Learning languages has many advantages, such as feeling confident when travelling abroad, making friends (international), being able to read books in the original (原版的), and a lot more, like studying and working in other (country). Most people live under the stereotype (刻板印象) that they lose (they) learning abilities with age. However, if (face) with a challenge when there is no other way except to learn the new foreign language, adult people can show great results. Before (decide) how to learn a new language, the first thing is to decide in which situation the language is to be used.

If the target is, for example, (travel) or find new business at some international events, a course focusing speaking practice is recommended. The basic vocabulary and conversational structures (结构), studied and practised heavily during a short period of time, may lead to the needed result, which might be the ability to communicate on the streets or support small business talk. Usually, the two or three months of study are enough to start communicating. However, if brought back shortly to the usual environment, the person might lose the majority of knowledge if there would not be any supporting practice afterwards. Unfortunately, without practical usage further development, the language abilities may go away as easily as they came. The language cannot (learn) once and forever.

  • 5、A new study has found that including climate impact labels (标签) on a fast food menu influenced participants' food choices in favor of more climate-friendly items.

Study lead author Julia Wolfson, associate professor in the Department of International Health at the Bloomberg School and her co-authors wanted to test how labeling climate change impacts of fast-food menu items might lead people to choose less red meat. Eating too much red meat has been linked to many health problems. Eating less red meat would also help lower greenhouse gas emissions (排放).

More than 5,000 participants were shown a sample menu and asked to choose a single item for dinner. One group of participants received a menu with non-red meat items such as chicken sandwiches labeled "low climate impact". Another group received a menu with red meat items-burgers labeled "high climate impact". A third control group received menus without climate labels.

Both the high and low climate impact labels markedly reduced red meat choices compared to the control group. Menus with a high climate impact label on burgers increased non-beef choices by 23 percent compared to the control group. Menus that included low climate impact labels increased non-beef choices, such as a chicken sandwich or a salad, by about 10 percent more participants than those in the control group. "These results suggest that menu labeling, particularly labels warning that an item has high climate impact, can be an effective strategy for encouraging more sustainable (可持续的) food choices in a fast food setting", says Wolfson.

While encouraging on the whole, the results suggest that positive "low climate impact" labels are less effective in encouraging sustainable food choices compared to "high climate impact" labels. At the same time, climate labels may have the unwanted side effect of making a choice seem healthier than it actually is.

"An undeserved health halo (光环) given to unhealthy menu items could encourage people to overeat them." Wolfson says, "So we have to look for labeling strategies that create ‘win-wins' for encouraging both more sustainable and healthy choices."

(1)、What's the aim of the new study?
A、To encourage food choices without climate labels. B、To decide the best method for labeling food products in general. C、To discover the impact of climate labels on fast food choices. D、To find out the connection between red meat and health problems.
(2)、What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A、The results of the study. B、The importance of the study. C、The limitations of the study. D、The process of the study.
(3)、What side effect could climate labels cause?
A、They may cause confusion among consumers. B、They may lead to an increase in vegetarian choices. C、They might result in people consuming more red meat. D、They could make a food item seem healthier than it is.
  • 6、Viktor Frankl, the author of Man's Search for Meaning, once wrote, "Everything can be taken from a person but one thing: the last of human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances." Frankl was right. Attitude is a choice. You could be faced with a thousand problems, many or most over which you have absolutely no control. However, there is always one thing you are in complete and absolute control of and that is your own attitude.

To be honest, it wasn't until I was in my late 20s that I finally understood its full impact. All through my teens and into my early adult life, I can't tell you the number of times that I heard, "Bob, if you'd just change your attitude, you would do a lot better." At that time, I didn't know what attitude was, let alone know how to change it!

Attitude and results are inseparable. They follow one another as night follows day. One is the cause, while the other, the result. There is a term we use to distinguish this "cause and effect" relationship, which is called the Law of Cause and Effect. Simply stated, if you think in negative terms, you will get negative results; if you think in positive terms, you will achieve positive results. Some people always see wrong things in the world. These individuals are quick to blame circumstances or other people for their problems, rather than accepting responsibility for their life and their attitude. Thus, it would appear as if they were born with bad luck and it has followed them around their whole life. However, there are others who are forever winning and living the good life. They are the real movers and shakers who make things happen. They seem to go from one major accomplishment to another. They're in control of their life. Their wins are a matter of choice.

You can experience that kind of life as well, you only need to decide. Dorothea Brande once said, "Act as if it were impossible to fail," and I challenge you to do so. By simply becoming aware that you can choose your thoughts each and every day, you will change your entire outlook. You have the power to choose an abundant life no matter what your circumstances are. Don't wait to experience all the wonderful things the universe has in store for you. Start today by working on your attitude and welcome the abundant life that you are meant to lead.

