"New year is coming!" In a few days, we will welcome the Chinese New Year of Yisi Snake on January29th. This new year has something special compared with other years: China's Spring Festival, was added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity(联合国教科文组织人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录) on December4th,2024. It includes all the customs of the Spring Festival that Chinese people have been celebrating for thousands of years. So far, the total number of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage on the list has come to first place in the world.

This exciting news makes the coming Spring Festival and the Gala more meaningful. We always watch the Gala on the New Year's Eve with our family. The theme of this year's gala is"Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake". And we will invite global Chinese communities to join in the New Year's Eve celebration.

On November 29th,2024, the theme pattern and the mascot came out. The idea of the theme pattern comes from one oracle bone character(甲骨文)"Si". In ancient China, this character"Si" was really like a small snake. Two"Si" are placed side by side to form the new pattern of"Yi" and"Si", which can be copied several times and never stops. It means"everything is as it should be, and there is no end to it".

Besides, the 2025 Gala named the mascot"Si Sheng Sheng". Its head shape and body are based on a silver"ruyi", a famous hand-made work. This means that good luck starts from the head. The eyebrows are based on a bronze(青铜的) snake-shape work found at the Sanxingdui Site. The main colors are a kind of special white and different kinds of green, which show that spring returns.

Chinese ancient buildings are our cultural treasure. But because most of them were made of wood, only a few remain today. Shanxi Province is a miracle(奇迹)— the four remaining wooden buildings built in Tang Dynasty can only be seen in Shanxi, and 70% remains before Song Dynasty are in Shanxi, too. What's more,over ten thousand ancient buildings from Ming and Qing Dynasties are in Shanxi. In 1937, Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin found Foguang Temple, which is the biggest wooden building from Tang Dynasty. Just because of the several expeditions(考察) in Shanxi, Liang Sicheng uncovered the secrets to the structures of Chinese ancient buildings.

For the 2025 spring school trip, we will follow the two masters' steps to pay a visit to those ancient wonders in Shanxi. Here's the schedule:

Actually, lions should be protected by humans. Animals and humans live on the same planet. When animals are losing lives, can humans be alive alone?

Some Italians have completed the first 3D-printed house made from clay. It is called TECLA, which comes from"1 " and"clay". Its founder, Mario Cucinella hopes that his design can provide a cheaper and easier way for people who can't 2 traditional housing. Cucinella believes this way can be used in different parts of the world. Using whatever local materials available, it could be especially helpful in mountain villages where expensive industrial building materials are 3 to get.
