In the past, connecting (与……有联系) with friends meant spending time with them in person (亲自). But now it is different.

With the development (发展) of technology, people's lives have changed a lot. Today, more young people like to connect with their friends online better. They think it is a good way to connect with their friends. However, some people think that connecting with friends online may make them lose their real-world friendships (友谊). Do you agree with it? Here are some ideas.

According to experts (专家), connecting with friends online is not enough to build true friendships. Spending time together face-to-face is quite important, especially when people are in trouble. During hard times, people don't need someone who likes their pictures or posts on social media. What they really need is someone who can offer them help.

In the past, students usually spent their summer vacation helping their parents do housework. There was more than one child in one family, so the older brothers or sisters usually had to take care of the younger brothers or sisters because their parents had to go to work and had no time to look after them. Usually, students had a little homework, so they didn't have much stress (压力). Some students in the countryside often went to climb the mountains, swam or went fishing with their friends during their summer vacation, but they hardly ever went far away.

Things are different now. Students have better living conditions now, and they don't have to do much housework. Most parents often take their children to visit some big cities or go sightseeing. Students can go to many places of great interest, They can also visit their relatives far from them. They can easily take a bus or a high-speed train or even a plane. Most families can afford (负担得起) it. I think students today can enjoy themselves and they are luckier.

For 13-year-old Li Mei, her home is sweet because of her family. Every evening, her family sit in the living room together—her dad reads newspapers, her mom watches TV, and she does her homework. Sometimes, they play "treasure hunt" games—her mom hides small gifts (like biscuits or pencils) and Li Mei and her brother look for them. "It's fun. We always laugh a lot." Li Mei says.

For 14-year-old Tom, his home is sweet because of his bedroom. He decorated it himself—he put up posters of his favorite football players on the walls, and made paper-cuts with his grandma's help. "My bedroom is my favorite place. I can listen to music, read books or just relax there." Tom says.

For Mrs. Wang, a neighbor of Li Mei, her home is sweet because of the community. Every Saturday morning, she and her friends clean up the community together. They also help old people carry their shopping bags. "We are like a big family. Everyone helps each other." Mrs. Wang says.

No matter what your home is like, it's the people and the love inside that make it "sweet home".

People in Beijing often cook them with meat and vegetables. Each month has different vegetables, so you can eat different kinds of them. Zhajiang noodles are a good choice for you when you don't have a lot of time to eat. This kind of noodles is usually ready only one minute after you order it.

Tuckahoe pie (茯苓夹饼)

Tuckahoe pie is a really nice pancake with sugar inside of it. Tuckahoe pie comes from Beijing. Tuckahoe is good for people's health, so the pie is very popular with Chinese people.

Rose loved drawing. She was so poor that she could only draw pictures in the sand with sticks (木棍). One day, old woman gave her a paintbrush and some paper.

Rose was so happy. "Hmmm, can I paint? she thought. She looked around and saw a duck. "I know I'll paint a duck."

So she did. (sudden), the duck flew off the paper and onto the lake. "Wow" she said. "How magical (I) paintbrush is."

Then the kind girl painted pictures everyone in her village. She painted a cow for the farmer, pencils for the teacher and (toy) for all the children.

The king heard about it and ordered a soldier to find Rose. "Come with me, (luck) girl" said the soldier. "The king wants you (paint) some money for him."

"But he's already rich," said Rose. "I only paint to help poor people."

But the soldier still (take) Rose to the king. "Paint me a tree with lots of money on it," he said. Rose was brave and said, "No!" the king sent her to prison (监牢) angrily. But Rose painted a key to the door and a horse to help her get out. The king ran after her. So she painted a big hole and the king fell in.

Last summer, I went on vacation with my family to a small village. The village was in the1— far away from the noisy city. We lived in a comfortable hotel with a big balcony. Every morning, I woke up to the smell of freshly cooked bread and the sound of birds singing.

On the first day, we went camping near a mountain. The2 there was amazing—green trees, clear rivers and blue sky. We played games, told jokes and3 food with each other. Cooking way:

To make daoxiao noodles, hold the dough in one hand, and use a knife in the other hand to slice the noodles into a pot of boiling water. 

Story behind the dish:

During the Yuan Dynasty, people in Shanxi couldn't use metal wares(金属制品), including knives for cooking.  They had to take turns(轮流) to use the knife when making dinner. 

One day, a wife asked her husband to borrow the knife so that she could make noodles. At the time, the knife was being used by another family. So the man had to return home and wait. On the way back, the man found a thin piece of sheet iron(一片薄铁皮). 

When he returned home, the water was boiling. The man felt worried coming back without the knife. All of a sudden, he thought of the sheet iron. 

"No, I can't, " his wife said. The man told her to slice the dough instead of cutting it. Holding the dough and the sheet iron, the wife sliced the dough into the boiling water. The moment the family took their first bite, they were surprised at how chewy(耐嚼的) the noodles were. 

How do people make daoxiao noodles? (不超过15词) 

Billy always loved blueberries. They were his favourite fruit. He was going to make juice with his uncle. His uncle liked to make juice out of everything. He made apple juice, vegetable juice, and more juices. He had never made blueberry juice before though!

First, Billy and his uncle went to a blueberry farm. They were each given a basket. They picked for an hour and got several pounds. It was hard work picking the little berries from the trees. Now Billy understood why they were expensive in the store. 

Next, they had to wash the fruit. Some of them still had leaves. Those had to be pulled off. Then the bad berries had to be thrown away. They washed the berries and made them dry. 

After that, they pushed the blueberries through a strainer(滤器). The strainer caught most of the seeds and skins, and only left a small glass of dark purple juice to them. 

When they tasted the juice, it wasn't very sweet. Billy's uncle didn't want to add sugar to the juice. It was better to use a naturally sweet juice, like apple juice, pear juice, or grape juice. They used grape juice as a sweetener(甜味剂), because grapes had a similar colour to the blueberries. 

Finally, they could drink it. It was a lot of work to make juice, but it was refreshing!

Sami's grandpa lived near the sea. Tall trees stood by the seaside. Sami loved to visit him and play the birds in the trees. For Sami, it was interesting (spend) the holiday in Grandpa's village. 

Sami couldn't believe his eyes he came to Grandpa's village this summer. Many people cut down (they) trees to make    tables, chairs and beds. Grandpa was different. He never cut down his trees. 

One night, Sami (hear) a strange sound. Suddenly, the ground shook. He got up and ran to Grandpa. "It's an earthquake" Grandpa said. They ran out of house. However, the sea began to roar(咆哮). People in the village shouted and cried while they were running away. 

The waves(海浪) were rising higher and (high).  Grandpa and Sami (climb) to the top of the house. They found water coming into their house (quick). 

Later, the wave went back. Soon it was quiet all around. After that, the villagers never cut down trees  they knew the importance of protecting trees.
