Learning a Traditional Chinese Art

Traditional Chinese arts are full of cultural charm and have a long history. Once a little weed (杂草) grew in a field. There were many tall and beautiful flowers around it. Lots of bees and butterflies came to them because of their nice smells and bright colours. The little weed wasn't satisfied, because its flowers were tiny and simple.

One spring morning, three children came to play in the field. "Let's pick some flowers for our grandma!" said one. "That's a good idea!" said another. "She will love all these bright and beautiful flowers!"

"What about that one?" the youngest child said, pointing at the little weed. "Forget it!" laughed the oldest brother. "That's just a useless weed!"

Hearing this, the little weed felt even worse. "Am I really useless?" it asked itself. "Why was I put on the Earth?"

In winter, all flowers were gone, only the little weed stood alone in the field. Just at that time, it noticed some birds coming above the field. "We are hungry!" they shouted. The little weed felt sorry for the poor birds and called out to them, "Hey! Down here! I have pods (豆荚) that you can eat!"

"You're so kind!" The birds ate up the seeds (种子) in the pods thankfully. "They're delicious. We can't find anything better than what you gave us!"

This made the little weed pleased and confident. "At last, I have found out what I am good for!" the little weed said.

Chinese tea plays important role in people's daily life, both at home and abroad. Millions of people want a cup of tea at the start of their morning.

China is the homeland of tea. It's one of the tea producers in the world. It mainly six kinds of tea—green tea, black tea, oolong tea, dark tea, white tea, yellow tea, and reprocessed tea.

Drinking tea first popular in the Tang and Song Dynasties. According to the records, it probably started in the southwest of China. In Yunnan, there are still some wild tea trees that are over 1,000 years old. They are uncommon and valuable.

According to Chinese legend (传说), tea was discovered 5,000 years ago by Shen Nong. Shen Nong was the first Chinese herbal (草药) doctor. He was famous his work to help many. He tasted lots of herbs. People could have safe medicine just because of he did. He discovered tea when he traveled to high mountains and collected plants. Thanks to him, one of the world's favorite drinks was invented.

Before toothbrushes appeared, the ancient Chinese people3 their teeth with some small tree branches (树枝). About 800 years ago, people4 a kind of toothbrushes with pig hair and bamboo. Four Ways to Improve Your Children's Reading Abilities

If you don't know how to develop your children's reading abilities, don't worry.

1 Have them read aloud.

This encourages them to read slowly. In this way, they're not only seeing the words but they're hearing them! You can also take turns reading aloud.

Sun's dad died in 2023 because of a serious disease. Sun's grandma didn't know about it because her family worried it would make her too sad. They told her that her son was still in hospital far away. However, the grandma missed her son a lot and wanted to talk to him.

Last week, the students in the English Club did a survey about our "favourite app".

Last weekend, our neighborhood held a "Recycled Art" activity for its anniversary. We turned old items like plastic bottles into useful things.

Air taxis can make people's travelling faster and safer. They can help improve traffic jams, with their direct point-to-point travel. They can save time for people. The cost of taking an air taxi may be more expensive than ground transport, but the travel can be up to five times faster. With the help of the computers, the air taxis can fly safely in the sky. That is to say, the computers can plan the flight of every air taxi in advance (提前), so that they won't have any accidents in the sky.

The air taxi is also a better choice for cities. As an eco-friendly choice, it produces fewer emissions (排放) than traditional cars, improving air quality.

The air taxi has already been used in the Paris Olympics. Some people think this is a transport that will become widely used. Many companies and researchers are developing this transport and they believe air taxis will have a huge market in the coming years.

And just when I needed it, came the strength in these words "You need to lean back a little to leap further". These words came from Jessie, an old friend of mine. It turned out she was telling me not to rush—taking a short break first would help me achieve more in the end. They made me feel better rapidly and I realized what power encouraging words had.

Soft, sincere and encouraging words from friends can give you strength in hard times. They can act as the light of hope in your time of darkness. They can make you smile and help you forget your worries. Using encouraging words is an art and it is a symbol of one's "emotional intelligence".

You must have read the famous poem "Don't Quit (放弃)". It says that sometimes, things go wrong but you should not quit. A few words of encouragement can really raise one's spirits and make a difference.

Some Australian scientists put up different cards with an odd or even number of triangles (三角形). Then they trained the first group of bees to choose odd numbers, and the second group to choose even numbers. Bees got sugar water for right choices and got bitter water for wrong ones.
