Climate change, disease, and hunger are big problems in the world. Climate activists (活动家) need to use both fear and hope to get people to care and take action. Fear can make people feel like they need to do something right away, but hope can make them feel like they can actually make a difference. Activists must carefully find a balance between negative and positive advocacy (倡导).
If activists only use fear, it can backfire. People might feel so scared that they just give up instead of trying to help. Psychologists have found different feelings people have when they see scary things about the climate. These include eco-depression (feeling very sad) and eco-anxiety (feeling very worried). Feeling sad can make a person give up and not do anything about the climate, and feeling worried can make a person want to avoid the problem. Both of these feelings can stop people from taking action.
Activists often use really shocking pictures to make people take action. These pictures might show sad polar bears, forests that have been cut down, or big fires. But instead of making people want to help, these pictures sometimes make people feel like the problems are far away and not important. This can make them stop caring about the environment. It's kind of like how eco-anxiety works—people feel so worried that they just avoid thinking about it.
Without hope, fear isn't an effective motivator (激励因素). People need to believe their actions will make a real difference. Positive activism (行动主义) steps in where negative activism ends. It uses hope and excitement to motivate action, focusing on the positive results of taking action, not just the bad results of not acting.
A good example is the Irish rock band U2. They are famous for their great music and concerts. In their latest concert "Achtung Baby", they showed a virtual (虚拟的) world of Earth's wildlife. At first, they showed animals that were in danger in just one color to show how bad it was when their homes were destroyed. As the concert reached its most exciting part, the colors got brighter and more beautiful, like a big celebration of life. The performance changed from negative to positive, inspiring people to protect Earth's beauty together.
Fear is a powerful emotion. We need fear. But we cannot remain in fear without moving forward. While fear will not disappear, we must focus our thoughts on hope. With hope as our guide, a beautiful goal can encourage us to take every step of progress forward.

On February 16, 2025, Futian District in Shenzhen began to use 70 AI - powered civil servants (公务员). These workers are made with DeepSeek's R1 model. They can deal with 240 different things in 11 areas, such as documents, public services, and emergency management.
The AI system works very well. It can find and fix mistakes in work with 95% accuracy (准确率). People can only do this with 70% accuracy. And it makes the time for checking much shorter, 90% shorter. This means human workers can spend more time on creative jobs. The AI can also send requests to the right place. The accuracy rate went from 70% to 95%. This helps solve urgent (紧急的) problems, like getting healthcare, much faster. During emergencies, like typhoons, the AI can guess where the disaster will go with 98% accuracy. It can also make rescue plans 80 times faster than people. This can save lives in dangerous times.
The cost of using these AI workers is very low. Each one only uses $0.4 of electricity every month. In five years, the cost is less than three months of a person's pay. It means the government can put more money into education and building things like roads and bridges. To make sure everything is safe, Futian made China's first rules for government AI helpers. These rules say that people must watch over important decisions made by AI.
This new use of AI has made people much happier with the government. Public satisfaction has gone up from 78% to 96%. It shows that technology can make the government more open and easier to believe in.
As an official said, "AI isn't replacing people. It's helping us solve problems better." The story of Futian makes us know that we can use tools to build a smarter and better world.

In the 1890s, comic artists faced a funny problem: how to show characters were truly asleep instead of just lying down. They needed visual (视觉的) forms for silent sleepers.
Early artists tried various solutions. Some used strange letter combinations like "zzggrrhh" or symbols like stars. But none became widely accepted.
In Katzenjammer Kids, a comic by Rudolph Dirks, a snoring captain had "Zzz" floating above him. Readers immediately understood he was asleep while kids played tricks.
By the 1910s, nearly all comics used "Zzz. " By 1918, language experts even added it to dictionaries as a symbol for snoring.
Today, people still use "Zzz" in text messages. For example, the English phrase "catch some Zs" means take a nap in English, which directly came from this comic tradition and later became a popular sleep-related phrase.
A. The challenge was showing a sleeping person without words.
B. Eventually, "Zzz" is regarded internationally as a symbol for sleep.
C. However, the idea of falling into deep sleep came from a classic comic.
D. Some artists even drew musical notes around sleepers.
E. One famous form entered the public view and changed everything in 1903.
F. Though Zzz is only a visual form, it has influenced language across the world.

Since 2018, the Guardian (《卫报》) has used "global heating" instead of "global warming" to describe climate change. This change came after scientists found that Earth's temperature would rise between 2. 5℃ and 4. 5℃, which is higher than the past goal. Though the two phrases are simple, they send out a lot of messages.
If "global warming" makes us feel that we can still manage the climate change without too much worry, "global heating" is totally different. When we get into the"global heating" state, it's as if we're moving towards a place where nature's delicate (微妙的) balance is so seriously broken that we can't make things better again. Everything will be changing: Coral will die, polar bears will lose their habitats completely, and extreme weather like droughts and heavy storms will frequently happen. There's no doubt that we're entering a "climate emergency".
Many years ago, when people first learned about the climate problem, they thought it would only affect future generations. But a climate scientist named Katharine Mach said that now it's actually our problem. The climate has changed, and we're all experiencing this change together.
However, just knowing these messages is not enough. It depends on every one of us to find a solution and take action. Indeed, language matters. But action matters even more.
(1)、Why did The Guardian replace "global warming" with "global heating"?A、To help people better understand the climate change. B、To let people know the global warming. C、To stress the emergency of the climate change. D、To keep up with popular language trends.(2)、According to the second paragraph, what won't happen if "global heating" continues to worsen?A、Coral will die. B、Polar bears will lose their habitats. C、Extreme weather will happen more often. D、Sea levels will rise.(3)、What can we infer from the underlined sentence "language matters. But action matters even more"?A、Language is unimportant in dealing with climate change. B、Action is more important in dealing with climate change. C、Language and action are both important. D、Only future generations should take action on climate change.(4)、What is the author's attitude towards "global heating"?A、It's just a change in language use. B、It's something serious and needs quick action. C、It can still be managed without worry. D、It is a normal stage of climate change.(5)、Where can we probably read this passage?A、A story book. B、A news report. C、A travel magazine. D、A fashion blog. -

Zhou Qi is a 17-year-old student from Hangzhou. Zhejiang. Last September he broke the Guinness (吉尼斯) World Record for the most single skips in one minute, with a result of 374. The record had stood unbroken for ten years. Daisuke Mimura from Japan held it with 348 skips in 2013.
Interestingly, Zhou's new record is not even his personal best. "My best performance was 396 times in one minute. That was done in the 2nd Primary and Secondary School Students' Rope Skip-ping Championship in 2020. My coach said I had already broken the world record. It was at that time that I made up my mind to apply for the Guinness World Record," Zhou said.
However, the road to success was far from smooth. For years, Zhou practised with a special steel rope designed for competition. It's light and strong. But because of the rope he used, his first Guinness application was considered invalid (无效). After online communication with the records management team, Zhou quickly changed to a common rope recognized (认证) by the Guinness World Records. He soon got used to it.
Whatever kind of rope Zhou used, his strict training stood him in good sporting condition. Zhou has been in the school rope skipping team for seven years. He has jumped rope for about four hours each day. He would also run around the playground to improve his physical strength.
Now as a high school student, Zhou said he'll put his studies first. But he won't stop training and still hopes to beat his own record one day.
