⑤When we finally finished our alumni books, we were all so happy with the results. We had created something that would help us remember our time in junior high for years to come. 

⑥As we prepare to move onto high school, we know that we will always value our memories in junior high. And thanks to the alumni books, we will never forget the amazing experiences we had and the friendly people we met along the way. 

Mr Fogarty slowly looks over the rows of boys, each holding his breath(呼吸) and praying(祈祷) it's not his turn. Mr Fogarty's 1 pass over them and they can breathe again. His eyes land on me and my heart jumps.

When I graduated from college and moved to Washington D. C. in 

2017. To cure my loneliness, Imade meals at home. And I always shared food with new friends. Because my food was pretty good, everyone liked me for the recipe(食谱). Then I started my cooking blog in 2019. 

As a little girl, I sat and watched Mum cook. I spent most of my childhood in the kitchen. Since then, I have been interested in cooking. Before I could learn my mum's best dishes, I left for France to go to school in 2015. 

When studying in France, I was living alone for the first time in my life. I was crazily homesick. So I started calling my mum and asking for the recipes for my favourite dishes. My mum didn't have any recipes. She grew up in the kitchen with her mum too, and my grandma passed on her knowledge orally(口头地). So it was my turn. Instead of following strict measurements(测量), I learned to cook by tasting and feeling. 

At first, my blog was just a space for me to put what I had learned into writing. I didn't want the secret and dishes like my mum's noodles and my dad's tomato soup to disappear. I wanted to write down every piece of advice I was given in detail. These days, I experiment more. I'm not as strict with myself about making the dishes as I eat them. I just use seasonal food materials as Ilike. My followers are growing and this makes me more confident in the kitchen. 

The blog also increased my confidence at work and gave me a space to write about what I love. It has connected me to new friends online. Most importantly, it makes me realise that I can mix the tradition that I've experienced and something new.

So hot water VS cold water, which one is better?

By the 1930s, the water supplies(供水) was polluted. In order to prevent people from diseases, the government suggested drinking boiled water, because they considered it a useful way to kill off bacteria(细菌). 

People at that time always boiled water and stored it in a vacuum bottle to keep it warm for the day. Even now, you can find hot water everywhere, in schools, factories and offices across the country. While for Western countries, many people died of the plague(鼠疫). They took water quality seriously from then on, so that people can drink water directly rather than boil it. 

You may also discover that Chinese people prefer hot meals. Some parents always teach their children to drink hot soup with meals, because they think mixing cold water with hot meals is really bad for the stomach, and cold water may cause digestive(消化) problems, while hot water helps digestion. 

According to the eating habits in Western countries, they prefer "raw" food, so they also prefer their water" raw". They also like hamburgers and fried food, which are all high in calories(高热量), so they need cold drinks to cool them off. 

Drinking hot or cold water also has something to do with medicine beliefs. In traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese people consider drinking hot water increases blood circulation(循环) and washes away the coldness in one's body, and thus eases pain. However, most Westerners believe that drinking hot water may weaken your body. Drinking hot water too often will make your body unable to stand water below your body temperature. ·33·九英全(W版)You may find out that there is no answer to this question. The causes are various, so don't feel strange next time you see Westerners ask for cold water, and just show your respect. 

Last Christmas Day, my grandma on my Mum's side gave me a new scooter(滑板车) as a present. It's yellow and black and there' re some lights on the wheels. I love it so much that this year I ride my scooter to school every day. I have learned lots of new 1 on my scooter.

National parks are popular with visitors. However, a handful of visitors break national park rules, which leads to them getting hurt. And they aren't the only victims(受害者)—— The environment, animals and park infrastructure(设施) often take the biggest hit. It doesn't have to be this way! You can make national parks better if you follow the rules.

One of the greatest pleasures for me in life is going to watch a great movie at the cinema because it's a chance for me to get excited and relaxed. There's nothing better than being lost in a story unless someone decides to ruin the moment. 

Whether at a cinema or a huge theatre, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! There is an accepted way of behaving at the cinema which some people don't seem to understand. 

To start with, some people always turn_up_late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and makes a lot of noise. And what I can't stand most is people who decide to chat to their friends, sometimes not even about the movie. 

I'm not alone in this situation. Simon, a film critic(评论家) at the BBC, experienced a "new low" during a film. He says, "The woman in front of me got a mirror out, and then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!"

Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers(电影观众) should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off— the most serious offence(冒犯). 

Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the movie in the way we want to, but we mustn't forget moviegoers around us who want to enjoy the movie too. 

The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. It's your choice!

