Reading plays an important role in my English learning.

I am Canadian. I started learning French when I was 10 years old. But my whole experience with the language was in the classroom. All of that changed, however, during my last summer of high school. As a 17-year-old girl, I flew across the country by myself for the first time I headed for Quebec to live in the province with a French— speaking host family, who didn't speak any English. And I would learn French at a local school. 

On the first day of school, all of us students were given a test to determine（测定）our language level. We were required to speak only French all summer. 

I made every effort to communicate in a second language by making new friends, seeing movies and even ordering food from restaurants in French. Though I couldn't understand most of it at the very beginning, the whole experience was exciting and refreshing. 

On weekends, my classmates and I took trips to different places around the province. On one trip, we went whale watching on the St. Lawrence River. Even though it was raining, we could see huge whales swimming around our boat. The most memorable part of our trip was a visit to historic Quebec City. I walked along the stone streets, took pictures of the European-style（欧式的）buildings, and learned some stories there. 

Finally my efforts paid off At the end of the summer, I was able to communicate pretty well. I couldn't wait to go back to school and talk with my French teacher. Being fully immersed（沉浸）in a French-speaking environment was a valuable learning experience. And it could be the main reason for my improvement in French.

Sorry to hear that you have problems in English learning. But don't worry. Everyone has  ability to learn English well. Here (be) some secrets to language learning. 

Listening and repeating is a good way to improve your (pronounce). Why not buy some English tapes? You can listen to them at home and repeat the sentences again and again  you are comfortable with them. 

It's normal to forget some new (word) sometimes. I think you can write them down on paper or in your notebooks so that you can memorize (they) in your free time. Another way is to read aloud every morning. Reading is one of the best ways (increase) your vocabulary (词汇). 

I know it's really boring to remember grammar rules. But grammar is really (use). Remember to listen to the teachers and take notes (careful) in class. Then practice what you learned  doing exercises. Try to study and remember information bit by bit instead of memorizing a lot once.

As the saying goes, "If you don't succeed at first, try again. " This is quite 1 when you' re trying to learn English. Lai Shixiong, an English expert, has a story to share. 

Like many non-native (非本土的) speakers, Lai didn't 2 when he first started learning English. When he was in high school, he once got a low mark of 7 out of 100 in an English test. He almost 3 English, but then he met a classmate. The classmate greatly improved his English by working hard.

Having a pen pal is fun and can be a great way to improve your writing skills. But most people have trouble knowing what to write to their pen pals. 

Share your information. Break the ice by telling your pen pal a little about yourself. Start with your name, age and job. Write about what you like to do or what's on your mind that day. What you pass on will encourage your pen pal to tell something about him. 

Ask questions. This will help you go to know him and probably get you a fast answer. Make your questions into the e-mail by telling him something you like to do and then asking if he has ever tried it. 

 You may have some difficulties in your life and want to ask for advice. Your pen pal may tell you what to do.  But it will give you something about his opinions. Also, discussing real-world questions will promote (增进) your friendship. 

There are about 7, 000 languages around the world. But over 50 percent of these languages will die out by the end of the 21st century, according to UNESCO (联合国教科文组织). 

Languages become endangered for many reasons. One of the reasons is that fewer and fewer people speak these languages. These people sometimes leave their communities and move to cities or towns. 

Once a language dies, it never comes back to life. Governments all over the world are trying to stop this. In New Zealand, the government has said it wants more than 20 percent of the country's population to be able to speak basic Maori (毛利语) by 2040. It plans to provide Maori lessons in all New Zealand schools by 2025, The New York Times reported. 

China is also trying to protect its languages. About 130 languages are spoken in China. In 2015, the government started a project to record all the languages spoken in China. Universities like Minzu University of China have set up these language learning courses for their students. 

Some people argue that language loss, like the loss of some animal species, is simply a fact of life on Earth. However, all languages are human heritage(遗产). When we lose a language, we lose the culture of the people who speak it. Language itself is often the only way to pass on a certain community's history and culture, as well as its knowledge of things like math and geography. 

Hi, everybody. My name is Helen and I'm 13 years old. I'm in the 8th grade at St. Paul School in the US. My school is big and clean with a large library. It is full of different kinds of books, so I can read them after class. I can get on well with my teachers and classmates, and we can help each other. So my school life is meaningful and colorful!

Zhou Jinrui and Harry are two middle school students in Hangzhou. They didn't have much money with them. But they have dreamed to visit Beijing for a long time. So they went to Beijing from Hangzhou by bike last summer holiday. They spent nearly one month on the bike travelling. 60. Although the journey was hard, they felt very happy. 

They went through many cities and villages during the travelling. They ate the food they took or had cheap meals. When they were tired at night, they took out their map to find small and cheap hotels or the farmers' houses to stay in. They also took some medicine with them. When they had a cold, they didn't need to go to hospital. When it was rainy, they stopped for a while and went on with their travelling. 

At the end of August, they got to Beijing successfully. They visited a lot of places of interest in Beijing, such as the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and Tian' anmen Square. 

They had a fun time in Beijing for ten days. At last, they had to return to Hangzhou by train because the new term began in September. 

My name is Frank. I'm the youngest of the three children in  (I) family. When I was young, my brothers did most of the housework. Though they were tired sometimes, they never asked me to do anything,  (especial) the chores. I lived comfortably and spent most of my time happily. I often hang out  friends after school instead of helping with chores.

The next day, we went camping in the countryside.  Then, we made a fire and cooked food. The sky was clear, and we saw many stars. It was fantastic. 

On the last day, we went to a park.  We took many photos. It was a great trip, and I hope to go there again.
