The idea of a smart city was suggested by US company IBM in 2010. Actually, a smart city is a city that uses digital technology, such  networks and the "Internet of things", to improve city planning, save money and resources, and make  life more convenient. 

Smart cities will allow us to save resources. By  5G networks to check the usage of water, gas and electricity, city managers can figure out  to use these resources more efficiently.  example, water and gas pipes could remind repair workers when there is a leak. Air pollution could be more closely monitored, too. 

Of course, it will take time to build the smart cities of the future. But since we've already  successful examples, it won't be long until cities join in. Tech Republic says that by 2050, about 60 percent of people worldwide will live in smart cities.

Is the Internet good or bad? It's always a hot topic. Different people have different answers. Since the Internet came into our lives, it has brought us both happiness and tears. Some things are disappearing because of the Internet. 

When people need to record something quickly, they don't look for a pen and paper.  As a result, many people often "pick up the pen but forget how to write." Maybe in a few years, pen and paper will disappear.

As people spend more time online and like to use apps to make their photos look better, real-looking photos are disappearing.  If you send a real photo on WeChat Moments, others might think it's just for fun.

The AI is free for schools and small businesses. "Now villages without internet can still use it offline," said an engineer. However, there are challenges. For example, R1 sometimes mixes up languages like French and Spanish. The team is working hard to improve it. They said, "We hope AI can connect people around the world like bridges." DeepSeek-R1 shows us that creativity and working together can change the future.

I love my digital life. I use my smartphone to do many things. Every morning, I check the news and weather apps. Then, I use a messaging app to chat with my friends. I also like to shop online for clothes and books. It's very convenient. In the evening, I watch videos or listen to music on my tablet. Sometimes, I use educational apps to learn new skills. Digital technology has made my life more interesting and convenient. However, I also know that I should not spend too much time on digital devices. I need to balance my digital life with real-life activities.

Da Vinci, Leonardo

Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian painter, inventor, musician, engineer and  (science).

Leonardo da Vinci was born in the countryside in Italy. From an early age, he  (show) great intelligence and artistic talent. As he grew older, he learnt to do many different things. His  (paint) are very famous, and one, the Mona Lisa, is perhaps the most famous painting in the world. He also had many inventions. For example, his notebooks include some  (interest) drawings of flying machines and other vehicles. 

Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs are  type of prehistoric animal. They are  (relate) to crocodiles, snakes and lizards. They are also the ancestors of today's birds. Dinosaurs first appeared around 245 million years ago. The word "dinosaur" comes from two Greek words, and it means "terrible lizard". 

Dinosaurs lived on land and walked on either two  four legs. Many dinosaurs ate plants, but some ate meat. Dinosaurs came in different sizes. Some were as small as chickens, and others were as big as ten elephants. 

Dinosaurs ruled the Earth for more than 180 million years. About 66 million years ago, dinosaurs suddenly died . Scientists are not completely sure why. However, they are learning more and more about dinosaurs by  (study) their fossils.
