Scientists have known for years that people who exercise can live longer than those who do not.Some people might think that walking is not helpful enough to offer any health benefits(好处).

They may say that playing sports or running hard would be much better because they burn more energy.

When you stop and think about it, however, walking is one of the things that almost anyone can do at any time. Unlike many sports, you can enjoy doing it alone and you don't need any special equipment(装备). 

One of the best things about walking is that it can strengthen your heart. It will make blood move faster and give your circulatory system(循环系统) a workout. This also helps to manage blood pressure. As a result, you can lower the risk of having a stroke(中风) by up to 27%.

Even a short 30-minute walk at 3 kilometres per hour can burn off 75 calories for a person who weighs 60 kilograms. A daily walking routine can be a good part of a weight loss plan. To lose weight, a walking routine also seems easier to keep than other exercise.

Finally, walking can make you a much happier person! Walking causes some helpful materials in the brain. Walking is an excellent way to make people feel less stressful and angry.

Thirteen-year-old Cindy had been bullied（欺凌）at school for about two years. Her bag, keys and mobile phone had been stolen. She had also been knocked off her bicycle, kicked and punched（以拳重击）.

Cindy tried to fight back, but it always seemed to be her, not the bullies, who got into trouble. She became so afraid of going to school that she started to be absent from her classes.

Cindy's story is not uncommon, but help is always there. All schools in the UK now have to follow strict bullying polices（政策）. There are many charities and organizations giving support to young people, such as Bullying UK and Childline. So remember one very important piece of advice: If you are being bullied, don't put up with it—tell someone.

Astronomy（天文学）is the oldest science known to men. Thousands of years ago, men looked at the stars and wondered about the heavens（苍穹）.

The Greeks studied astronomy over 2, 000 years ago. They could see the size, color and brightness of a star. They could see its place in the sky. They watched the stars move as the seasons changed. But the Greeks had no tools to help them study the heavens. Each new tool added to the field of astronomy helped men reach out into space. Until there were telescopes, men did not know much about the moon. They did not know that the planet called Saturn（土星）had rings around it. Their sight was so limited that they could not see all the planets. In the early 1700s people thought there were only six planets. Pluto（冥王星）, the last of the nine plane nets to be discovered was not seen until 1930.

Before the spectroscopes（分光镜）, men didn't know what kind of gas was in the sun or other stars. Without radio telescopes（射电望远镜）, we did not know that radio noise came far from space. 

Today, astronomy is a growing science. We have learned more in the past fifty years than in the whole history of astronomy.

According to a latest report, a few schools in China are using a kind of very special uniform to watch their students' daily life and stop them from playing truant (旷课).

Such uniforms have tracking chips (追踪芯片) in them which can record the time and date a student enters the school and a short video parents can see through a mobile app.

Once a student doesn't have class without asking for leave, an alarm will be caused to tell both teachers and parents. And a voice alarm will go off as long as a student leaves school without being allowed. A GPS system also follows a student's movements once he has left the school.

Eleven schools in Guizhou have used the uniforms which are developed by Guizhou Guanyu Technology. But the company's project manager said the school wouldn't use the tracking system during out-of-school hours. The project manager said that fewer and fewer students had been absent since the uniforms were used in some schools.

However, the uniforms have been criticized (批评) on social media. "If you were a child, would you like to be watched 24 hours a day?" one Weibo user asked. "Don't children have human rights and privacy?" added another user.

A headmaster in Guizhou said that although teachers were able to track students at all times, they did not use this technology often.

"We choose not to check the position of students after school, but when the students are missing and playing truant, the uniforms help to find out where they are," the headmaster said.

Free time is a good chance for teenagers to have fun. What about free time with parents around? Some teenagers want free play time without their parents' supervision (监管) while parents and experts may think differently.

Lin Tao, a middle school student, thinks teenagers should be free to play. "Last time I played with my parents around. I was nervous and just couldn't enjoy myself," Lin says. "And my friend Chen Xiaoxin has similar experiences. Once, he went out to play with his classmates. Everyone felt uncomfortable under his mother's supervision."

