Some teachers try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones.

The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat on schoolwork. In addition, ChatGPT can't help with students'critical-thinking(批判性思维) at all, which is necessary for their study and even lifelong success.

Xin Nan looks like an ancient beauty that comes from somewhere hundreds of years ago. She is wearing Hanfu or Han clothing. It was traditional Chinese clothing before Qing dynasty (朝代).

Experts say we should hold a national Hanfu Day. Now there have been already Hanfu festivals all over China. Xin Nan is happy to join the festivals. Last October, she took part in Beijing Hanfu festival. And in this May, she was a judge at Chongqing's first-ever Hanfu festival.

To Xin Nan, Hanfu is more than just a style of dress, but a way of life. "I think Hanfu has a special beauty. When I am wearing it, I feel I've returned to an ancient dynasty," she says.

"Whenever I put on Hanfu, I'll have an elegant (优雅的) feeling."

People all over the world are now taking action to fight against COVID-19. But what they do may depend on their own culture and traditions.

On Feb 26, when an Italian lawmaker (议员) went into the country's Lower Chamber with a mask to prevent the novel coronavirus, he was criticized (批评) by his workmates for "causing panic (恐慌)". Articles from Western media carry headlines such as "No, you do not need face masks to prevent coronavirus." You might be surprised, as in China and other Asian countries, people have willingly put masks on during the outbreak.

Western thoughts about masks

In the West, people are taught to wear masks only when they get sick. Masks are seen as a tool to protect sick people and prevent the disease from spreading, so healthy people don't need to wear them. Therefore, during the novel coronavirus outbreak, overseas Chinese students said that they would be "stared at like a virus spreader" if they go out with a mask. According to a survey done by Global Times among some European and American people, wearing a mask in public can make them feel "worried", "shy", and "afraid of being looked at differently".

But as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow around the world, many people in the West are changing their attitudes (态度). In the US, for example, the need for masks is very high now. The US surgeon general (卫生局局长) has been asking people to avoid hoarding (囤积) masks, as they are more needed in hospitals than by the general public.

Mask culture in the East

In Asian countries like China and Japan, there has been a long tradition of mask-wearing. In

China, for example, when doctor Wu Liande invented the modern medical mask during the pneumonic plague (肺鼠疫) in 1910, the mask became a symbol of China's position as a modern, scientific nation. The 2003 SARS epidemic again led to the wide use of masks as a form of anti-viral (抗病毒的) protection in China and elsewhere in East Asia.

In Japan, wearing masks has long been seen as a manner to reassure (使安心) others when one catches a cold or flu. Some Japanese also turn masks into fashion accessories (配饰), with different colors and styles to match their clothes. Wearing masks is also a way to "hide" for young women when they don't have their makeup (化妆) on.

In more collectivist (集体主义的) cultures in Asia, wearing masks might also be a symbol of solidarity (团 结 ) during the outbreak, according to Christos Lynteris. "Mask culture in Asia creates a sense of a fate (命运) shared, common obligation (责任) and civic (公民的) duty."

People wear masks "to show that they want to stick together" in the face of danger, Lynteris wrote.

Mark and his brother Jamie rang their neighbour Mrs. gray's doorbell.

To truly understand France, you need to explore these different regions and learn about their history and culture.  You can visit famous landmarks like the Château de Versailles. You can also explore the lavender fields in Provence. These places are not only beautiful but also tell the story of France's rich history. 

Whether you are traveling alone, with family, or with friends, France has something for everyone.  Two weeks is even better if you want to explore more of the country. 

Did you know that some people in Britain live in boats instead of houses? It's too expensive to buy a house. So people choose the "floating houses". There were over 35, 000 boats on rivers in England and Wales in 2022. These boats are people's main homes.

Catherine Newman is an English teacher from South Africa. She came to Shenzhen a year ago. Shenzhen has become a very special place for her because she loves taking photos here. 

When Newman was a little girl, her father was a photographer and artist. This made her start to like photography. Since then, she has learned a lot about it.