(1)、Why does the writer use the example of himself in Paragraph 2?
A、To prove attitude changes on its own. B、To show attitude is important to the old. C、To prove the author himself was very stubborn. D、To show that understanding one's attitude takes time.
(2)、What can we learn from the Law of Cause and Effect?
A、Luck and chance also play an incredibly important role in the results we get. B、Our attitude plays an important role in determining the outcomes we experience. C、Blaming external circumstances can actually bring benefits to our mental health. D、Negative attitudes may occasionally bring positive results due to external factors.
(3)、What is the writer's attitude towards those who believe in the power of positive mindsets (心态)?
    A、Supportive. B、Objective. C、Doubtful. D、Negative.
  • 7、Ryder was born with a physical disability and has never been able to walk. He started using a wheelchair when he was two years old. When he turned five, he started attending elementary school in June 2019, and every day had to be pushed to the end of the road to wait for his school bus by his parents, Tim and Nicaea. If he was running late for the bus, he had to wait for up to 15 minutes out whatever the weather was.

In September, Ryder's father, Tim, put up a patio (露台) umbrella at the end of his driveway to provide some shelter. However, with the wind and rain here in New England, it didn't help much and Ryder still got wet and cold. Desperately, Tim who runs an electronics company, placed a post on Facebook, turning to his community to see if anyone could have an old bus hut (棚) which helps to protect Ryder from the bad weather.

After knowing about Ryder's problem, three local students in Bradford, Rhode Island, decided to build a new bus hut for Ryder during their construction lessons, worrying that snow would be falling soon and Ryder would have a rough time. They worked hard on the project for several weeks, learning new skills through YouTube to create the structure. About $300 worth of wood was donated and the rest of the materials were purchased by Tim for $600. The hut was so huge that it could accommodate both Ryder and one of his parents or a nurse comfortably, and was finally delivered to their home six weeks later on November 2.

"We were shocked. It was much bigger than we expected. Ryder loved it. He did like to go out in it every day before school," Tim said. The family sent a photo of Ryder in the bus shelter and thanked the teens for their hard work. This project brought his community together, showing that there is kindness in this world.

A、He suffered a lot on his way to school. B、He was born in 2013 with a physical disability. C、He longed for a new umbrella to get some shelter. D、He was driven to school by his parents Tim and Nicaea.

A、They were hired by Tim to complete the project. B、They built the hut as part of a school competition. C、They were motivated by a desire to help him out. D、They intended to put their previous skills into practice.
(3)、What does the underlined word "accommodate" in paragraph 3 mean?
A、Provide space for. B、Be tolerant to. C、Provide home for. D、Be beneficial to.

Yesterday I read a wonderful book called The Magic Paintbrush (《神奇画笔》). A famous children's writer wrote it, and I enjoyed it very much.

The story is about a kind boy named Tim. One day, he finds a magic paintbrush. Everything he draws with it becomes real (变成真的)! He draws food for hungry people and clothes for poor children. His magic paintbrush helps many people. However, a bad man wants the paintbrush, too. Tim has toprotect it.

I like this book very much because the story is fun and full of adventures. It teaches us to be kind and helpful. Tim is a good example because he always thinks about others. The book also has colorful pictures and they make the story more interesting.

  • 20、

Our house was noisier since my stepsister and stepmother moved in — Jen and Mum. I called her Mum, but the word felt1 — I still missed my own mother, who passed away long ago. So much had changed.

"Would you take Jen skating?" Dad gently pushed her forward.

"I guess." I sighed, remembering2 my dad taught me to build a snowman on Thanksgiving—step by step, with so much care.

"Thanks. We'll make that snowman later," he3.

"Here!" Mum offered some cookies as we took our skates. "No, thanks," I turned without looking at her. I still couldn't help feeling it was4 who changed everything.

Out in the street, it was freezing. Jen and I just walked5. It was so quiet that I had to say something, "Did you often go skating?"

Jen6 her head. "Not really. Mum and I always visited lovely turkeys on a farm."

"No turkey farms here," I replied. "Too cold."

    Jen sighed, looking at me7.

Until then I realised that I never cared how8 Jen was. She not only had a new stepbrother and a stepfather, but a new town and home. She had more9 than me.

Suddenly, I didn't feel sorry for myself10 I got something more important to do—thinking of some way to help Jen.

Soon Jen and I were back in our yard, playing with snow. We made a small snowball and topped it11 a bigger one as the head and the body of a snow turkey.

Then Jen built a fan behind it, making a perfect tail.

Our parents came out. Jen ran to them, laughing, "Can you tell what it is?"

"Certainly," smiled Mum. "It's the biggest snow turkey I've seen."

Mum came up. "Thanks for12 Jen." She tied a scarf around me. Something warm touched me and I began understanding how much she cared about13 in our new family.

Our neighbours stopped by, "Did you make that yourselves?"
