Do you like the lotus(莲)? The lotus is one of  most amazing water plants. It's well-known for (it) large, round leaves and beautiful flowers. 

The lotus plants are very strong and can live for a very long time. They can't grow very tall,  their leaves and flowers can spread across the water and cover a large area. This makes them perfect for (decorate)lakes. 

The lotus flowers are very beautiful. They come in many colours like pink, white, and even yellow. The flowers need at least six hours sunlight each day. Every morning, these lovely flowers open up to greet the sun, and then they slowly close in the afternoon. They can remain fresh and beautiful for several days.

These moves show that today's zoos are working hard to help, support, and respect our planet's amazing wildlife. Famous biologist Jane Goodall says that the best place for animals is in their natural home. But she adds that zoos, if designed well, can help protect the lives of wild animals. 

Our planet looks like a big round ball. But it's not. "The Earth is not round, "said Dr. Gladys West. "And we had to figure out the shape. " As a mathematician, West worked hard to study the shape of the Earth. Her work changed history. She helped create GPS. That's the technology we use in phones, cars and ships. Many people call West the"Founding Mother of GPS". 

West was born in Virginia in 

1930. She grew up working on a farm. Her talent for learning offered her another path. West finished first in her high school. Then she studied maths at Virginia State University. 

After university, West spent several years teaching maths and science at schools in Virginia. Later, she worked as a mathematician for the U. S. Navy. In the 1950s,few women — especially black women — held such jobs,but West succeeded.

Scientists like Dr Sarah Stamps at Virginia Tech University still use West's work. "My research depends on her ideas, " said Stamps. "That's why she is a hero of mine. "

West was famous for her ability to solve difficult maths problems by hand. "She did complex calculations quickly, " Stamps said. "She herself was the computer. "

In 1978, West became the project manager of the Seasat satellite. That satellite studied the oceans from space. She later developed a program. That let people make a model of the Earth's exact shape. As a result, the GPS system became very accurate(精确的). 

Even after retiring in 1998, West went on learning. In 2018, West was inducted(正式入选) into the U. S. Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame. She is the only black woman honoured in that way. 

In my sixth grade, I attended a summer camp. My parents had never sent a child to camp before, so they thought that there would be no need for any cash(现金). However, on the third day of camping, a small gift shop opened at the campsite. I went in with several other campers and looked around. When I saw the beautiful things on the shelves, I reached into my pocket but found nothing. So I walked out.

During China's May Day holiday this year, Jiang Xiaojuan and her husband took a special trip from Urumqi to Xiamen. They flew about 3,500 kilometres by plane, not just for fun but to enjoy their favourite sport—badminton. There are many great places to play badminton in Xiamen. After they arrived, they joined a group and played three matches.

From April 27 to May 4, Xiamen held the 2025 Sudirman Cup. It was a big badminton event (赛事). "Winning the final means so much to us fans," Jiang said outside the stadium (体育场) shortly after cheering for China's win in the final. For her, mixing (结合) sports with travel is a perfect way to relax. It's good for both the body and the mind.

The city also added other interesting activities outside the sports fields. They made the tourists' travel experiences more enjoyable.

As more and more young people live a healthy life, Chinese cities are using sports events to attract (吸引) more visitors. It's also a great way to share their culture.

For example, at Jilin's Chagan Lake, two exciting events happened at the same time: a 10-km marathon (马拉松) and a kite festival. When runners enjoyed their race, they could also see villages full of local culture. This let them learn more about the place.

Do you like washing the dishes? It's a daily chore for every family in China. A study shows that it can take up to an hour and a half to wash the dishes, clean pots and tidy up the kitchen. Many people think this chore is boring and tiring. Then a China-made dishwasher is the perfect answer to free up time and bring happiness.

"I bought a dishwasher when I decorated my new home. The dishes are clean after washing, and it saves time for me to do other things," said Wu Peng, an office worker from Guangzhou.

Dishwashers went into our lives in the late 1980s. At that time, they were too expensive for most people, so only some rich families used them. However, in 2015, a Chinese company created the world's first sink dishwasher (水槽洗碗机). This helped the market grow and made dishwashers more common among Chinese families.

In 2023, the dishwashers made in China sold more than the dishwashers from other countries for the first time. In that year, China sold about 1.94 million (百万) dishwashers in China and about 5.8 million dishwashers in other countries. Chinese dishwashers can be so successful because they can clean dishes better and save energy. "The dishwashers are smart and we just need to start them through a button (按钮). And washing the dishes is not boring at all. All my family are happy to do that," a woman from Chengdu said.

