Do you know what family instructions (家il) are? They are common beliefs (信念) that family members follow, In ancient China, people passed down their family instructions from generation (一代) to generation. Some schools in Zhejiang are encouraging students to learn more about their own family instructions. It is a part of'students' winter vacation homework to learn about their family instructions.
Mèng Yao, 16, from Hangzhou Xuejun High School, looked at her family instructions. One of them is "don'take the wrong way", a piece of advice that has been passed down for 100 years. Her father told her how her grandfather stuck to (坚持) his "right way" to become an engineer. "It inspired (激励) me to go after what I love, she said. This family instruction not only gives her courage for her future but also helps her see her family's values.

Some students are writing e-mails to Sally. They want to invite her to join them.
Dear Sally,
The opening of my parents' coffee shop will be on December 1st, the day after tomorrow. Would you like to come? The opening will start at 9: 30 a. m. and finish at 11: 30 a. m. The shop is at No. 12 South Street. On that day, there will be different kinds of cakes at our shop. We will be glad to have you as one of our guests to taste the cakes and give us some advice. My cousin, Leo, is going to come to the opening, too. He is good at playing the guitar.
Write to me soon.
Yours,
Kate
Dear Sally,
I'm planning a surprise party for Sam and I would like to invite you to join it. As you know, Sam is very friendly and he is always ready to help anyone in our class with their homework. However, he is going to leave for London next month and we are going to miss him. If you are interested in the idea about the party, please join us after school at Room 401 of the art building on December 5th.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Betty
