  • 18、Yuhang in Hangzhou is known for making oil paper umbrellas for more than 230 years. The umbrellas take more than 70 steps to make in Yuhang, so it takes at least a week to make an umbrella. In 2007, these umbrellas were added to Zhejiang Province's Intangible Cultural Heritage List (非物质文化遗产名录).

In 2015, Liu Weixue left a well-paid job to learn the art of making Yuhang oil paper umbrellas from his grandfather. "I want to bring the art to life," Liu said. "When it rains, someone uses the umbrella—that's what I want to see."

After getting the skills, Liu opened a studio (工作坊) and he improved the umbrellas to win the hearts of young people. As the thin paper was easy to break, he started to use a kind of thicker paper. In a test, his umbrellas were opened and closed for 1,000 times without breaking.

In 2017, Liu opened an online shop to sell umbrellas. It now has more than 80,000 followers. To keep the quality (质量), his studio makes only 1,000 umbrellas each year.

Liu hopes the art can be passed on. He goes to some schools in Yuhang to teach students. He also goes to events in different places to show the art to more people.

    根据短文内容,回答下列问题。

(1)、How long does it take to make a Yuhang oil paper umbrella?

(2)、Who did Liu learn the art of making Yuhang oil paper umbrellas from?

(3)、Was it easy to break Liu's umbrellas in a test?

(4)、What does Liu do to keep the quality of the umbrellas in his online shop?

  • 19、Not everything goes the way you want it to. You may go to a restaurant and order a nice meal. But your food is not cooked properly. You may buy an object but it breaks the next day. However, if you speak angrily to people, they will become angry and not want to help.

Start with words such as, "Excuse me, but…" Using a question to ask for help also works. People like to be asked than told! "Could you help me? I just bought this phone yesterday, but it's broken."

When trying to fix a problem, don't blame (责备) the person you're talking to. You can say, "I know this isn't your mistake, but…" or "There has been a misunderstanding," This shows you are only angry at the situation. Blaming isn't as important as getting a problem solved!

There are honest mistakes, but sometimes, someone may try to make use of you. In that situation, don't say, "Hey! You're trying to cheat me!" Instead, say, "I understood that…, but…"

Remember: usually a kind smile and polite words can help fix the problem.

    阅读短文,把A—E五个句子填入文中空缺处,使短文内容完整。

    A. Then allow him or her to reply.

    B. This polite (礼貌的) question sounds better, right?

    C. Blaming someone can quickly make him or her unhappy.

    D. These kinds of experiences will make you want to argue.

    E. A better way to get what you want is to use polite language in a friendly way.

  • 20、About four years ago, I made a resolution: I would read 30 new books a year. I did it and reading has been my habit ever since. However, I decided to stop doing that recently, because I found that I forgot almost everything I learned from the books earlier.

I found the problem because of one of my friends. She was worrying a lot about life at that time. I wanted to help her stop worrying. The book How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie was one of my favorite books. I learned a lot from it. When I wanted to share something from the book with my friend, I found that I didn't remember anything. So I decided to re-read (重读) it. After that, I felt I learned more from the book.

When I re-read the book, I also realized that we often forget knowledge (知识) over time. If we want to remember it and use it, we must review (复习) it from time to time. Then I decided to re-read all the books I had read. I planned to re-read 20 books a year. So far, I have re-read close to 10 books. Thanks to my re-reading of the books, the knowledge I forgot has come back to me. And I've learned some new things.

As time goes by, I may forget the knowledge again. But I have no worries. I will just read the book again then.

    根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(T)、误(F)。

(1)、The writer decided to stop reading books last year.
(2)、The writer has read the book How to Stop Worrying and Start Living at least twice.
    (3)、The writer planned to re-read 30 books a year.
(4)、If we want to remember knowledge and use it, we must review it from time to time.
(5)、After re-reading, the writer has learned some new things.
