Every summer, hundreds of polar bears (北极熊) passthrough the small town of Churchill in Canada. They travel to the 1 after the sea ice starts to break up and become water. To keep any 2 "event" away from the town people, the town has opened a "prison(监狱)". If any polar bear comes into the town 3 food, the town will put it into prison. The polar bear has to 4 in a small room for up to a month.

People highly praised the two men. They thought they were heroes. The car was drifting (漂流) down a river in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. There were many people on both riverbanks(河岸). They took videos of the event and posted the videos online. 

The event happened when a car ran into a river. When the car began to drift and go down, 53-year-old Jiao Dayin took action quickly.  He tried to climb on top of the car and wanted to break a window to save the driver inside. 

 Another onlooker, Wang Yihui, joined him at once. Wang also climbed onto the car, working alongside Jiao to free the unconscious (昏迷的) driver. * Their brave work paid off when they finally broke a window and pulled the driver to safety. 

The wonderful rescue was met with cheers and applause (欢呼和掌声) from people on the riverbanks.  Videos of the event show how Jiao and Wang saved the driver in danger. 

 A dog without home named Huihui became popular at Fuzhou University after saving a little cat. The heart-warming event happened on Sunday evening when some students saw Huihui looking worried, digging quickly in the ground. Its nose and legs had injuries(伤). 

Worried about the dog's action, the students joined Huihui in digging. Later, they heard low cries—a cat was in the ground. The students helped dig and take stones away and they finally took the cat out around 10 pm. Huihui felt relaxed after the cat got free. The dog then carefully smelt the area. Maybe,   ▲   . 

People didn't know why the cat was in the ground. Some thought it was born there before it rained on Saturday. A video about the dog saving the cat went popular online, getting over 30 million views and 650, 000likes. Many praised Huihui's bravery and kindness. 

Many people said that they would like to help the two animals. The video's owner said that many people would like to keep Huihui and the cat and that they already found loving homes. 

Ernest Shackleton gave the order to leave the ship. Ten months earlier, theEndurance had become trapped(被困的)in Antarctica. The sea men stayed on the ship for a while, but the ship was filled with water and they couldn't stay there. The Endurance was going to sink. 

But Shackleton had planned ahead. He gave each man warm clothes and a sleeping bag. They set up tents on the ice and took food and other things away from the ship. They also pulled three smaller boats to their camp to help them leave when the sea opened up again. 

Staying on the ice, the men kept busy hunting sea animals for food. They read the few books they were able to save — encyclopedias were their favorites. They played games, and one man played music. They often talked about home. 

The ice broke apart as it moved north, and the seamen got into the lifeboats. Finally, they made it to a new island. Shackleton and five men then took another dangerous trip to get help. Their experience became one of history's most famous stories of keeping alive. 

Baobab (猴面包树) trees grow in mainland Africa, Madagascar and northwest Australia. Many scientistssay that the baobab began life in Africa before (appear) elsewhere. Now, a study shows that there were baobabs in Madagascar, 21 million  (year) ago. 

Scientists studied the genomes(基因组) of each of the eight baobab species. A genome  (be)a complete group of DNA in a living thing. *DNA is a chemical that carries the orders for making and maintaining(维持)  living thing. 

The scientists 'research shows that, over millions of years,  (difference) baobab species came out in Madagascar.  (final), one species traveled to Africa and another to Australia. These then changed slowly over time into more species.  (they) flowers made the area's wildlife come nearer. Animals helped the trees to reproduce by pollination(授粉). 

It's thought that the seeds traveled  the sea on boats of plant material. They naturally gathered together stayed at the top of sea water and moved.

August 8, the San Diego Zoo in California held a welcome party for the first pandas to come here in more than 20 years. It was the first 1 for Yun Chuan, a 5-year-old male (雄性), and Xin Bao, a 4-year-old female. China has loaned(借出) the two pandas to the zoo as part of a project to 2 the species. Pandas are thought to be in danger.

People stopped the building of a water projectin June, 2024. They did so to protect a groupof swallows(燕子). These swallows live on the earthen cliff (土质悬崖) along the Yongding River, and they would like to live somewhere quiet. Bird lovers were happy with the decision. 

The cliff faces west. It is over 30 meters long and nearly 20 meters high. It looks bright under the sunlight, making a beautiful picture. * From around 100 meters away, people can see about 200 caves in the cliff, each about the size of an apple, with brown swallows flying in and out. 

"I visited this group of swallows some weeks ago. In recent years, around late April to early May, they come here to build their homes, and then fly away by early July, " said Zhao Yue, an official. "The water project started in June, but it already stopped its activities last week. "

"I have met bird lovers during my work. I understand their feelings. The water project is important to the city, but we will still do something to save the birds. We are thinking about changing the project's route (路线) to make su re the swallows can keep living in the cliff in the future, " said Zhao. 

Anew study shows that to cut down feelings of anger(愤怒) we should do calming activities (使人平静的活动). The study came out in March America. They wanted to study the popular theory(理论) that showing anger is a good way of staying away from it. People  stay away from being angry by shouting or hitting something. 

People often deal with(应对) anger by or boxing(拳击). However, in the study, experts find that they aren't very good at reducing anger. In fact, some of activities really make it worse. For example, they make people's hearts beat faster.  , calming activities do help to cut down feelings of anger. Deep breathing and yoga calming activities. They can make the heart beat slower. The study that running may be good for heart health but is not the best to reduce anger. 

The study finds though running can't reduce anger, some ball could do. It shows that or playful activities help to stay away from bad feelings. 

