If you think you don't learn a foreign language well, what can you do? Experts say that we can all learn from the behaviour of good language learners to improve.

Good language learners look for chances to hear and use the new language outside the classroom, which helps them learn more quickly. They may talk to salesmen, join sports clubs, or even chat with people in coffee shops. All of these activities are helpful and can also be fun.

What's more, good language learners try different ways to make themselves understood. For example, if they don't know the word for"launderette", they might say"the place where you can wash and dry your clothes in machines that you pay to use". If that doesn't work, they might even try drawing a laundry room with washing machines, or acting it out. The point is that good language learners are creative and don't easily give up. Because of these qualities, they can learn more and better.

Finally, good language learners are prepared to take risks. They think that making mistakes is     ▲    . If someone corrects their pronunciation or grammar, they try to remember the corrections instead of feeling embarrassed (窘迫的). If they don't understand what someone says the first time, they aren't afraid to ask the person to repeat it until they do understand.

Learning a language well takes time. However, looking for chances to practise the language, trying different ways to communicate, taking risks, and being prepared to make mistakes will help you become a confident language learner.

When Ms Zhang told us there was going to be an English speech competition next month, my hands turned cold because I thought public speaking was awful."Lucy,you should try," she said. My heart beat like a wild horse.

For the next few days, I was afraid to see Ms Zhang. But one rainy afternoon,she 1 me after class."Fear weakens only when we face it," she said softly, and handed me a 2 to sign up (报名) for the competition.

Chu Wenwen is famous as the"Beaver(河狸) Princess". In 2018,a year after she finished her college, she gave up her job in Beijing and went back home to Xinjiang.That's when Mengxin beavers became a part of her life.

Mengxin beavers are a first-class state-protected animal in China. They are only found along the Ulungur River in Xinjiang. When Chu went there, she was shocked by what she saw. "Many beavers die from fighting for food. Willow shrubs (灌木柳) are their most important food source, but they were disappearing in the area," she said. "Idecided to do something."

In 2018, Chu started the"beaver canteen" programme and made a plan to plant willow shrubs for the beavers. The programme needed lots of money. To raise money,she posted videos on the internet, showing how beavers build dams (水坝) and how she saves wild animals. She also live-streamed (直播) to show beavers eating the shrubs she planted. Through her hard work, about 400,000 willow shrubs were planted with the money from internet users.

Because of Chu's efforts, the number of beaver nests (窝) has increased from162 to about 190 over the past years. Chu said, "We will continue to encourage more people, especially the young, to take part in nature conservation."

Now, she is working on a programme called the"beaver ark". It's a hospital for wild animals that get hurt. She also runs a"beaver guardian" programme. It trains local people to patrol(巡护) along the river.

In 1985, there were 152,000 to 163,000 giraffes. "The number of wild giraffes has fallen by as much as 40 per cent since the 1980s," said a report on endangered wild animals and plants.

 Because the population of the world is growing and people are cutting down a lot of trees to build houses. There aren't enough places for giraffes to live and enough food for them to eat.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (国际自然保护联盟) says,"Giraffes will disappear in the near future." To save giraffes, many governments have developed plans to help them, such as setting up the World GiraffeDay and making laws. Some scientists have done important research to find the best way to protect them. 

If every one of us can do something to help save giraffes, there will be more giraffes on Earth.
