Huangping Clay Whistles: A Shining Pearl of Miao Folk Art

Have you ever heard of Huangping clay whistles? They are one of Guizhou's famous folk (tradition) handicrafts. These clay whistles have a long history, carrying the wisdom and (create) of the Miao people.

Huangping clay whistles are made of high-quality local yellow clay. The making process is all by hand. At(one), the clay is kneaded (揉捏) into different shapes. Then, it is fired with wood chips. After that, colors are added, and oil is coated on the surface to make (they) shiny. The themes of Huangping clay whistles are very different. At a meeting, Zhang asked people to pay more attention to obesity and how to manage weight. He believes that the government and society do not focus enough on this problem. "We hope to work with public charities to give help to obese patients who need to lose weight medically but can't pay for it." he said.

He also explained why people become overweight. It is mainly because they eat more energy than they run out of. In the north of China, people like to eat noodles, and in the south, they prefer rice. Both foods have carbohydrates (碳水化合物), but eating noodles can make you gain more weight. Climate (气候) also affects people in the north.
