Chilli peppers, also called chillies, are found in dishes around the world. Chillies come from the capsicum plant (辣椒属植物). They are "hot" because they contain something called capsaicin (辣椒素).

Capsaicin is very good for your health. It helps you breathe better, and it may even help keep you fit. Capsaicin makes you feel less hungry. It also makes your body burn more calories.

We can measure the heat (辣度) of chillies in units called Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The world's hottest chilli is the Carolina Reaper. It sometimes measures up to 2 million SHU!

Eating a hot chilli can be uncomfortable, but some people love to eat it. In 2009, Anandita Dutta Tamuly, a woman from Assam, India, became famous for eating chillies. She ate 51 hot peppers in just two minutes! The peppers were Nag a Jolokia ("Ghost Peppers"). They grow in Assam and are one of the hottest chillies in the world.

"I found eating chillies was a great way to stay healthy," said Tamuly. She began eating chillies when she was a child. She ate chillies when she didn't feel well. "Every time I have a cold or flu, I just eat some chillies and I feel better. To be honest, I hardly notice them now."

When we stay abroad (在国外) for long, we may feel homesick sometimes. But if we can eat a bowl of fried rice with eggs, it will make us feel as if we were at home. It's easy and quick to cook fried rice with eggs. Now I'll show you how to make it.

First, scramble (炒) the beaten eggs. Add two spoons of oil to a hot pan, and pour in the beaten eggs and stir (搅拌) quickly to break them up. Next, fry the rice. Add another spoon of oil to the pan, and then the rice. Stir until they're well mixed. Then, add the carrots, onion and mix them up. After that, add salt and white pepper, stir the mixture and remove the pan from the fire. Finally, eat it. Pour the fried rice with eggs into a bowl. I can't wait. Taste of China!

Bally Bhamra started travelling the world at the age of 60. After working for 40 years, she decided it was her time to explore. Now in her seventies, she is ready  (visit) new and exciting places and that's what she is doing.

The Broken Vase

There once was a girl named Lily who had a  (鲜艳的，聪明的) idea for a science project. She believed her project would score a perfect ten, leaving her competitors (竞争对手) at  (零). However, one day, she accidentally knocked over and broke a beautiful vase while rushing through the  (大门) at home. Looking at the broken pieces, she saw only hopeless  (洞，孔) where her success should be.

In our English class last week, our teacher showed us a video on WeChat Channels named "This Perspective-taking (换位思考) Experiment Silenced the Whole Class". This video left a 1 impression (印象) on me.

Chinese people have been celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival and enjoying mooncakes for centuries. Mooncakes have the shape of a full moon on mid-autumn night. 

There are many traditional folk stories about this festival. However, most people think that the story of Chang'e is the most touching. Chang'e was Hou Yi's beautiful wife.  Whoever drank this could live forever, and Hou Yi planned to drink it with Chang'e. However, a bad man, Feng Meng, tried to steal the medicine when Hou Yi was not home. Chang'e refused to give it to him and drank it all.  Hou Yi was so sad that he called out her name to the moon every night. One night, he found that the moon was so bright and round that he could see his wife there.  How he wished that Chang'e could come back! 

After this, people started the tradition of admiring the moon and sharing mooncakes with their families. 

How do you usually celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival? (No more than 15 words) 

In Chongqing China, a new robot named Peipei is helping take care of the elderly. Peipei works at a centre for old people. She is kind, careful, and a good listener. People there say she's a friendly helper.

Peipei is very smart. She can tell if someone is sad or not sleeping well. She says kind things to make them happy. Grandma Wang, an old woman at the centre, likes talking to Peipei. They often play games and take photos together. Peipei can even make the photos look nice! When Grandma Wang misses her granddaughter, Peipei tells her that she will give her a call soon.

Peipei's name sounds like the word "陪". It means "to keep you company". With the help of AI technology (人工智能技术), Peipei can understand people's feelings and give the elderly better care.

Taking care of the elderly is not easy. Nurses can't always be with everyone. But Peipei can be there all day and night to help. She can help old people learn about robots and new technology, too. Many of them are now curious about how robots work and want to learn more.

Besides helping at the centre, Peipei also joins group activities like singing and storytelling. She never gets tired, so she can always be there when someone needs company. Peipei can also remind people to take their medicine and drink water. She even tells fun stories to make them smile. These small things make a big difference in the lives of the elderly.

There are many old people in Chongqing. That's why the city is using robots like Peipei to help. In the future, robots like Peipei may be in more places to care for the elderly.

①Taking notes is a common but useful study skill. But if your notes are messy and unclear, you're not going to get much use out of them. Now we'll show you how to make your notes as effective (有效的) as possible.

④What your notes look like is also important. If your notes are messy and difficult to read, you will be less likely to go back to studying them. So make sure your notes are clear and easy to read. Many people like to add some colors to the notes to make the information easier to read. This is because colors make your notes look more interesting and clearer. 

⑤Having good class notes will help you to be better prepared for tests.

A beautiful woman entered the plane and looked around in search of her seat. She found her seat next to a man who had no hands. She called an air hostess (女乘务员) and said unhappily. "I won't be able to travel comfortably in this seat. I want to change my seat."

The air hostess was shocked to hear this from a woman who appeared to be beautiful. She looked around for vacant seats but didn't find any. She told the woman, "There's no vacant seat in this economy class (经济舱), but it's our responsibility (责任) to take care of our passengers. I'll go to discuss this with our leader. Please wait for a while."

After some time, the air hostess came back to the woman and said, "I'm very sorry for the trouble caused to you. On this plane, only one seat is vacant and it's in the business class. I discussed it with the leader and we have made a great decision—a person from this economy class will be allowed to travel in the business class."

The woman was very excited. But before she could say something, the air hostess moved towards the man and asked him, "Sir, will you please go to the business class? We don't want you to feel uncomfortable traveling with an impolite passenger." Hearing this, some passengers welcomed this decision by clapping (鼓掌). 

The man stood up and said, "I was once a policeman and I lost my hands when fighting against some bad people. Thank you for your kindness."
