Reading is like having a superpower. It opens doors to different worlds, ideas, and experiences that we might never get to see or do in real life. 

When we read books, we enter a new universe. For example, in science-fiction books, we can travel to faraway planets, meet strange creatures, and learn about amazing technologies. In historical novels, we can walk through time, witness important events in history, and understand how people lived in the past. 

Reading also helps us become better at understanding others. When we read stories about different people, we start to see the world from their eyes. This makes us more empathetic (有同理心的). We can understand their feelings, problems, and joys, which is very important for getting along with others in our daily life. 

Moreover, reading improves our language skills. We learn new words, better sentence structures, and different ways to express our thoughts. The more we read, the better we can write and speak. 

In a word, the power of reading is huge. It broadens our minds, makes us more understanding, and helps us communicate better. So, pick up a book and start your reading journey today! 

Time passed. There was plenty of food and no work in the Southland, and White Fang was fat and happy. Except for Collie, all things went well for him. He learned how to laugh, and how to play at fighting with his master without really biting him. When his master rode his horse, White Fang went with him. He never got tired, because he ran like a wolf. 

Once, when they were out riding, his master fell from his horse and broke his leg. 

"Home! Go home!" said his master, when he understood his injury. 

White Fang didn' t want to leave him. 

"Go home and tell them what happened to me." White Fang knew the meaning of "home", though not the rest of the message. But he went. 

He ran to Scott' s wife and pulled her dress, but it tore and she was afraid and angry. He stood before Scott' s father growling (嗥叫) until he told White Fang to lie down. He looked at all their faces. 

"I think he' s trying to speak," said Scott' s daughter, Beth. 

And at that moment he started to bark—something he had never done before. 

"Something' s happened to Scott," said his wife. 

They were all on their feet now, and White Fang ran out of the house. He looked back at them using his eyes to say: "Follow me". 

After this everyone liked him even more. 

It was during White Fang' s second winter in the Santa Clara Valley that he had a strange finding. Collie' s teeth were no longer sharp. Her bites seemed more like playing than hurting. Soon White Fang started playing with her.

Oliver drew his first breath, and then announced his arrival to the rest of the workhouse by crying loudly. His mother raised her pale face and said in a weak voice, "Let me see the child, and die." 

"You must not talk about dying yet," the doctor said to her kindly. He gave her the child to hold. Lovingly, she kissed the baby on his head with her cold white lips, then fell back and died. 

"Poor dear!" said the nurse, without any expressions. 

The doctor began to put on his coat. The baby is weak and will probably have difficulties. He said, "Give him a little milk to keep him quiet." Then he looked at the dead woman. "Where did the mother come from?" 

"She was brought here last night," replied the old nurse. "She was found lying in the street. She must have walked a long way, for her shoes were worn to pieces. Where she came from, or what her name was, nobody knows." 

"The old story," the doctor said sadly, and shook his head and left. 

And so Oliver was left with only the old nurse. Without clothes, he could have been the child of a king or a beggar (乞丐). But when the woman dressed him later in yellow cotton clothes, he looked exactly what he was: an orphan in a workhouse, ready for a poor and hungry life alone.

Edward Tulane was under the sea, covered in green plants. His fine clothes were dirty and torn. The water was dark, and he felt scared in a way he had never known before. He remembered Abilene, the girl who loved him so much. He had not cared about her love before! 

Many days passed. Fish swam near his ears. Then a storm came. A fishing net caught Edward and pulled him up. An old fisherman named Lawrence found him. "Look, Nellie! A toy rabbit!" he shouted. His wife washed Edward, made him a simple dress, and called him "Susanna". Every day, Nellie talked to Edward about her sadness for her lost daughter. Edward listened and felt a new kind of sadness for her. 

But trouble came again. The couple' s daughter-in-law got angry at Edward and threw him into the trash. He lay on old food, looking at stars through plastic bags. "Why do people keep leaving me?" Edward thought. A shiny tear fell from his eye. This time, he wasn' t crying for himself —he was crying for Nellie' s broken heart.

① Journey to the Westis a classic Chinese literary work. It tells the story of Tang Sanzang and his three disciples (徒弟), Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Seng, on their journey to the West to get Buddhist scriptures. Each character has unique traits.

③ Zhu Bajie is a bit lazy and loves to eat, but he is also funny. He often makes jokes and sometimes causes small troubles. But he also helps in some ways, like carrying things. 

④ Sha Seng is very honest and hard-working. He always follows Tang Sanzang' s orders and takes care of the luggage. He is a reliable partner in the journey. 

⑤ This story not only shows their adventures but also teaches us about teamwork, courage, and perseverance (毅力). It has been loved by generations and is still popular today, adapted into many TV shows and movies.
