her hard work first brought her success in 2023 when she won first place in a world race for young runners.Now she has shown that she can compete with and even do better than famous adult runners.
