Sir Charles Baskerville died. His sudden death (死亡) made everybody s because he was a nice man and made many friends when he was at Baskerville Hall.

Mr. Barrymore, the butler (男管家), said that Sir Charles was sad and worried these days. He told Barrymore that he was p to go back to London the next day. Then, he went for his evening walk as u. He did not come b, and at midnight, Barrymore went to look for him. He f Sir Charles's footprints (脚印) until he found his master's body on the moor.

A man called Murphy was on the moor at the time and said that he h shouting, but he was drunk (喝醉的) at the time and no one would b what he said.

The report said that Sir Charles had a w heart and died of a heart attack (心脏病). And this made it clear that the stories of a huge hound should not be believed.

"Do you know anything more?" said Holmes when Dr. Mortimer had finished.

"Yes. Sir Charles would never go out onto the moor at night b he was afraid of being hurt. He asked me a few times if I heard a hound barking at night, but I never had. I was there within an hour when he died. Barrymore said that he saw n else, but I did. I saw the footprints of a hound, Mr. Holmes."

The days pass. Dorothy works very hard in the kitchen. She remembers Uncle Henry and Aunt Em in Kansas. She remembers her friends the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. She's very sad and she often cries. At night she goes to see the Lion. The Witch doesn't give him anything to eat or drink so Dorothy takes him food and water from the kitchen. Then she lies down next to him, puts her head on his warm body and sleeps until the morning. 

The Witch watches Dorothy all the time. She's waiting for the right moment to take the silver shoes. Dorothy wears them all the time. She loves them. The only time she takes them off is when she has a bath. The Witch doesn't like water so she's afraid to go near the girl when she's in the bath.

One day Dorothy is cleaning the kitchen and she slips on the wet floor. She falls over and one of the silver shoes comes off. The Witch is watching. She picks it up quickly and puts it on. 

"Give me back my shoe!" Dorothy says.

"No! It's my shoe now," the Witch replies. 

"You're a wicked woman!" Dorothy shouts. "I want my shoe!"

There's a bucket of water near the door. The girl picks it up and throws the water over the Witch.

"Aarrgh!" the Witch cries. "Water is the end of me!" And she starts to disappear in front of Dorothy's eyes. 

"I'm going," she says. "Going, going, going."

Traditionally, people think eating out as a social activity, and many think it strange to eat by oneself. However, these years, the stigma (羞耻) around eating alone has become weeker in countries like the US and Germany.

According to OpenTable, a restaurant reservation (预定) platform, solo dining (一人食) reservations in the US have gone up by 29 percent over the last two years. In Germany, they've risen by 18 percent this year and in the UK by 14 percent.

Why is this happening? One reason is that more people live alone. Another reason is that people want more "me time" to relax and enjoy themselves. OpenTable CEO Debby Soo told AP that solo dining is part of a bigger fashion of taking care of yourself and enjoying your own company (陪伴).

Some people think eating alone is a good thing. Jay Rayner, a restaurant critic, says eating alone is not a niché activity any more. Instead, it can be a popular joy. You can enjoy your food and drink without sharing or worrying about others. "A great plate of food, a good bottle of wine you don't have to share," he said.

But in some countries, like South Korea (韩国), eating alone was once thought not good. South Koreans usually eat with friends or family. Eating alone might make others think you don't belong to a social group. However, even in South Korea, more people are starting to accept (接受) eating alone as a common thing.

Some people might find it uncomfortable to eat alone because of strange looks from other diners and waiters. But the important thing is that eating alone isn't sad. It can be fun and relaxing. As Rayner said, "When I eat alone, I'm here to enjoy my time and my own thoughts. I'm here for some great things to eat and drink. That's all."

The next two days it rained and it was very windy, so Mary couldn't go outside. Then on the third morning when she opened her eyes and looked out of the window, she had a big surprise. She called to Martha "Martha! Come and look at the moor!(荒原)"

There was no wind or rain and the sky was quite blue.

"Yes," said Martha with a smile "The spring's coming."

After breakfast Martha went to visit her mother for the day. Mary felt lonely in the house without her, so she went outside into the bright sunshine. She ran round and round the fountain ten times and soon she started to feel better. Ben Weather staff was in the vegetable garden. He didn't look angry that day so she went to speak to him.

"The spring's coming", he said to her. "Can you see those green points in the earth?" Mary looked. "What are they?"she asked.

"They're spring flowers." Then the robin appeared and sat on the ground near them.

"Is spring coming in the secret garden, too?" Mary asked Ben, "Or are all the flowers dead?" "Ask the robin" said Ben Weather staff. "He's the only one who knows." And he went back to work.

The robin was hopping around on the ground. Mary was watching him when she saw something in the earth. She picked it up. It was an old key.

"The key to the secret garden!" she whispered excitedly.

Mary looked at the key for a long time. Then she put it in her pocket and walked back to her room.

Last summer my best friend Narin and I went for a picnic in the park by the river, but it was a complete disaster!

In the morning, we prepared some food and put it into our picnic basket and went to the park by the river. We took out our picnic blanket and began unpacking our food. It all looked so delicious! We sat down to eat and then I realized we forgot to bring forks and spoons to eat our tomato salad. We were sad but we started to eat other food and save the tomato salad for later.

After we ate our sandwiches, I took a bite of my cookie but spat it out straight away! It tasted bad. Narin tried a bite too and agreed with me. I think we might have added salt instead of sugar.

We still had strawberries and watermelon to eat, so we began eating those. Just at that moment a strong wind blew through the park and my napkin flew away. We had to run really far to catch it! After we caught the napkin, we walked back to our picnic blanket, but we saw a small brown dog eating our watermelon. We ran after the dog but it was too late, there was no watermelon left. We both laughed at our bad luck. 

So many things went wrong on our picnic, but we still had fun together. It's such a funny story to tell!

"Mum!" Sarah calls as she runs into the house with her eyes bright.

"What's the matter?" Mum asks.

"There's a baby deer in our 1 !" Sarah says as she points out the window. Then she picks up a (n) 2 from the table. "Can I feed (喂) it?" she asks.

"Sarah, that's not really a (n) 3 idea," Mum answers. "That deer lives in the wild (自然环境). If it gets used to people feeding it, it won't know how to 4 on its own."

Sarah puts the apple back. "Can I just pet (抚摸) it?" she asks as she hopes for a 5 answer.

"You shouldn't do that. It may make the deer feel afraid (害怕的) and it may even hurt it," Mum says. "Let's call the police to 6 it."

"I wish it could 7 here with us," Sarah says sadly.

"Why not use my smartphone?" Mum says. "You can take 8 of the deer. Then you'll always have them to 9 it."

Sarah is excited and she runs to get Mum's 10 . Then she walks quietly to the yard 11 .

As Sarah takes pictures, another deer walks into view. "It must be the mother deer!" she thinks excitedly. She takes pictures of both deer 12 they eat leaves from the trees.

After a moment, the 13 come and take the deer away. "Will they come back again?" Sarah asks Mum.

"Maybe," Mum says. "But now you have beautiful pictures to remember 14 ."

Hearing that, Sarah feels 15 . She is lucky to have such special yard visitors!
