We all enjoy being part of a group—— there's no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I disagree.Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It's much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier.

Personalities(个性) can make teamwork difficult. There's often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest.Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Combine(结合) several challenging personality types,and it's even harder.

Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together, and lots of it.

A final reason why teamwork is difficult is that there's often no training on how to work on a team. You can't just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren't just given a ball and told to play. They should practice and train.

Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges too. When my computer doesn't work, I don't have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don't have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don't get me wrong—I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that's useful information—because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.

Glass skyscrapers(摩天大楼) stand tall over our cities. They are mostly good looking, reflecting the white clouds and the sky. But that's exactly what may lead to some birds' death.

When flying in the sky, birds don't have the ability to tell the sky reflected in the glass from the true sky, so they just fly direct into the glass and finally die or get badly hurt. It was reported that nearly 300 birds died after crashing(撞) into the Tower of the World Trade Centre towers in New York City from September13th to 14th,2021. "I was totally shocked," said Melissa Breyer, a bird lover, to the New York Post. "It was like a nightmare(噩梦)." Melissa volunteers in the Audubon Society, an organization for bird lovers.

Scientists guess that each year, up to one million birds collide(碰撞) with glass in the US and many of them die. But this isn't just a problem in the US.

"The situation is shocking too in China," said Li Binbin, who works at Environmental Sciences of Duke Kunshan University in Jiangsu. Now, Li is leading China's first research team for bird deaths caused by collision.

If it is such a big problem, why don't we often hear about it? CGTN said cleaners quickly sweep dead birds up and some other animals eat them, too. Li said her team found it difficult to collect data about this problem in China, let alone announce it to society. As a result, nobody feels the need to make buildings more bird-friendly. Lawmakers or real-estate developers (房地产开发商) don't think much of bird collision.

"Before humans built glass buildings, birds had the freedom to fly safely. Because we humans are the ones who led to the problem, we should find ways to help keep birds safe," said Liao Shuyue, a student volunteer with the Duke Kunshan program. Hopefully, this call will be heard by more people.

Why Can't People Touching Museum Exhibits(展品)

When visiting the British Museum, you can see visitors touch ancient bowls even though the museum rules say no touching is allowed. Museum guards say it's impossible to stop people from breaking the no-touch rule.

Most museum-going is still a mainly visual(视觉的) experience for visitors to admire the artworks. But over the past few years, more and more museums have been working to include additional senses, like sounds and smells. But touch, especially, is only allowed in certain areas, like the Louvre's Touch Gallery, or the British Museum's Hands On Desks.

 Before there were museums, there were curiosity(好奇) rooms filled with a collection of interesting objects from around the world. When people visited the collection, the objects were passed around. Museums continued with this spirit of openness at first.

But as museums grew, the spirit no longer existed. When you've got 4 million visitors a year, you can hardly have everybody touching something. Sometimes people are likely to damage(损坏) the artworks. So the rule against touching artworks makes great sense. Smaller museums still sometimes encourage visitors to touch their objects

Why are we so unwilling to keep our hands to ourselves? Some people just want to make sure the artworks are real. But there's a larger truth. Visitors say that they want to feel how deep an engraving(雕刻) goes so as to better understand the artistic skills. In this way, touching is part of trying to somehow make contact with the past.

A few days ago, Bruce was back home from work and found some writing on the low wall of a house he was walking by. It said, "Happiness is not something you experience. It's something you remember." He was terrible that day and reading it brightened his day a bit. Standing in  for a while, he also wrote one of his favorite sayings down.

The next day Bruce passed by the wall again, he noticed a new saying beside his in the handwriting as the first one. He   a new one. And they kept "communicating" this way for a long time.

One day, he was writing on the wall and the old lady  was an unfriendly neighbor and the owner of the house saw him. She stepped out. Bruce was afraid and ran away at once. She glanced(瞥一眼) at him and then read the words on the wall. Without saying anything to him, she said something toand then moved back inside slowly. Bruce was a little worried for a while, afraid to go back to the wall, but when he  , he found two words in  different handwriting, "Thank you." Two days later, Bruce saw the old lady sitting in her yard. Warmly, she greeted Bruce and told him how these words had her and how thankful she was to see the young still stick to some  of life.

"We become friends now and I have often been  to her house for a cup of tea," said Bruce. "This experience has changed my life. Maybe I will never know who wrote that very first saying, but if he is out there, I'll say ‘thanks' to that  friend."

Most people love animals. Many children's books use animals as the main characters. Many people keep animals as pets. The love for animals may be why both children and adults enjoy going to zoos.

In the past, zoos were usually started by rich people. The first zoo was started by a queen in Egypt in 1500 BC. Raising animals was a way for people to show they were powerful. Sadly, the animals in the early zoos were not treated well. They didn't receive enough attention or care.

Today, zoos still bring people pleasure, but they try to protect animals. Zoos must follow rules. People must provide animals with a clean place to live in, food and water, and health care. The rules help protect the animals.

Some people think the rules are not enough. They want to do more to protect the animals they love. For example, people disapproved of the use of some large animals in shows. They thought the zoos didn't have enough space for the animals to show. They also thought the animals were not treated properly. With so many people against the shows, the zoos decided to make a change.

People see animals in zoos. At the same time, they try to learn how to protect them. Both people and animals can get a lot from each other.

Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August 2022, driver-less taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.

Why do we develop self-driving cars?

Self-driving cars bring us lots of good. They use computers to sense the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer traffic jams and better parking of cars. For disabled or blind people,self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily.

According to official reports, each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world, and more are hurt. It's reported that self-driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money. The main cause of car accidents is human error(错误). By using computers, self-driving cars don't make poor decisions or lose focus like humans do.

But self-driving cars aren't perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can't react(反应) as fast as a human driver could. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars wouldn't see the lines on the road easily. It might lead to an accident. The car's computer system would be broken by someone, causing it to crash or change its direction.

"It's clear that there is still a long way to go to make self-driving cars a common and safe sight(景象) on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen," said China Daily.

Smart homes are becoming more and more popular these days. What is a smart home? A smart home is a living space with advanced technology. It allows you to control different devices(装置) in your home by just tapping on your smart phone—whether you're at home or on your way to work.

Smart homes include smart devices and systems, such as locks, fridges, bulbs, washing machines and so on. You may wonder how they work. Smart speakers help people live an easy life by playing music or answering questions with voice. Smart lighting system can be controlled remotely(远地地) according to your schedule. Smart fridges might suggest recipes and even order food you need. All these devices work together as one to make your home smarter and your life easier.

What are the advantages of a smart home? Firstly, it is convenient. You can control your home with smart phones or voice. Secondly, it helps to avoid the unnecessary waste, so it possibly benefits the environment. Thirdly, if anything unusual happens around your home, the systems may begin to work to protect you and your home immediately.

However, it may not be suitable for everybody. Smart devices are typically more expensive than the traditional ones. What's more, smart home systems rely on connectivity and data (数据) collection, so privacy concerns (隐私关注) may arise.

Each coin has two sides, so do smart homes. It's up to you to design your own living environment.
