Do you ever go to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau（青藏高原）? The weather there changes a lot in summer. You can experience "four seasons" in just one day. What is it like? Let's take a look. 

"Spring" morning

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is very high. In the early morning, it's cool. After the sun comes out, it becomes warm like spring. It's a good time to take a walk. 

"Summer" noon

At noon, it's sunny and hot. You might feel like it's summer. The sunlight is so strong that you might want to wear a pair of sunglasses. Sometimes, it rains but the rain doesn't last long. If you are lucky enough, you might see rainbows. 

"Autumn" afternoon

In the afternoon, the temperature goes down quickly, especially after the sun goes down. It's cool, just like in autumn. People have to put on warm clothes. 

"Winter" night

Late at night, it gets cold like winter. People usually sleep with a thick quilt（被 子）. The rainy season is from June to September each year. It often rains at night.

Have you ever met a person who is like the people I' ll mention（提到）below? They have a very poor sense（感觉）of direction. When they are on the street, they can't tell the east from the west or the south from the north. Certainly, they can ask others for help. But I have to say that asking the way in an impolite way can"give" people a bad feeling. 

One day I was stopped by a man. He asked, "Where is the Wisdom Building?" To be honest, I wasn't very happy about what he did. Why couldn't he ask in a more polite way? With a little bad impression made by his words, I didn't pay much attention to the place where he wanted to go and gave him the wrong answer. Just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building! But I had no time to turn back and look for him. I rushed to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting. 

When I got to my office, the man I would meet with hadn't come. He said he got lost. And he might be late on the phone. About an hour later, he arrived. He was just the man who asked the way! After saying sorry to the man for what I had done, I saw the man's face turned red and he said, "I should have said sorry to you first. That was my mistake. . . "

Zheng Qinwen  (win) China's first Olympic gold in the tennis singles（单打）at the Paris Olympics on Aug 3, 2024. 

"Nothing can describe my feeling right now, it's unreal. I' ve always been hoping to get a medal（奖牌）for China. I was not sure  I would get it before the game. Finally, I made it, " Zheng said after her win. 

From 2020 to 2024, Zheng's world ranking（排名）jumped from over 600 to 7. Years of competition taught her to play with  (patient) and control her energy in matches. Zheng Qinwein's performance has won her the title of" Queen Wen" among fans who always pay attention  her matches. 

"Honestly, I love my fans for giving me this title  it fits my character well. You need to show yourself as queen of the court, because you need this energy and power to show that you are the best, " Zheng told China Daily. 

Playing for China at the Olympics gave Zheng power. She made her way to success after surviving（挺过）  (tired) matches that went on for three hours. 

"What I can be sure of is that I'm going to fight  (active) until the last moment, because I'm not only playing for myself. I'm playing for my country, " Zheng told China Daily. 

This great success is just the start of  new journey for Zheng. Just a few days after her Olympic victory, she took part in the Cincinnati Open but lost to Russian player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a third-round match. 

"I was proud to win the Olympic gold, but it's time  (forget) it and start over again. If I think too much about my past achievements, I won't play my next match well, " Zheng told CCTV in an interview and the  (express) on her face showed us that she was ready for more challenges. 

Just before I turned 10, my parents gave me a cat called Muffin as my birthday gift. Since then, we've shared a special connection that has brought me a lot of1 . 

Every night, she rests on my lap as I sit in my favorite armchair, and her 2 purring （呼噜）has made my evenings more relaxing. However, about a year ago, Muffin started acting 3 . 

Instead of her usual behavior（行为）, she began to meow（喵喵叫）without 4 . She was trying to communicate something important to me. At first, I thought she might just be trying to draw my 5 , but her meowing became increasingly insistent（反复的）。

In fact, a lot of languages can still be learned best in more relaxing situations where students are having fun. Here are some suggestions.

If you live in an area filled with English speakers, get students out of the classroom. Put them among other English speakers: Students may not speak to strangers, but they' ll hear conversations and may begin to understand how the words learned in the classroom are actually used in everyday life. 

★Let their guard（警惕）down. 

One difficult thing for learners is that they don't have confidence（信心）. Fun activities, especially those outside of the classroom, give students a chance to feel relaxed.  It may take a bit of time in the beginning, but once students get into it, they'll start to get confidence. 

★Make use of English media（媒体）。

Most recorded language instruction（指导）is pretty boring. They will hear common expressions and more everyday conversations in the movie. If they' re not sure about anything they hear, you can turn it into a new lesson in the classroom. 

