  • 1、For thousands of years, people have looked up into the night sky and wondered if humans could live on other planets. While Mars is often discussed, Venus, the Earth's closest neighbor, is also an interesting planet to study.

Venus is often thought of as the Earth's twin sister because the size and composition (构成) of the two planets are similar. But Venus has some of the most unusual conditions in our solar system (太阳系).

Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system because its thick air is full of CO2. It holds heat like a blanket (毯子) and keeps the planet's surface temperature at about 465℃.The air on the planet is so thick that if you try to move your arms quickly, you will feel resistance like swimming in water.

Similarly, it is hard to overlook the high air pressure on Venus, which is about 92 times stronger than that on Earth. To experience that pressure on Earth, you have to travel more than 914 metres down into the ocean.

Even time works differently on Venus: It takes Venus about 225 Earth days to travel around the sun, and 243 Earth days to rotate (旋转) on its axis (轴). The sun rises once every 117 Earth days, meaning that you can only enjoy about two sunrises every year. What's more, the sun rises in the west and sets in the east!

So if humans try to live on Venus, we will face many challenges and it is nearly impossible with the technology we have now. This exactly reminds us that Earth remains the only known planet with conditions perfectly suitable for life. For our future, it's necessary to protect it by making less pollution and saving resources (资源). Let's take care of our beautiful blue planet—the only home for humanity together!

  • 19、Chinese traditional painting and dance are two important parts of the art world. But what about whenthey meet each other?

In 2022, a dance drama called Poetic Dance: The Journey of a legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was shown on CCTV's Spring Festival Gala. It became popular overnight.

According to CCTV, this poetic dance got the idea from the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and expressive details. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: "mountains and groupings of mountains endlessly rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling (荡漾) water."

The dance shows the Chinese traditional beauty of the painting. The dancers each had a different hairstyle, which looked like a mountain rock. The clothes that they wore were shades of green and blue, which is also poetic show of the mountains and rivers. When the dancers swayed beautifully, the audience seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. Huge mountains and rivers are coming to life! More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago.

In recent years, more and more modern shows highlight Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome, especially among young people. They show interest in Chinese culture and are proud of it.

(1)、What does the word they mean in paragraph 1?

(2)、What color is the Chinese landscape in A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains?

(3)、What does the dancers' hairstyle look like?

(4)、According to the text, how do you like this poetic dance?

    (5)、将短文中划线句子翻译成中文。

  • 20、阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

In 2050, a small cloud floats through the air in a hospital operating room. In the room a patient, suffering cancer, lies on a table. The cloud surrounds the patient,(cover) her body and filling her lungs. The cloud is not smoke or steam. It is made of millions of microscopic robots called nano-robots (纳米机器人). These tiny robots move from cell (细胞) to cell in the (patient) body, destroying the cancer cells.

Fighting cancer with nano-robots is only an idea today, scientists say that it would be possible in the future. Using nano-robots for good purposes such as fighting diseases or repairing the environment may be the solutions to many of today's problems.

However, nano-robots could be risk as well. Since nano-robots are so tiny, they will have to work in large teams of many thousands to many millions. For this reason, nano-robots will have to be programmed (build) themselves. Scientists can't build millions of nano-robots one by one.

This (able) to reproduce is making some scientists worried. What if something goes wrong in the programming? Quite a lot of crazy nano-robots would be far (bad) than any disease. Some people think that if they get out of control, nano-robots could destroy the earth.

What should (do)? Should we continue researching nano-robots or should we search for other methods? This is one of the many difficult (decide) that we have to make in the future.
