Britons are well known for the amount (量) of tea that they drink. Each person in the UK drinks around 1.9 kg of tea every year. That's around 876 cups of tea. Tea is drunk by all sections of society. But tea is not native to Britain. Most tea is grown in India and China. So, how did it become an important part of British culture? 

Tea arrived in London in the 1600s. At this time, Britons were exploring the world and came across the drink in China. It was not long before green tea was available in Britain to buy. 

At the beginning of the 1700s, the amount of tea arriving in Britain increased gradually. Black tea arrived at this time. At first, people drank this tea exactly as it was drunk in China. They soon discovered that it mixed really well with a little milk and sugar, giving the drink a special British characteristic (特色). 

In the 1800s, tea was still a product enjoyed only by rich people. At this time, they began to have afternoon tea. People drink tea with a snack around 4 p. m. to avoid feeling hungry between lunch and dinner. In the late 1800s, the price of tea decreased heavily as more tea began to arrive on ships. It was no longer a drink just for rich people. Tearooms and shops where you could buy and drink tea started to appear across the country. People enjoyed drinking tea and socializing (社交) in these places. At the start of the 20th century, Britons began to make tea in their homes whenever they felt like it.

Imagine that you are traveling far north. Where will you go? You might go to a place that is covered with snow and ice. It is the Arctic (北极)—the northernmost part of Earth. The Arctic is home to some animals like polar bears (北极熊), seals (海豹) and arctic foxes. However, environmental problems in the Arctic are becoming worse.

Climate change is heating the Arctic faster than anywhere else on Earth. As worldwide temperatures rise, sea ice is shrinking (缩减) by 14% every ten years. This is a disaster for polar bears. Polar bears mainly eat seals. They always look for seals on floating sea ice. If there isn't any sea ice around, the bears have to stay on land, where there is no food for them. They need to burn their body fat during this time until they can find food. With less ice, polar bears have to swim or walk much farther to find food, which requires a lot of energy.

Another serious problem is pollution. Harmful chemicals (化学物质) are from factories, farms and cities in other parts of the world. They are carried to the Arctic by air, water and even animals. These chemicals are dangerous for Arctic animals. For example, they can cause fewer animals to be born, and increase the risk of disease. This shows how human activities far away can harm even the farthest place on Earth.

Taking care of the Arctic means taking care of our planet because the Arctic plays a key role in Earth's climate. So, the time to change is now—before it's too late.

Young Helpers in Shaoyang: Students Join in Rice-planting for Farmers

In April, hundreds of middle school students from Shaoyang took part in an exciting and meaningful activity—helping farmers with rice-planting. The activity was organized to let students understand the value of food and the hard work of farmers.

When the students arrived at the farmland (农田), they were welcomed by the farmers with warm smiles. The farmers first showed them how to plant rice seedlings (插秧) correctly. They taught the students to hold the seedlings in the right way and plant them evenly in the paddy (水田) fields. The students listened carefully and then rolled up their sleeves and trousers, ready to get their hands dirty.

At first, many students found it difficult to keep their balance in the soft mud, and some even fell down. But they didn't give up. With the help of the farmers and their classmates, they gradually got the hang of it. They worked in groups, some were responsible for carrying the seedlings, and others planted them in the fields. Everyone was busy, and the sound of laughter and the chatter of students filled the air.

After a whole day's hard work, the empty paddy fields were covered with green seedlings, standing neatly in the water. The students were tired but happy. They realized that every grain of rice was the result of the farmers' hard work, and they promised to cherish food in the future.

The local government praised this activity, saying that it not only helped the farmers during the busy farming season but also educated the students in a practical way. The schools also said they would organize more such activities to let students learn from real life experiences.

Note-taking is a skill that can help you do well in all your schoolwork. It can make you confident when you are studying. But , most students don't know how to take notes.

Write down key facts.If your teacher writes notes on the blackboard, that's great. You can copy them or write down the most important facts of all in class. Different teachers do things differently. For example, some teachers may focus on (关注) lots of dates and facts in class, but they only write the important parts on the blackboard. Other teachers may not write anything down. But they may say something  again and again.

Compare. Comparing your notes with your  can be good for your learning. It can also help you and your classmates correct some mistakes.

Organize. Note-taking also needs organization. Keep notes for each subject in  notebook so that you can find everything easily when a test comes. Good note-taking takes time. If you decide to recopy your notes every evening, you'll surely have less time to watch TV. But you'll  time in the coming test.

On April 19, 2025, the world's first humanoid robot half-marathon (人形机器人半程马拉松) attracted great attention.

A total of 20 humanoid robots entered the race. These robots  (develop) by different teams in China and showed different levels of abilities. Before the race started, engineers checked every part of the robots  (careful) to make sure that they were in good condition. They fixed the robots' joints (关节), updated programs and improved  (they) power systems.

However, the race turned out to be a huge challenge for the robots. Right from the start, some robots faced problems like dead  (battery) and broken parts. Only six robots managed  (complete) the race. Tiangong Ultra finished the half-marathon in 2 hours and 40 minutes, far ahead of the race's  (two) winner.

 there were difficulties, this humanoid robot half-marathon is still a significant step forward in robotic engineering. It also makes us think about  relationship between humans and robots. As robots become  (powerful) than before, how will they fit into our lives? Maybe  the future, we will see robots help us in more areas, from daily chores to difficult jobs.

Every year, students do things to help them relax before big exams. 

In the UK, there are many fun traditions before exams. People may see "wishing trees" with coins hammered (钉入) into the skin of the trees.  For example, boys may avoid eating chicken because the expression "being a chicken" means "being scared" in English.

 In South Korea, parents give their kids sticky rice balls before exams. This is because the word "stick" sounds like "pass" in their language. People believe that eating them helps students pass their exams successfully.

In the US, students have different habits before exams. Some students use a special pen that they save for the most important moment. The pen must be a gift from someone who loves them.  Others do simple things, like doing exercises that they think may bring them luck.

By doing these things, students can take a short break from all the pressure and worries.  After all, what leads to good grades is not luck, but years of practice and training.

Slides are simple but always fun. All you need to do is climb up to the top and slide down. But did you know that there is science behind this simple playground equipment (设备)?

Food waste is a growing global problem. Every year, millions of tons of food are thrown away, yet many people still suffer from hunger. Reducing food waste is not only good for the environment but also helps solve world hunger.

People often buy more food than they need, especially in wealthier countries. Supermarkets throw away fruits and vegetables that don't look "perfect". Restaurants serve large portions, and food that isn't finished is thrown away. In poorer regions, food is sometimes wasted due to poor storage conditions and transportation issues.

When we waste food, we also waste the resources used to produce it. Agriculture requires a lot of water, land, and energy. If food goes uneaten, these resources are used for nothing. In addition, food that rots in landfills produces methane gas, which contributes to climate change. According to scientists, if food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world!

We can all take action to reduce food waste. At home, we should buy only what we need and store food properly. Restaurants can offer smaller portions, and supermarkets can sell "ugly" produce at lower prices. Additionally, food that can no longer be sold should be donated to food banks to help those in need.

If everyone makes small changes, we can make a big difference. Fighting food waste is a simple way to protect the environment and ensure everyone has enough to eat.