For Newman, photography is not just a hobby. It helps her tell stories and share her experiences. When she travels, she takes pictures of whatever she likes, like beautiful scenery, nice people, or interesting activities. She prefers using natural light to create her photos. For those who want to be photographers, Newman has some advice. She says, "Be curious and respectful when you explore. Find what you like and let your photos tell stories. "

Shenzhen gives Newman a lot of inspiration (灵感). With its modern buildings, nice nature, and rich culture, it's a great place for her to take photos. 

My English teacher is Mr. Lee. He is1 special to me. He is always full of energy and has a 2 smile on his face. He seldom gets angry in class.

Zhao Xiaoyong, known as China's Van Gogh, is a painter from Dafen Village in Shenzhen. This village is known as world's art factory. " Zhao came there to learn to paint 20 years ago as a migrant-worker(外来务工人员). At first, he(copy)famous works painted by  Vincent van Gogh, such as Starry Night and Sunflowers

In 2016, Zhao traveled to Amsterdam to visit the Van Gogh Museum. He felt  (deep) moved when he saw the original( 原 作 )paintings. "I realized how much effort Van Gogh put into his art, " he said. Since then, Zhao  (create) many art works of his own. He paints scenes from his real life such as migrant-workers and busy  (street)in Shenzhen. 

Zhao's art now expresses his own ideas  the help of Van Gogh's style. He says, "Van Gogh painted his life, and now I paint  (I). "He still makes copies to make money, but he hopes (hold) an exhibition of his original works. 

 practice is important, Zhao believes that true art comes from the heart. He hopes that one day, people will not only see him as a copier but also as a  (success) artist. "I want to show the world the beauty of my life and my city, "he says. 

When learning a new language, many people depend on translation(翻译). They first think in their mother language, then turn their thoughts into English before speaking. The best way to improve it is to think directly in English. 

To speak a language well, you need to create separate spaces for each language in your brain. If you often translate between languages, your brain gets stuck in the middle. It makes your replies slower.  It allows you to prepare words and ideas quickly, without being troubled by Chinese grammar. 

Watch English movies, listen to English podcasts, and read English books. Try to think in English through the day, even when you are not speaking. For example, describe what you see around you in English or plan your day using English sentences in your head. 

If thinking in English feels difficult, start with simple sentences. For example, if you want to say" I need to buy clothes", do not make long sentences in your head.  Over time, your brain will change little by little, and your thinking will be quicker. 

Many learners are unable to speak English because they fear making mistakes.  The more you speak, the faster your English brain develops. Don't worry about grammar. Focus on expressing yourself clearly and confidently. 

How often do you go to the park? Is it part of your everyday life, or a trip that you plan? Many large city parks are far from where people live. It means they are a place for planned visits rather than everyday life. For example, only 14%of the population of Los Angeles have a park in walking distance. Also, such parks often benefit some areas much more than others. It's hardly helpful to deal with this by creating large new parks. So some cities turn small areas of land, empty parking lots or even parts of quiet streets into pocket parks. This has a major effect on the quality of life. 

Often no larger than a few tennis courts ( 场 ) and, above  all, within neighbourhoods close to where people live, these green spaces can increase community connections. They provide a place to meet neighbours, or a play area for children. Green gyms or ball game areas can give local people a space to exercise in, improving public health. Local businesses can use spaces to organize events to sell their products. A study by the University of Philadelphia, showed that crime (犯罪)was reduced in neighbourhoods with pocket parks, compared to those without. Studies report that where space is used to make pocket parks, communities feel greater ownership of their neighbourhood. 

As well as benefits for the human population, an increase in green space can benefit the local environment. Pocket parks allow wildlife to travel across the city. Tree branches and leaves spread out and cover the parks, so they can help to reduce temperatures. Trees also help to reduce air pollution. Green space can reduce flood risks, because it allows water to float away. 

Pocket parks are providing valuable relaxing places. With the rapid development of cities, pocket parks have become a cheap way to improve communities and local environments.
