It was a rainy and windy October afternoon. Garth stood outside his house with a wide smile. This was the1 weather for testing his new invention— Umbrella Hat. He could hardly wait to see whether it could keep the rain off. He 2 placed the hat on his head. Then he started walking purposely along the 3 . It worked!

Garth was very 14 . Gadgets4Uwas one of his favourite places and the thought of having his invention showed in that wonderful place was too exciting for words. He suddenly felt much better. And he could already feel lots of 15 ideas coming out, waiting to spring into life! He couldn't wait to take part in the competition. 

A science project can be a job or a fun hobby. But doing research can also be a chance to help others and make the world a better place. Here's an interview with two teen scientists who took part in this year's science competition, Sally and Allen. 

◆ Ca n you introduce your project?

Sally: The machine is powered by the sun's energy. It can not only find litter but also put the litter into different groups. 

Allen: I developed an app to recommend(推荐)songs. It records someone's heart rate while listening to music. The information is then used to recommend other music that can help the person relax.

Sally: When I volunteered at our local litter clean-up, I saw how much litter pollution there was, and I knew that I had to solve this problem. 

Allen: When people are listening to my music, they all have different feelings. So that's where I got the idea to start this project. 

What was your favourite part of this project?

Sally: Building the robot. I have never had any experience in robotics before, so it was a completely new experience. 

Allen: My favourite part was finding out proper music. 

Any advice for science project beginners? F

Sally: Follow the scientific rules. It might seem difficult at times, but if you stick to this and change just one variable(变量) at a time, you' ll finally make it. 

Allen: Everyone's worried,  "Oh no, what if I mess this up? " In fact, making mistakes is part of learning.

On his way home, Yang Dong saved a falling girl. People around sent them to the hospital. Luckily, the girl was not hurt seriously. But Yang's arm (问题) was really serious.

In my opinion, Mr Sun is a true hero. Since2006, he has won many swimming competitions, including 14 gold  . He is simply a legend! It's amazing that Mr Sun chose Soochow University rather than study abroad. To complete his master's(硕士)degree, he had to work hard once  . Of course, he made it. I'm sure he another victory in his future life because he has a strong will. Whatever he does, he never . 

Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha won theMixed Doubles Championship at the ParisOlympics. 

On July 30th, 2024, the table tennis mixed doubles final of the Paris Olympics began with great excitement. Wang Chuqin and SunYingsha, known as the" Shatou" Pair, faced the dark horse pair from North Korea, Lee Jeong-sik and Kim Geum-yeong.  Lee' s forehand attack was sharp(进攻迅猛) and Kim's backhand skills were also special, which was a big challenge(挑战)for the" Shatou" Pair.  Wang Chuqin's backhand flick(甩腕击球) was very excellent, and Sun Yingsha' s advantages in the first three strokes(击球) were clear. 

The scores of both sides rose in turns and the game was very close. At the critical(关键的)moment, the" Shatou" Pair, with the deep understanding through long-term training, excellent technical skills and strong psychological quality, continued to play and fight. Finally, with the scores of 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8, they won 4:2 and won the gold medal. 

 It fully showed the fighting spirit and excellent skills of the" Shatou" Pair, and also won honour for the Chinese table tennis team at this Olympics. Their excellent performance makes Chinese people proud.

①Wang Zhenyi was not only a famous scientist but also a very strong and clever woman. She was well-known for her contributions in astronomy(天文学), mathematics, and poetry(诗歌) in the Qing Dynasty.

In the final of the men's 100m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chinese athlete Pan Zhanle achieved an unbelievable time of 46. 40seconds, breaking the world record. He (successful) won the gold medal. This was the (nine) gold medal for the Chinese delegation(代表团) at this Olympics. It's also the first time that a Chinese athlete has won  Olympic championship in the men's 100m freestyle event.

Derek Redmond was an excellent British athlete(运动员). He moved the world to tears at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. 

On that day, Redmond was taking part in the men's 400m running race. Everything went well at first.  And then he fell to the ground in pain. It was clear that he was seriously hurt, But rather than allowing himself to be sent to the hospital, what Redmond did next surprised the world. 

Redmond refused to let his pain stop him. So he tried to get back up and finish the race.  He held Redmond up and helped him finish the race.

Martin Strel is a swimmer, best known for swimming in big rivers. Martin holds GuinnessWorld Records for swimming the Danube River, the Mississippi River, the Yangtze River and the Amazon River. 

Of all his achievements(成就), the greatest is his Amazon River swim: The Amazon River is known as the most dangerous river with the largest river basin(流域) in the world. Many swimmers failed to swim it. Martin decided to make history and show the world that people could achieve their dreams through hard work and perseverance(毅力). 

On April 7th, 2007, Martin completed his Amazon River swim all the way. He spent 66days swimming 3, 274 miles in total. His hard work and perseverance at last bore____fruit. He became a big shot as well as a worldwide hero.

Have you read The Diary of a Wimpy Kid? It may be one of (famous)diaries in the world. It tells the story of Greg Heffley, a middle school student. Greg gets  diary from his mother. In it, he writes his school life.
