Jiang Shumei from Heilongjiang Province learned the first Chinese character (汉字) at the age of 59. Now, at the age of 87, she is a writer of 6 books.

Born in 1937, Jiang spent most of her life making a living in a brick (砖) factory. She learned the first Chinese character after her husband died. To comfort her sad mum, Jiang's daughter Zhang Ailing suggested that she should learn to read to draw her attention away from loneliness.

As Jiang learned enough characters, the daughter started giving her famous works to read. Influenced by the books, Jiang told her daughter that she wished to share her own stories with a pen. Then, she began to put pen to paper at the age of 75.

It was not easy. Sometimes completing one sentence would take a day. As a writer and a college teacher, the daughter gave her mother encouragement and help. In 2013, Zhang first published her mother's stories on social media. Soon her writer friends were interested in the stories. Therefore, the mother and daughter decided to publish them to attract (吸引) more people.

The first book, Time of Trouble, Time of Poverty, came out later that year. With the book, Jiang got lots of fans.

Now, when Jiang is free, she is also learning painting and calligraphy (书法). Her dream is to have her own art show at the age of 90. She said, "It is never too late. The secret is not to be lazy."

Have you ever seen a colorful rainbow in the sky after it rains? That happens when the sunlight goes through the water in the air. The sun shines again after rain, and you see red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple light in the sky — a rainbow.

The sun's light is actually made of many colors that don't all move the same way. When this light goes into a raindrop (雨滴), it bends (弯曲) and separates into all these colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple.

After that, these colors hit the back inside of the raindrop and bounce (反弹) back. This makes them bend again and spread out, making a shape like part of a circle, which is the rainbow we see. Purple bends a lot, but red not so much.

So, why do rainbows look like a curve? It's because the raindrops are not all the same distance from us. They make a circle shape around a line from the sun to our eyes, creating that curve.

Stand with your back to the sun, because a rainbow appears opposite the sun. If the sun is too high, no rainbow can appear. But sometimes, you might even see two rainbows at once! That's when the sunlight bounces twice inside the raindrops.

Next time you see a rainbow, remember it's just the sun and rain working together to make something really special and pretty in the sky.

Explore theSurroundings

No need to be in a forest to explore nature. Start at the areas around you, for example, look at the corners of your backyard, types of trees and leaves from the green. You might be amazed at how much wildness you can find in it!

Catch a Bug (虫子)

You can let the kids use a small container (容器) or bag to collect bugs. After the bug hunting, you can watch the tiny insects and know about them, and then set them free into the wild!

Plant a Flower

Start by digging a hole and exploring what's under the soil. If your child is able for it, give him his own shovel (铲子) and watch him go to work. As your child starts digging, ask him what he can see. After the hole and the exploring part, let him plant a flower, and remind him to look after it every day.

Collect Leaves & Explore

Autumn is the best season for it! Collect all the different kinds of leaves, and discuss about the colors, texture (纹理) and shapes. Look carefully and draw what you see. You and your child can imagine you are scientists, observing (观察) and writing down what you see. Hope you will enjoy it!

Last summer, I joined a community volunteer program to help clean up the local river. At first, I felt1 because I had never had such an experience before. Our team leader, Mr. Wilson, handed each of us gloves and a rubbish picker, saying, "Every small action 2 a big difference."

Travelling always brings me new experiences.

Wang Chuqin, a table tennis player, played against Harimoto Tomokazu in the men's singles final at the 2023 ITTF Finals in Doha, Qatar.

In the past, Wang failed in some important games,  he never gives up. In fact, he works harder in  daily training, both on and off the table. He also spends more time  skills in every way.

Thanks to the support  his coaches and fans, he became more experienced. He was  by their trust and support. As a result, he feels more confident now and he can also stay  and deal with stress better. In every match, he always stays brave and plays very well.

He  the match with a 4-0 score and a big victory that many fans had been waiting for.

It has been one of the most important  in his men's singles career (生涯) so far and a moment he would never forget.

"I hope I can keep this good record in the future and bring more prizes for my . I've worked hard for this moment, and it feels amazing." Wang said  in an interview after the game.

Wang's fighting spirit helps him win. He shows us that never giving up is the key to success.

Three pairs of eyes all looked at the tickets in Dad's hand. But there were only two tickets to the big basketball game.

Marcus asked, "Only two tickets? But, Dad, who can go with you?"

"Yeah, Daddy, who can go?" Caleb repeated.

"Dad, can't you get more tickets?" I asked.

"I'm afraid not," Dad said. "Mr. Williams gave them to me. I'll choose one of you in a right way by tomorrow morning."

The next morning, Marcus asked, "Where's Dad?"

"He went to the library with Mum," Caleb said. "And he said we should start housework after breakfast."

"Housework? He must be joking," Marcus said, shaking his head. "I'm going to read about tonight's game in the newspaper."

That evening, a father and his daughter cheered for their team. It was a lesson about duty, choices, and how small actions show true responsibility.

In recent years, China has introduced a great trade-in policy (政策) which has truly changed our lives a lot. The trade-in policy was made to encourage people to trade in old products for new ones.

This policy allows people to trade in their old things, like old TVs, mobile phones or cars, for new ones. Besides these, toilets, sofas, lamps are allowed to be traded in. Of course, there are also some products that are not covered by the policy, such as old clothes, old tables and other old products that do not meet environmental protection standards.

The government offers help to encourage people to buy better things in this way. For example, in the car market, if you have an old car and want a new electric car or other kinds, the government can help you pay less money.

The benefits of this policy are clear. For us, it gives us the chance to use nicer and more modern products. It also helps us protect the environment because the old things we trade can be recycled well. For businesses, more people will come to buy products because of the good trade-in policy. So the businessmen can sell more products and make more money.

China's trade-in policy brings a better life for everyone. It's really a win-win policy.

Colin is a weak boy who stays in bed all day. He thinks he will die young. However, his friends, Dickon and Mary, believe he will get well if he goes out for fresh air and sunshine. The doctor also thinks so.

One day, Mary finds a secret garden behind a wall. It's a deserted garden that nobody uses it for a long time. The plants are dead, the soil is dry, and broken chairs lie everywhere. Mary and Dickon decide to fix it. They ask for help from Ben, an old gardener who looks serious but is actually kind. Together, they clean the grass, plant new seeds (种子), and water them every day. Slowly, green leaves appear.

The three friends want Colin to see the garden. They push his wheelchair through the garden roads. The air smells like flowers, the sun feels warm, and birds sing in the trees. Colin touches a soft pink flower and smiles. "Maybe I can get better." he says quietly.

Weeks later, the garden is full of life. Dickon says to Colin, "Try to stand! The ground will support you." Colin holds Dickon's arm. He shakes but slowly stands up. "Look! I'm standing! I'm not sick anymore!" he shouts. Mary laughs and looks at him with joy, and Ben says with tears, "It's like magic!"

From that day, Colin plays in the garden every day, running and laughing like a normal boy.

Recently, I had a hard time working on a group project. My teacher asked me to work with three classmates, but they didn't care about whether the work could be done. I had no1 about what to do at all.