She paid no attention to us. She told us she had to go instead of staying at home, watching TV all day long. She wanted to go to a new environment and meet new people. She needed to experience something new. 

We had to send her to the airport, and of course in the next several days, my brother and I waited nervously, hoping that God could return our mother to us safely. Finally, the day came when she walked out of the airport, with her eyes shining. We felt she seemed as if she were in her thirties again. She told us it had been a wonderful success. As it turned out, she had hardly spent any time alone after asking a taxi driver to show her around the country for some days. He took her to all kinds of places— the markets, churches and restaurants. He introduced her to a blanket(毛毯) seller—a lovely man and she bought some blankets. The seller took her address and promised to mail the blankets home. The seller and my mother clearly built a friendship and she told him to drop by if he were ever in Canada. My mother laughed happily when she told this story. However, we thought she was cheated. 

To our great surprise, her blankets did arrive some weeks later, along with a lovely note from the seller Leonardo. To our even greater surprise, the following year Leonardo himself arrived, who was a handsome young man. My mother was busy showing him around those days and they did build a stronger friendship. The mouths of my brother and I fell open in surprise. 

Her character of independence shows she totally understands that life is to be lived. It reminded me of the line from the movie The Shawshank Redemption(《肖申克的救赎》), "Get busy living or get busy dying. "

China has changed rapidly over the past 76years. We asked some students to share their feelings about the rapid changes and development of China. Here are two students' answers online. 

Think about what is happening in many families— Kids come home, throw away their schoolbags, jump onto the sofa and get lost in the world of the small screen. Kids lose themselves in screens and games. Now the alarm  (铃) start ringing. It's  (必要的)for parents to shape the future for their children. On January 1st, the Law on Family Education Promotion came into effect. Parents are (鼓励) to educate their children properly. 

The law bans(禁止) parents,  (尤其) those with primary or  (教育中等的) school students, from putting too much pressure on their children by carefully organising their children's time to study, rest. play and exercise, such as swimming in a (游泳池). The law also says that parents should not discriminate(区别对待)against the youth according to their gender or physical condition. 

The law also  (提及) children of migrant workers in rural areas. Their parents are always  (缺席的). It asks governments to keep a close eye on such families, and help the parents get  (当地的) jobs so that they can look after their children. Those children may get good health in both physical and mental with their parents' care, and then they can live a happy and (健康的) life. 

Now, with the instructions of the new law, family education is no longer just a family matter. The law says that society should provide support and services for family education.

It is very exciting that you are coming to our school so soon. 1 you arrive, let me introduce to you what our school life is like.

Best Tourism Villages

Four villages in China have been named "Best Tourism Villages 2023" by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). Let's get to know them together. 

With a long history, Huangling Village is in the northeast of Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It is a typical mountain village with buildings in a fan shape centred around a water source. Its buildings are classic Hui-style. 

Once known as a poor village, Xiajiang Village in Zhejiang Province has developed a green way in recent years. Today, the village sits among clear waters with green mountains around, And more and more people come to visit this 800-year-old village. 

Zhagana Village in Gansu Province is between 3, 000 and 3, 300 metres above sea level. "Zhagana" means" stone box" in the language of Zang, Zhagana is a complete natural "stone city", like a great palace sitting on rocky cliffs(悬崖). 

Zhujiawan Village is in the northwest of Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province, in the southern foothills of the Qinling Mountains. This mountain village has been regarded as one of the first "Most Beautiful Leisure Villages in China". With the Niubeiliang Forest Park, the village is planned to be a beautiful natural "reception hall(接待厅)" for the Qinling Mountains. 

The beginning of spring is beautiful. The winter cold starts to leave, and flowers start to come out. It is the (完美的) time to visit flower gardens like Keukenhof, which lies in the Netherlands. The area used to(提供) food for the towns around it. People raised animals and planted vegetables as well as fruit. (因为) of this, it was known as the "kitchen garden" in the 15th century. 

As time went on, different people owned the land and made changes to it. In 1641, people(成功) in building a large house and named it Keukenhof. (超过)200 years later, the garden area was rebuilt in an English style. (官员) first opened it to the public in 1950, More than 200, 000people visited the park during its first year. Now, it receives about one (百万)visitors every year. 

Keukenhof is a spring garden and is only open for eight weeks each year, usually between March and May. The best time to see the flowers(决定于) on the growing season for that year. It is also quite convenient for people to get there. You can take a (航班)to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, and then get(径直地) to the garden. As one of the largest flower gardens in the world, Keukenhof is exactly a good place for flower lovers.
