People use bicycle-powered energy to run small devices (设备).such as small televisions and fans. They often use less than 100 watts per hour. However, it would be a mistake to use pedal power to run a fridge. This large machine often uses more than 700 was per hour. The electricity for these machines comes from power lines overhead or underground. 

Pedal power can be seen in schools, gyms, and homes. What a fun way to provide electricity!

March 20th is a special day. It's the International Day of Happiness! The United Nations(UN) made this day to remind everyone that being happy is important. 

 Leaders of the country wanted to know how happy its people were. So, they created the Gross National Happiness(GNH) Index(国民幸福指数) and did its first GNH survey(调查) in 2008 to measure the happiness of its people. 

Bhutan's interest in happiness caught the world's attention. Then the UN agreed in 2012 to create the International Day of Happiness.

People get joy from many things like friends, family, good health and a clean environment. 

Every year on March 20th, the World Happiness Report comes out to show what makes people happy and how happy people are in different countries around the world. 

Maher Nasser from the UN helped to make the International Day of Happiness. "I want to make every day an International Day of Happiness, " he said. 

Nasser thinks that governments can help by making their people happier and healthier. But it's not just up to governments.  For example, helping others can make us feel good about ourselves and that makes us happier. 

The International Day of Happiness is more than just a happy day. It's about making a better world together.

Each of us has dreams for our future. What makes us study and make progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream. Whether you can succeed or not depends on not only your dreams but many other things as well.

Most people have what they want and think they can realise their dreams. And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired waiting and lose a lot, they get bored. They say angrily how terrible their life is. I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula. Act is the most important thing for success and that's to take persistent(坚持不懈的)action. If you say, "I can't do it" and give up, you can never do anything valuable. However, saying"I' ll try" creates wonders. 

Let's remember that there will be difficulties in our life. We must face them bravely and solve them. Success is not something that falls down from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