★Hear or use English in situations. 

Casual（随便的）conversations give learners the chance to hear or use English in situations. In different situations, they can talk about their favorite films, super stars and any successful or famous person freely. They will show interest in learning English if they use English to talk about anything they like.  Everyone can master new knowledge or skills better if he has fun learning. 

①The dragon is often the main character in Chinese celebrations. Dragon dances have been recorded at traditional celebrations since the Han Dynasty, while fire dragon dances began appearing in records during the Qing Dynasty. Some historians say fire dragon dances date back to （追溯到）the Ming Dynasty. Today, fire dragon dances can be seen all over China as a part of the Spring Festival celebrations. 

②In Hunan province, the Xiangxi Steel Fire Dragon Dance takes place every year during the Lantern Festival. It is popular thanks to the local people who tirelessly introduce it online. Fireworks shoot out from many bamboo pipes（管子）placed on each side of the dance route（路线） and dragon dancers face the sparks（火花）bravely. Some of the dances end by running the dragon into a river; others aren't over until the dragon is completely burnt out. 

③In Sichuan province, Huanglongxi Ancient Town hosts its fire dragon dance on the first five days and the 15th day of the first lunar month. Instead of fireworks, molten iron lava（铁水熔岩） is thrown into the air. As the lava cools and sends sparks into the air, the dragon" follows" a lantern, creating an amazing show. 

④In Guizhou province, Dafang County Fire Dragon Dance falls on the ninth day of the first lunar month every year. Instead of lighting the dragon on fire, it has a colorful lantern that has an artistic design and is lit from within. Fireworks are laid on the ground to create a shiny performance around the dance route as dancers move around the town with their dragon. 

⑤These different fire dragon dances are necessary to Chinese culture. If you have time, you must see them!

Nine is an important number in Chinese culture because its Chinese pronunciation is jiu. That means"long". According to the Book of Changes（《易经》）, the number six is considered yin while nine is yang. The ninth day of the ninth lunar month in the Chinese calendar features two nines, so the day is given the Chinese name"Chongyang". 

When it comes to the Double Ninth Festival（重阳节）, two important plants, cornel（茱萸） and chrysanthemum（菊花）, have to be mentioned. 

The cornel is widely planted in the north and south of China. Ancient people believed that wearing the cornel on this day could help prevent（阻止）illness and avoid（避免）disasters（灾难）。 They also believed that the chrysanthemum could drive away bad luck and prevent people from getting a cold in late autumn. So, drinking chrysanthemum wine has always been a traditional customs at this festival. 

As time goes by, the festival has been given more meanings. In 1989, the Chinese government set it as a day for the elders to encourage（鼓励）all to respect（尊重）and love them, so as to build a beautiful and age-friendly society（社会）。

Face Difficulties Bravely and Make the Year Meaningful

My dear fellows, 

It's exciting that we are stepping into Grade 9. I know it will not be an easy year. . 

On August 16, 2025, Pang Zhongwang, a doctoral student from Tsinghua University, won the "Touching China 2024"Award. His story, from a young man who fights against heavy hardships to an encouraging character, has warmed many hearts. 

Born with great challenges, Pang lived a hard life when he was a child. His father has a serious mental illness. His mother's legs were cut off, so she can hardly move. Pang himself had a heart problem since he was born. He went door-to-door borrowing money for his mother's illness. He also picked up waste things to make money and help pay off his family's debts(债务). However, he never lost hope. He always believed" Knowledge can change my life". 

In 2017, Pang entered Tsinghua University with a very high score in the college entrance exam. At first, he was worried that he might let others down. But later, he found his interest in scientific research. He kept trying even when he failed many times. Although money is still the problem, he decided to depend on himself. That's why he said no to people who raised money for him. Instead, he asked Tsinghua University for grants(补助金) and won the prizes for good grades. His mother named him" Zhongwang", which means "the hope of everyone". She always told him to look forward to the future. Pang once said, "Mom smiles every day—why should I feel sad?"

Sadly, his mother passed away in 2020. That was just before he got the chance to study for a doctor's degree at Tsinghua. Now, Pang has written many important science papers and got patents(专利) for his inventions. His dream is to" serve the country through scientific research" and he works hard for this goal. His story lights the way for many people. 

As the award speech says:" You leave your hard times behind. You face life with a smile and move forward strongly. " Pang's journey shows us that if we are strong and keep hope, we can live up to what others expect of us and create our own bright future.
