Hello, everyone! I'm Li Hua.  It's a great honor to give a speech here.  Today, my topic is My Dream Human-like Robot.

I was walking along a busy road when I noticed a young man standing near the crossing selling toys.  Usually I would hurry past such sellers.  But I found this young man was blind.  I wanted to see how he sold his things, so I stood for some time without crossing the street. 

Soon, a young mother with a little girl came by and the child set her eyes on one of the teddy bears.  The mother asked about the price and it was only one dollar.  She pulled out a 10-dollar note from her handbag and told the young man that she was giving him 10 dollars and wanted the change（零钱）back.  I was wondering how he was going to do it.  He told the young mother to put the money in the bag hanging around his neck and take out her change herself. 

I realized that this young man believed people would not cheat him.  There was no way for him to know whether someone would take out more than they should have.  As a 30-year-old man, I was deeply moved.  I bought a model car from him that I didn't need.  As I walked down the street, I gave the model car to a kid walking with his father. 

I kept thinking that the world would be a better place if we could all learn to trust each other more, like the young blind street seller. 

Monty Roberts was the son of a horse trainer who would go from ranch（大牧场）to ranch, training horses.  One day, while he was still in high ____/ sku:l/,(A) Roberts was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be in the future. 

That night, he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch.  He wrote about his dream in great detail（详细地）and even d____ pictures of the ranch.

Interest is the best teacher.  For Lu Qirui, running is her favorite.  Lu, a girl aged 17, is from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.  She became famous after a video showed she finished a 100-meter sprint（短跑）in just 

12. 07 seconds.  The number showed she was so excellent that she could run as fast as a national-level athlete.  It's almost impossible for a teenager to achieve that speed. 

When Lu was a little girl, she fell in love with all kinds of sports.  Lu was a fourth grader when she entered the school's track and field（田径）training team.  Although she was young, she got up at 6 a.  m.  every day, started training at 6:30 a; m.  and kept it until 7:30 a.  m.  And she would continue training from 4 p.  m.  to 6 p.  m.  after school.  She has to spend much time on running, but she has never fallen behind others in her studies.  She always makes full use of her time to do what she likes.  In the future, Lu plans to make more achievements in running.  As for her dream, she said, "I want to be a P.  E.  teacher so that more students can feel the happiness that sports bring to them. "

Everybody wants success.  Some people work hard at it, while others just talk about it. , so we all know what success looks like.  Sometimes it just seems like something too far to get.  But the truth is that success is closer than you think.  It's just over there.  You must want it enough and.  be willing to get it. 

.  If you have a reason why you can't make it, you'll not succeed. .  What we need to do is to let the failures become our teachers.  Then we can learn something from them. 

.  You need to climb it.  But it's not an escalator（自动扶梯）.  You can't just stand there and let it do the work for you. .  Sometimes it will be easy, and other times it'll be difficult.  It's necessary for you to keep climbing.  Just start, and you'll be on the way to success. 

Progress means the act of going forward.  Making progress can make us healthy and happy in life.  To make more progress in life, start looking at problems in a different way.  If we think positively（积极的）, it can be useful and helpful.  We need to know that problems are part of our life.  After we solve problems one after another, we can make more progress and become stronger. 

Having confidence（自信心）is helpful for us to make progress.  We should stay with people who believe in our success and actively support us.  These people can make us confident and help us towards progress. 

Slow progress is still progress.  It doesn't matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.  Progress usually comes a lot more slowly than we expect.  Even if progress is slow, try not to be worried.  The important thing is that we keep taking steps towards our goals and clearly remember what our goals are all the time.  The actual speed isn't important. 

The road to progress is not always smooth.  Sometimes, maybe it feels like we're taking one step forward and three steps back, but it won't always be like that.  Keep going towards our goals and we can more easily make the progress we want. 

Progress doesn't always happen in a straight line.  As long as we keep working, we will achieve higher levels. 

You may not realize it, but you are doing more than just (study) when you are at school.  School is also the place where you learn to get along well with people.  However, this is not always easy.  What can you do if you just don't like one of your classmates?

If you discover that you have (problem) getting along with your classmates or friends, one of the (important) things to learn is tolerance（宽容）.  Tolerance is the (able) to realize and respect the differences in others.  We can't change the ways that other people do, so it is important to learn to live happily with them. 

If everyone (learn) tolerance, they will get on better with each other.  Knowing others constantly（不断地）also lets us understand (other) differences. 

Something different does not (exact) mean that it is bad.  Tolerance teaches us how (keep) an even temper（温和的脾气）and an open mind. 

As an old (say) goes, "Treat others how you want to be treated. " The world is very different, and practising tolerance in (you) own school and city can help make things better. 

What Can Trees Tell us about Climate Change?

Trees can keep a record of the earth's climate（气候）for a lo`ng time.  In fact, trees can live for hundreds, even thousands of years!

If you see a stump（树桩）, you may find that the top of the stump has many rings.  These rings can tell us how old the tree is, and what the weather was like during each year of the tree's life. 

In most places, daily weather records have only been kept for the past 100 to 150 years.  So, scientists can use trees to learn about the climate hundreds to thousands of years ago.