Nima Pelden and Dawa Pelden were conjoined twins when they were born. More than five years after 1 operated(做手术) on them in Australia, they celebrated their seventh birthday. In a picture, the twins 2 and walk hand-in-hand happily. 

There are few conjoined twins in the world. Their bodies are conjoined. They can't stay away from each other. But Nima and Dawa are very 3 . After the six-hour operation, they could stay in different 4 freely. 

Their mum Bhumchu Zangmo is happy. She said the twins are now 5 and are in Grade 2 back home in Bhutan. "They are really 6 so well and happily, " she said. "* They even ask me if I need any helping hand from them. "

A new study says going online is good for our health. 1. A report from the UK says that going online makes us feel happy. Scientists look at information on people's Internet use and mental health from 168 countries. The information comes from about two million(百万) people aged 15 to 99. 2. The scientists look at the information carefully. * They find that people going online are happier than those not going on the Internet at all. 

The scientists find some surprising results: going online is similar to walking in the park. 3. 它帮助人们学习新事物。It helps them practice hobbies, watch movies, and make new friends. However, the study doesn't look at how going online is bad for people's lives. 4. Many studies show that going online is bad for people's health. Tobias Dienlin, a famous doctor, says, "Different channels(渠道) and uses of the Internet have different effects(影响) on people's health and happiness. 5. 所以对我们来说, 花太多时间上网是不好的。"

Have you ever felt worried about a friend but didn't know how to ask if he or shewas OK?" The group"Are You OK?"has started an art competition to get those caring talks started. 

Having caring talks with friends in trouble can make a big difference in how they feel, a study shows. But asking if someone is OK isn't always easy. This was something Woody and Will experienced (经历) when they were friends at school. 

"It took us years to have a real talk about what was going on for Will, " said Woody. "I knew he wasn't OK. I just didn't know how to ask, and I didn't want to make it worse. We now hope to help others to start useful talks. "

Woody's experience is not special. Three out of five young people who didn't ask thought it wasn't their place to do so; half were afraid they would make things worse if they did. But Woody said he was glad he finally spoke up. 

"* After we started talking about what was really going on for Will, we became closer, " he said. "In turn, he is always there for me and gives me a hand when I need it. "

Riding bikes is a great way to keep healthy. It is good for our heart and mental(心理的) health. A surprising benefit(益处) of cycl ing is that it is good for our knees. A new study says riders may not have knee pain later in life. 

A team from a college made the study. Scientists surveyed (调查) 2, 600 men and women, with ages of about 64 who like riding bikes. They asked the men and women about their physical activity, and also took X-rays(X光片) of them. They got clear pictures of the state of their knees. 

The scientist, Dr Grace Lo, said that she hardly believed the result of the study. * She said fewer riders had something wrong with their knees than the people who didn't ride bikes. She said, "I am surprised to see how strong the benefit of cycling is. " A lot of studies show that riders usually live longer. 

Dr Grace Lo said, "Cycling is good for many things. "People over the age of 50 are easy to have arthritis(关节炎). Cycling helps stop people from getting it. So, from now on, ride your bike to school or to work. You will get help from it.

xiangyu Gubao is in Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. It is mainly made of stone (石头). In 1634, two brothers in the Ming Dynasty, Sun Juxiang and Sun Dingxiang,  (build) it. 

Xiangyu Gubao is a great fortress(堡垒). It is by the Qin River there is a moat(护城河) in front of it. Xiangyu Gubao is in a faraway corner of Shanxi Province and it makes for a (wonder) day trip from Jincheng. 

From the outside, Xiangyu Gubao looks like a strong fortress many watchtowers on the walls. The moat (run) before the walls and far away from Xiangyu Gubao, there are many hills. 

From the outside, Xiangyu Gubao looks great,  from the inside, it looks different. In fact, Xiangyu is a (real) large village, not a castle. 

* Xiangyu Village is over 400 (year) old and its strong walls were made to stop bad men from coming into the village. Although  out er walls look great, inside it is another story. There are still villagers living in  (they) home village. Along the streets, there are different shops for visitors. The ancient castle is showing its beauty. 

Urdd Eisteddfo d Festival was in Wales from May 27th to June 1st this year. More than 100, 000 people came together for about a 1 of fun. The yearly youth art festival celebrates Welsh culture and it takes place in a different part of Wales each year.

The event is one of Europe's largest youth festivals. Young people from 8 to 25 2 there. They compete(竞争) for prizes in over 4003 such as art, cooking, singing, dance, drama, drawing, and poetry. 

This year's festival was at Mathrafal Farm in Meifod, Powys. Over 100, 000 people4 the festival. * Sometimes, it rained during the festival, but it didn't make the visitors feel 5 or sorry. 

Ruby Davies is a 6 . She did best in recitation(朗读) for Welsh learners in Years 5 and 6. Ruby thanked her mom, dad and teachers, saying, "I'm so 7 . " The top prizes were a chair and a crown(王冠). 

Lio Maddocks is one of the festival's organizers. He 8 the 5, 000 volunteers. They helped organize this event. He 9 teachers and leaders for their" enthusiasm(热情)". They gave children the chance to make their 10 come true. 

Adragon boat competition opened in Guangzhou onSunday. Many international teams took part in it. The competition was on the Pearl River.  Nineteen of them came from the US, Canada, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and other countries. 

Six teams from the cities of Foshan, Huizhou, Qingyuan, Dongguan and Zhaoqi ng in Guangdong, and Longyan in Fujian also joined in the competition. 

To help people know about the competition, the organizer(组织者) held some other traditional activities before the competition. And there were also lion dance shows. 

 They were widely held in Guangdong. They were on the day of the traditional Dragon BoatFestival, which is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar.
