Have you ever watched the famous Disney movie Tangled《( 长发公主》), which tells the story of Princess Rapunzel with long hair?

Elsie Kennedy, 14, from Australia, loved Rapunzel very much, so she grew her hair down to her waist from childhood. However, her reason for keeping her long hair changed over time. She decided to donate it to make a wig(假发) for a child with cancer.

She got her first-ever haircut at her school, the Scon e Grammar School in 2024. She later donated her hair to Wigs 4 Kids, a program run by Kids with Cancer Foundation in Australia.

"I've never had a real haircut - my first trim(修剪) was at 7, and since then, just a small trim," Kennedy told Kids

News. "I'm excited to get a new look, but I'm also very happy that my hair will go to a good cause."

What's more, Kennedy tried to raise funds for other kids with cancer. To do that, she asked her school for help to get the money and let more students know about kids with cancer. That was the reason why she had her hair cut at the school.

Students were then encouraged to wear purple or donate some money to show support. Kennedy chose the color purple as the theme because it was Rapunzel's color. She always wears a beautiful long purple dress in the film.

Aiming to raise $14,000(about 102,000 yuan), she had reached just over $11,000 by January 2025. "To know that my fundraising will help kids and families going through a really difficult time is amazing," Kennedy told Kids News.

Shenzhen is the first city in the world where all buses run on electricity. Since 2023, all 16,000 buses in the city use electricity instead of diesel (柴油). This big change helps make the air cleaner and reduces noise. Each electric bus can cut about 50 tons of dirty air each year, which is very good for our environment.

Usually, （turn） 30 can make people feel nervous and worried. However, Bryan Tsiliacos, a man from California, doesn't feel same as others do. He decided to complete 30 acts of kindness before his （thirty） birthday. 

After his 29th birthday, Tsiliacos' anxiety began to grow, so he tried to do something to cheer （he） up. "I pulled out a piece of paper and started to write down all the things I was thankful for, " Tsiliacos said. "At that moment, I realized those wonderful things couldn't have happened to me without the support and generosity （慷慨） of others. "

Organize Yourself

Balance Activities and Studies

Go Beyond the Classroom

Some studies compared the cognitive ability of musicians and non-musicians. Their findings showed that musical training could bring small but important cognitive benefits. However, these studies had short monitoring periods （监测周期）. This made it impossible to find out if these cognitive changes remained throughout a person's lifetime. 

Judith Okely at Edinburgh University found a way to solve the problem. In 1947, the Scottish government tested the intelligence of almost every 11-year-old child in the country. In 1997, Dr Okely's team contacted 1, 091 of those children and tested their intelligence once more between 2004 and 2007. The study continues and the participants need to take a cognitive test every three years. 

In 2017, Katie Overy, also at Edinburgh University, asked the original participants about their musical experiences over the years. The participants were asked how many instruments they played and what their training was like. They were also asked to record how many years of regular practice they had had and what performance level they had reached. A total of 366 participants provided useful information and 117 mentioned that they had some degree of experience with musical instruments. 

All in all, the researchers have found that there is a close relationship between the playing of an instrument and a person's change in cognitive ability. Moreover, the longer people practise playing an instrument, the more likely they are to show a positive cognitive change over the course of their lives. The effect is small, but it remains important.

China is such a big county. Are the north and the south very different? The following are  (opinion) of some teenagers.

Some people choose their career simply because they think they'll make huge lots of money. OK, if that is what you want. However, in general people are pleased with their career when they feel they are doing something valuable for others. It doesn't have to be voluntary work.  Just don't forget, money is not everything.

For those who need some drives to stop procrastinating, the best advice might be to take action first. If you've been procrastinating on forming a habit of exercise, just put on your walking shoes. A little bit of progress will get you moving. 

Next, find something to help you remember to take action. If you want to go to bed at 10:30 pm, you might turn the lights down at 10 pm. When the lights are dim（昏暗）, you'll start going to bed. It works for most people. 

Finally, reward yourself every time you make progress. For example, after you've run 3 km, enjoy your favourite ice-cream. But be careful: it won't work the other way around.