With more and more people around the world looking for a comfortable life, dishwashers can be a great help. As technology keeps improving, the need for dishwashers in China is expected to keep growing. In the future, there may be a dishwasher in every family.

Kids should help with chores at home. If yours don't like doing housework, you can follow the ways to make cleaning fun!

Make it a game. Give them the choices of cleaning together or cleaning alone (独自) and give them a place to work on, like their bedroom or playroom. If the work is too hard, they might give up easily.

Another way to make children feel good about cleaning is to let them decorate their room in their own way. They may clean up by themselves if they know the place well. This will help encourage them to take care of their things.

Prepare a special reward (奖赏). It's important to reward your kids' hard work with a special treat. Decide what the reward will be before they start cleaning. You can also make a goal poster to fill in. Cleaning isn't always fun, but celebrating it should be!

In March this year, 27 international students went on a three-day trip to Huangshan, Anhui. On the first day, the group went to Hongcun. The ancient village is famous as the "village in a Chinese painting". That's because its is amazing. The fantastic old buildings with white walls are like from the past.

The students found an ancestral hall (宗祠) in the village. It showed how important family was to Chinese people. They also went to a(n) school, and they found people really cared about studying in the past.

The next day, the students visited an ink (墨) factory. They were never there. They learned how people made ink and inkstones. Nothing came—every step needed skills and patience (耐心). And the workers explained the ways carefully. The students were that Chinese culture and art were so interesting. In the afternoon, they got together in an old town. There they listened to stories about ancient people.

On the last day, they went to Huangshan University to learn about Chinese tea culture. They learned how to make tea and everyone tried it. It was really full of. After that, they learned to cook a famous fish dish. The fish a little strange, but it tasted great.

The trip didn't come to an end until it got dark. It was a fun and journey. It helped the students learn about Chinese history, culture and life today.

Many people keep pets in their homes and see them as their family members. Dogs and cats are probably the most common pets. A report shows that among pet owners (主人), 27% keep dogs; 12% keep cats; 17% keep both of them. What happens when dogs and cats live in the same house?

There is a study of 87 pet owners. All of them keep both dogs and cats. The results of the study are quite interesting. Most of the owners' dogs and cats get on well (相处融洽) together. Cats often spend time quietly and stay away from dogs. However, dogs often try to show friendly acts.

Only 4% of the owners say their pets run after or fight with each other. This happens mainly because of food. Cats are more tolerant, and 37% of them even let dogs eat from their food plates. 6% of cats will guard (保卫) their food, while 7% will make angry sounds when dogs come near, and 4% will drive dogs away. However, only 23% of dogs share their food with cats. 18% will drive cats away and 12% will make loud sounds when cats try to eat their food.

The dog and the cat also act differently when they stay with their owner. The cat usually takes no notice of the owner and keeps to itself, while the dog often gets close to the owner, hoping the owner can notice it. To get more love and care from the owner, the dog may even try to drive the cat away.

Although dogs and cats might not become best friends, these two different animals can still find ways to share the same home peacefully.

Tianzhu Mountain in China is famous for its high cliffs (悬崖) and amazing sights. But keeping this mountain clean is not easy. Tourists throw rubbish on the cliffs. Every day, a group of workers pick up the rubbish. They are famous as the "cliffside cleaners".

Tu Yousheng is one of them. He started to work here over 20 years ago. Every morning, he uses safety ropes, takes a rubbish bag, and climbs down the cliffs. The wind is strong and the rocks are huge, but he carefully picks up every piece of rubbish. Sometimes, rubbish gets caught between rocks. He has to work hard to pull it out.

Tu grew up near Tianzhu Mountain. He loves it like his home. "This job is ________, but someone has to do it," he says. Over 20 years, Tu has climbed 2,800 km—as far as from Beijing to Urumqi! His team works in hot summers and cold winters but never stops.

Besides (除了) cleaning, Tu also teaches tourists about taking care of nature. When he sees tourists litter, he never shouts at them. Instead, he kindly asks them to stop and explains why it is important to keep nature clean. Many visitors listen to him and even offer (主动) to help clean up.

Thanks to these cleaners, Tianzhu Mountain stays beautiful. Their hard work reminds us to care for nature. Next time you travel somewhere, remember not to drop litter.
