How to improve your English pronunciation? It's a common problem for many English learners. Here are some simple and useful tips for you. 

Tip 1: Listen to English as much as possible. You can listen to English news, English songs, English movies or English programs. Try to listen to the correct pronunciation and imitate it. 

Tip 2: Read English aloud every day. When you read, pay attention to your mouth and tongue movement. You can read English texts, poems or stories. Reading aloud can help you practice your pronunciation and intonation. 

Tip 3: Use a mirror. When you speak English, look at yourself in the mirror. You can see how your mouth moves and correct your bad pronunciation habits.

How to Use Learning Strategies

Everyone wants to be a better learner. Here are two useful strategies from top students, which are also the key points of this lesson. 

First, sequencing events. When learning history, we can use time order words like "in 1990", "then" and "finally" to put historical events in sequence. For example, when learning about Lu Xun's life (from our textbook), we can arrange his experiences: born in 1881 → went to study in Japan → gave up medicine and took up writing → returned to China. This helps us remember events clearly, just like the sequencing activity in our textbook. 

Second, making connections. When reading a text about learning difficulties, we should connect it with our own experiences. If the text talks about "being under great pressure before exams" (like Xuanxuan in our textbook), think about how you dealt with pressure. Did you talk to your parents? Or did you listen to music? Making connections makes the text more meaningful and helps us understand it better. 

Besides these two strategies, we can also learn from other students: take notes carefully, search for information online when meeting problems (like Bowen), and review what we have learned regularly. All these strategies can help us become better learners. 

In September, Chengdu No. 1 Middle School in Sichuan held a special activity. Teachers asked students to share the stories of their family heirlooms (传家宝). Over 300 students took part in it, bringing their heirlooms to school and telling the stories behind them. 

One of the students, 14-year-old Song Zhengchen, shared his family's heirloom—a cassette player. His grandmother bought the player in the 1980s to listen to the news. Later, his mother used it to play music tapes. When Song was younger, his mother would often play old poems for him on the player. 

"Today, we have many new advanced music players. But we still keep it because it holds beautiful memories of my family, " Song said. 

Another student, Xiao Yao, also 14, won first prize in the activity. Her heirlooms were some food coupons (粮票) from her grandmother. These coupons were used during a time when food was scarce. In the past, families could only buy a limited amount of food each month, and even rice required a food coupon. Xiao was amazed when her grandmother told her stories about this difficult time. "My grandma wants me to be thankful for what we have today and to work hard for a better future, " Xiao explained. 

The heirloom stories shared by the students reflect the rich history and beautiful memories of their families. These items connect them to the past and remind them of the hardships their ancestors faced. Through these stories, we hope the students will carry on good family traditions, appreciate (欣赏) their family history, and continue to work hard for their future. By remembering the past, they can help build a better tomorrow for themselves, their families, and the country.

To make our city greener and raise students' awareness of environmental protection, our school will organize a tree-planting activity. Here are the details:

Time:On Saturday, March 16th. We will gather at the school gate at 8:00 a. m. and leave for the City Central Park by school bus. The activity will end at 12:00 p. m. 

Participants(参与者): All students in Grade Eight. Each class should be led by their head teacher. 

Things to prepare: 

1. Wear the school uniform and sports shoes (It will be convenient for digging holes). 

2. Bring a small bottle of water and some snacks. 

3. The school will provide saplings, shovels and gloves, so you don't need to prepare them. 

Activity process:

1. A professional gardener will give a 15-minute lecture on how to plant trees correctly at the park. 

2. Students will plant trees in groups of four. Each group will plant two saplings. 

3. After planting, write your class and names on the name tags and hang them on the saplings.

Last month, our school held a "Healthy Life Week". During this week, we did many interesting activities and learned a lot about how to 1 healthy. 

On Monday, we had a talk from a doctor. He told us about the importance of a balanced diet. "You should eat different 2 of food, " he said. "Vegetables and fruit give you vitamins. Meat and fish give you protein. And rice and bread give you energy. " He also said we should drink 3 water every day—about 6 to 8 glasses.