Wang Min, a mother of a 14-year-old boy, thinks playtime needs supervision. She explains, "People usually say I like to control my kid, but that's not true. I am just worried that he will get into trouble. Some guys may have a bad influence on him and some games may mislead (误导) him. He might even get indulged in the games and can't get back to real life."

Mr Ma, a doctor of social studies, says it's understandable for teenagers to wish for freedom. Free play helps them to be independent. Parents can give them more space. They don't have to supervise them all the time. However, teenagers should find out the exact details (细节) about the activities before playtime. Then they can communicate with their parents and decide together whether they can go out to play alone.

Last week, I talked with a mother of a young teenager in my class. She was telling me how 1 it was for her son at school, because he was always in an old school uniform that didn't fit him. Since her husband and she both 2 their jobs, they couldn't afford(买得起)a new one. She told me that she was slowly trying to buy a(n) 3 shirt, then trousers, then shoes.

Do you know when restaurants were invented? The first restaurants were invented thousands of years ago. However, they were very different from restaurants today.

The first restaurants were in ancient Greece and ancient Rome. These restaurants served food in large stone bowls and people didn't order food from a menu. Everyone used to share the food from big bowls. Scientists believed that these places were very popular because most homes in ancient Greece and Rome did not have kitchens. Also, people didn't have to store food at home if they ate their meals at these restaurants.

Later, restaurants began to open in China. In the early 1100s, more than one million people lived in the city of ancient Hangzhou, China. It was a very busy city, and people had money. All of these people had to eat. Smart cooks started cooking and selling food along the Imperial Way, a very big street in the city. Unlike in ancient Greece and Rome, people in China could choose food from a menu. They didn't have to eat the same food as everyone else.

For the next several centuries, there were restaurants all over the world. People could buy food in the street or at inns—small hotels. Then in the middle of the 1700s, restaurants started opening in Paris. These restaurants were more similar to restaurants we know today. There were more options in menus, and eating in these restaurants was a more enjoyable experience. In the 19th century, this kind of restaurants began to appear all over Europe and in other parts of the world.

Now, restaurants are everywhere. You can buy different kinds of foods. You can have food sent to your door. But remember it wasn't always like that.

Yang Zhen was an honest and clean (廉洁的) government officer during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25—220) (东汉). 

One day, Yang met his old workmate Wang Mi on a trip. They had fun talking about their life experiences and good wishes to the nation. In the past, Wang's ability and political ideas were refused by the people around him. But Yang saw Wang's talent and promoted him. The chance helped Wang to be successful. Wang never forgot Yang's help and invited him to stay over for the night.

Many touching stories have been left in China about building the Great Wall. Among them, the most popular would be the one about Meng Jiangnv.

People say that when Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of Qin Dynasty, was building the Great Wall, a young man named Fan Xiliang was made to work for building the Wall even on his wedding (婚礼) day. Meng Jiangnv waited for her husband at home for five years but did not hear a word from him.

One night, Meng Jiangnv had a bad dream. She dreamed her husband kept crying, "cold, cold!" Very soon, she made some warm clothes and set off alone to look for her husband. After crossing mountains and rivers, Meng Jiangnv finally got to the construction place of the Great Wall. She got to know that her husband had died! Hearing this sad news, she sat down at the foot of the Great Wall and started crying. She cried day and night, and her crying made the wall fall. This made Qin Shi Huang very angry, and he ordered Meng Jiangnv to come to see him. When he saw the young woman, however, he was attracted (吸引) by her beauty. He asked her to marry him. Meng Jiangnv had to agree.

But how could she marry the bad man who made her husband dead? She could not. So, one day, when they went on a trip at sea, Meng Jiangnv jumped into the sea.

Su Shi, known as Su Dongpo, was a famous Chinese writer, poet and painter.

When he was young, he read a lot of books and wrote many good articles. People thought highly of him. Because of this, he became very 1 and wrote a couplet (对联) for2 .

Reading all the books on the earth.

A wise old man saw this couplet and thought, "It is 3 for Su Shi to learn how to be modest." So, one day, he came to Su Shi's house4 a book.
