Redwood trees are sometimes called "nature's skyscrapers (摩天大厦)" because they are also the  (tall) trees in the world. Some even grow over 300 feet high. Think of it this way: if a six-foot tall man  (stand) under a redwood tree,  tree will be 50 times taller than the man! These tall trees grow near the coast of California and Oregon. 

The climate gets  (fog) and it rains a lot there. It can  [prə'vaɪd] the redwoods with water. Redwood trees can grow for hundreds of years.  fact, some live for over 2,000 years! 

Redwood trees are such wonderful trees. Their wonder is not only just for their unusual size  for their special shape. They are packed with a soft bark. The bark (树皮) is very  [θɪk] and prevents the trees from insects, diseases and fires. The bark of redwood trees is a reddish-brown color. 

Redwood trees are very important to us because the trees are so large that each one can be cut into lots of wood.  [haʊ'evɔ], the Redwood National Park passed the laws that people should protect them  (careful). People mustn't cut down trees that grow there.

The Internet is playing an important part in our lives. Many children like using the Internet to get useful knowledge and information, and to relax in their free time.  Here are some rules to make sure you are safe and have fun on the Internet.

Haley was so disappointed. She just couldn't believe it! She should have her birthday party tomorrow, but now the city will get hit by a hurricane (飓风). The party stopped and had to be put off. This terrible storm was now quickly heading towards the south of the United States—somewhere near Miami where Haley lived. The storm had winds of up to 120 miles per hour. 

Haley knew it could be very harmful. Her city experienced a number of hurricanes. So instead of preparing for her party. Haley was busy helping her mom make a full preparation (准备) for the coming hurricane. They needed new flashlights and radios, fresh water and any other food and drinks. They also had lots of medicine, warm clothes, and baby food for her brother. Haley's mom asked Haley to remind her to get some money while she was at the store. While Haley and her mom were busy at the store, Haley's dad was busy checking their boat. When be finished, he was going to return to the house and use wood to stop the wind going into their windows. 

Because Haley's grandparents live in Atlanta, Haley and her family will leave Miami and stay with them for a few days. Haley hopes they will all be able to return soon. She is also excited that she will get to visit her grandparents. After all, getting together with her family is a happy thing!

Do you often feel it's hard to move when you wake up? If so, you may be afraid. You may think something terrible happened to you. As a matter of fact, many people have this experience, too. It is called sleep paralysis. Although it sounds scary, it is normal. 

Sleep paralysis happens when a person is falling asleep or waking up. As the person falls asleep, his or her body slowly relaxes. Usually the person's mind relaxes at the same time, but sometimes the mind stays awake longer than the body. As a result, the person can be conscious (清醒的), but it's difficult to move or speak. Sleep paralysis can also happen when you wake up. Luckily, it seldom lasts for more than a few seconds. Actions and words soon return to normal. 

Some people say they may hear, see, or feel things that don't exist (存在) during sleep paralysis. At one time, people thought that ghosts came in the room and were holding them down and stopping them from moving. Science helps us understand that such visions (幻觉) are actually part of sleep paralysis. Now we know that getting too little sleep, taking some medicine and changing your sleep time can cause sleep paralysis. This condition can be scary if it happens to you, but it's just a trick that your mind is playing on your body.

Do you know that Asian Games are held every four years? Did you watch the 19th Asian Games this autumn? If so, do you still remember who won the first gold medal for the Chinese team?

On the first day of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Chinese team did very well in the Women's lightweight double souls (女子轻量双人双桨) and got the first gold medal in less than 10 minutes. 

From the 2002 Asian Games in Busan (釜山) to now, the Chinese team has been the first one to win the first gold medal in six Asian Games. This time Zou Jiaqi and Qiu Xiuping ____ the other players, finishing at 7^'06. 78". 

Zou, 22, a Hangzhou girl, got a gold medal in her hometown. Qiu, 24, is from South China's Guangdong. In 2021, they worked together. After joining hands, they won a lot of great results. In 2022, they won the second place at the World Rowing (划船运动) Cup in Belgrade. Now they will go for the Paris Olympics through the 2023 Rowing World Championships (锦标赛). 

In men's lightweight double sculls, Fan Junjie and Sun Man won another gold medal for China. Chinese players tried their best at the Asian Games.

How is the weather in your town or city now? Are you feeling winter is coming? Lidong, the Start of Winter, will arrive on November7 in 2024. 

Lidong was a big day in ancient (古代的) China. Before the day, the emperors (帝王) would take a shower and have no meat. On that day, the emperors and their officials (官员) would all dress in black and go out of the city to welcome winter. Today, to welcome the day, some people choose to have swimming games in some cold places such as Harbin in Heilongjiang Province. 

As winter comes, the weather gets colder and colder. Chinese people often eat different kinds of food to keep warm and healthy. On the day of Lidong, people in North China love eating dumplings. In South China, people love to eat chicken, duck and fish. In some places in Guangdong Province, people eat sugar cane (甘蔗). They think it is good for their teeth. In Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, people eat green onions (大葱) for good health. 

Lidong is the time to start wearing warm clothes. In ancient times, the emperors would hand out warm winter clothes to the officials. People would also remember to give "clothes" to their lost family. They would also eat delicious food to show how much they missed the lost ones.

To many Sichuanese, a hotpot can solve almost any problem. 

I was born and grew up in Sichuan. Hotpot is a(n) 1 part of my life. We usually eat hotpot at some big celebrations. 2 , after I came to the UK, I found that it was very expensive to have hotpot in town and that the local (当地的) people knew 3 about hotpot. 

So I came up with an idea. It was to invite some foreign friends to a hotpot dinner.
