Today cartoons are a part of  daily lives. People of all ages, especially children, become  in cartoons. They enjoy many cartoons on TV or in the movie theatres. There are some differences among them. Some kids  draw very good cartoons. They often have many wonderful  for movies or TV shows and make their own cartoons.

Many cartoonists draw with special pens. And some of them are smart enough to  cartoon characters on the computers. Surely, computers are helpful for making cartoons. This helps them to make  interesting cartoons than before.

Do you like to read comic (漫画) books? Even if you have never read an actual comic book, you probably know some characters from comic books. Do you know Captain America? How about Spiderman? Do you recognize Thor and Loki? Have you ever watched Superman? 

A comic book is a book made up of a series of pictures. The art and words are called "comic", but that doesn't always mean "funny". 

Rodolphe Topffer was a teacher, but he also developed several comic strips (连载漫画) which were published in 1827 in different places. These were all drawn carefully by hand.  Topffer wrote in horizontal (水平的) blocks in his own handwriting. This became the standard.

 Here, artists loved the idea and developed the technique (技巧) of using travel in their comics, which were always popular. The French also took part in strip comics, while there were still others who stuck to single comics that were going down the page in the book — instead of horizontal.

Comics started to become popular in the 20th century.  Comic strip artists have often used art to "make fun" of very serious subjects. Even when they were not "making fun", they used the comics and the characters to deal with serious topics.

Comic books continue to be popular, but over time, many of their characters have also been pictured in television shows and in movies.

What kind of person could create the unforgettable Nezha we all love? Let's start with Director Jiaozi, a person with an unexpected background. He used to study pharmacy (药剂学) but later decided to step into 3D animation (动画). Before Nezha, he spent over three years at home. He had little money, so he saved in many ways. He wore old clothes, ate simple food, and walked instead of taking transport. Without internet at home, he visited friends to get animation materials and learn skills. He even used sunlight during the day to save electricity.

The whole movie-making process was very difficult. First of all, it took a full two years to complete the script (剧本), and during this period, it was revised as many as 66 times. After that, the team got down to designing the look of Nezha. They came up with over 100 different designs, and finally, they selected the one with smoky makeup and messy hair buns, which ended up being loved by the audience. In total, it took three years to complete the film. To make this happen, more than 1,600 people from over 20 teams worked together. Among all the work, 1,400 special-effects scenes were carefully created, which required a great deal of effort.

The voice-over work was also hard. To create Nezha's special "smoky voice", the voice-actress Lv Yanting used her lowest voice. As a result, she almost lost her voice for a month. Even on the day before the film was launched, Director Jiaozi was still carefully checking every detail. This made his co-workers quite tired, but they didn't give up. Their hard work paid off. Nezha made a lot of money at the box office (票房) and became a huge success in Chinese animated movies.

In a word, making the Nezha movies was full of difficulties. But the team's strong will and hard work made these films great hits on the big screen.

Tom and Mike work in a computer company. One day, a customer entered the office. She looked at Mike and Tom, and then she walked to Mike. Mike gave her a warm greeting (问候). Tom was sad and walked away.

"People always choose Mike, I don't understand." Tom said.

"It's the way you communicate (交流)" Mrs. Smith said.

"Body language?" Tom asked.

"It's the way you stand and sit. It's the expression on your face, you never smile and you don't turn your head towards them." Mrs Smith said. "Look at Mike. He's holding his head up. He always smiles and looks friendly. His body language is making people feel comfortable, so they go to ask him for help." Then Tom improved (改进) his body language. He started to sit up straight and try smiling at people.

Two years ago, when I was making summer plans, at first I chose Plan A—working at an animal hospital or a place that trains animals to work with the disabled. But unluckily, people needed to be at least sixteen to do such work, and I wasn't old enough. So I chose Plan B—volunteering at an animal shelter (收容所) in my city.

Working at an animal shelter wasn't what I expected. I couldn't wear my favorite T-shirt when training the dogs because the dogs liked giving me big kisses (吻). I couldn't wear new shoes either when feeding the cats. When the cats disliked some food, they would spit (吐) it out and make my shoes dirty. However, it was still an interesting experience. Although there were many hard jobs, I had great fun playing with the animals. I loved walking around and deciding which dog I should take to the training room.

I spent all summer volunteering, and Plan B is probably the best decision I have ever made. Many people don't realize that they don't need to work at the shelter to give assistance. Shelters are often short of necessary things, so collecting money and helping out at the front desk can also be of great help!

There came out a cartoon short film of Journey to the West on the Internet. It was made with the help of AI (人工智能技术) . The film surprised many people because of its great watching and feeling experience. It provided new chances for showing Chinese classics.

This film is from Mr. Feng, a man from Sichuan, who has 15 years of art experience. He said that it might take at least six months to make the short film by hand before. But this work took only one week with the help of AI.

He also explained the steps to make this film with AI. The most important thing was to decide the number of pictures needed first. Next, he analyzed (分析) the story with AI and made a plan. Then he used AI to draw the pictures. At last the software (软件) helped to animate the pictures. These steps made many pictures that were not useful. "Now, it is difficult for AI to fully understand my meaning. Every time, I have to find the right pictures for the next step."

That means we still have trouble making films with AI, so it's not easy to achieve success. However, this cartoon film is a really good beginning, isn't it?

Last term, our art teacher asked us to make a short animated film (动画电影). She said, "Your1 is to create a story about friendship." The whole class felt both excited and a little nervous! 

First, we needed a good2 . We decided on a story about a silly fox and a smart spider (蜘蛛) who become best friends in the end. Then, we started to3 the cartoon characters. This was the longest part. We also had to learn how to use some simple computer special effects to make the scenes look real.4 , after weeks of hard work, the film was finished!

After watching the film, many classmates came to tell us how much they loved it. Our teacher was so7 that she said she would show it to other schools.

"Only when I take the tool out and touch the silk thread (丝线), do I feel fully comfortable," said Zou Yingzi. She is an artist of Su embroidery (绣品). Zou comes from Suzhou, the hometown of Su embroidery. She learned the art from her mother and grandmother.

At the age of 6, Zou started to help her mother make embroidery. It's not easy work. A single silk thread can be divided into 16 or more parts, so the thread is usually as thin as a human hair. Threads of different thicknesses are used to embroider different subjects. It is not surprising that a small piece can take the artist several months to make. But Zou enjoys her work. "I can work for days without sleep to make a fine piece," she said.

It's even more difficult to create double-sided embroidery with different pictures on each side. It requires the artist to embroider two pictures on both sides of a piece of silk at the same time. Double-sided embroidery is undoubtedly the example of Su embroidery as an art.

Suzhou has been famous for making silk for thousands of years. Today, central and local governments have set up Su embroidery research centers, workshops and museums to protect the art form. Some silk embroidery classes in primary and middle schools try to draw the interest of today's youth to the ancient art. Let's learn and pass it down.
